Campgrounds and RV parks near Westmorland, CA

Westmorland sits in Imperial County, California, on the flat, irrigated floor of the Imperial Valley just south of the Salton Sea. The town is a practical base for RV travelers heading to the Sonny Bono Salton Sea National Wildlife Refuge, a Pacific Flyway stopover at the southern end of the Salton Sea, and for trips out to Slab City, Salvation Mountain, and the eastern edge of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. Most developed RV camping is clustered around El Centro, roughly 20 to 30 minutes south on Highway 86 and Interstate 8. Sunbeam Lake RV Resort, Rio Bend RV Resort Ranch, Desert Trails RV Park, and Country Life RV Park all offer full-hookup sites built for big rigs, with paved interior roads and amenities aimed at long-stay snowbirds. To the northeast, near Niland, Mojos Camp provides a small-scale option in the Slab City area. Because of its southern latitude, location in the Sonoran Desert, and elevation below sea level, the area sees some of the hottest temperatures in the nation, which shapes nearly every booking decision in the region.

Private RV resorts in the area, including Sunbeam Lake RV Resort, Rio Bend RV Resort Ranch, Desert Trails RV Park, and Country Life RV Park, are booked directly through each park by phone or website. Winter sites at the larger snowbird parks are often committed months ahead, with many sites held by returning monthly and seasonal guests, so flexibility on arrival date helps. For public land, the California State Parks system handles Salton Sea State Recreation Area reservations through ReserveCalifornia, with a booking window of six months in advance. Reservations are accepted October through May, with first-come, first-served camping June through September. Mojos Camp near Slab City takes direct bookings.
