Campgrounds and RV parks near Vista Santa Rosa, CA

The Coachella Valley is built around outdoor recreation. La Quinta and Indian Wells offer dozens of golf courses, including PGA West, and the BNP Paribas Open tennis tournament takes place in Indian Wells each March. The Empire Polo Club in Indio hosts the Coachella and Stagecoach music festivals in April. Hikers can reach the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument, which has trails and a visitor center south of Palm Desert. Joshua Tree National Park is roughly an hour north and offers rock scrambling, climbing, and stargazing. The Salton Sea State Recreation Area lies to the south, and the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens in Palm Desert is a strong option for families with younger children.

The Coachella Valley operates on a reversed seasonal calendar compared to most of the country. The high season runs from roughly October through April, when daytime temperatures sit in the comfortable range and snowbirds fill the private RV resorts in Indio and the surrounding cities. January and February are the coolest and busiest months, and the resorts run full social calendars during this stretch. March and April bring the area's peak demand. The BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells runs in March, and the Coachella and Stagecoach festivals follow in April, with sites near the Empire Polo Club booking out months in advance. Rates frequently rise during festival weekends. Summer is the off-season. Daytime highs regularly exceed 40°C (well over 100°F) from June through early September, and many activities shift to early morning or evening. Joshua Tree campgrounds remain open but are lightly used, and fire restrictions are typically in place through the hottest stretch of the year. Fall cools quickly, with comfortable conditions returning by late October.

Resorts in the Indio area lean upscale. Expect concrete or paved pads, 30 and 50 amp service, full hookups, gated entry, and amenity packages built around pools, spas, fitness rooms, pickleball, and clubhouse activities. Indian Waters RV Resort and Cottages, for example, offers full-hookup sites, multiple pools, lighted pickleball courts, and an active winter social program. Several properties, including Motorcoach Country Club and Outdoor Resort Indio, restrict entry to Class A motorhomes and may enforce rig age limits. Tent camping is generally not permitted at these resorts. Cell service is reliable across the valley. Inside Joshua Tree, conditions are very different: no hookups or drinking water in the campground, limited facilities, and spotty cell coverage. Bring firewood from outside the park and plan to be self-contained.
