Campgrounds and RV parks near Astatula, FL

The Harris Chain of Lakes is the main draw. Lake Harris, Little Lake Harris, Lake Eustis, Lake Dora, and Lake Griffin are all navigable by boat through a series of canals, making the area popular for bass fishing, pontoon cruising, and kayaking. Parks along the chain offer easy access to Lake Harris and connect to several other lakes, making them a solid launch point for water activities. On land, Mount Dora is just a short drive away, offering charming streets filled with art galleries and eateries. Clerbrook Golf and RV Resort and Fisherman's Cove Golf & RV Resort include on-site golf, and several parks have pools, shuffleboard, and organized activities. Day trips reach Orlando theme parks, the Ocala National Forest, and springs like Alexander Springs and Silver Glen for swimming and snorkeling in clear water. Families with kids often pair a lakeside campground stay with one or two theme-park days in Orlando to break up the driving.

Central Florida has a two-season pattern that matters more than a four-season one. The dry, mild season runs roughly November through April, with warm days, cool nights, and lower humidity. This is peak RV season across the region, and snowbird travelers fill many parks from January through March. Booking several months ahead is essential in this window. The wet season runs late May through September, with hot, humid days and near-daily afternoon thunderstorms. Average temperatures in the warmest month, August, reach a high near 91°F and a low near 76°F, and heat indices run higher. Water activities remain excellent, but outdoor plans usually shift to mornings. Atlantic hurricane season officially runs June 1 through November 30, with peak activity in August, September, and October, so travelers should monitor storm forecasts and confirm park evacuation policies. Some smaller waterfront parks operate on limited seasons. Hide-A-Way Harbor RV Park is listed as open from May 1 to October 31. Confirm operating dates directly with each park before locking in travel dates.

Most parks around Astatula are RV-focused rather than tent-focused, with paved or gravel pads, full hookups, and a mix of back-in and pull-through sites. Typical amenities include water, sewer, and 30/50-amp electric, laundry, restrooms and showers, and dump access. Sites can be tight in older resorts, so verify length and slide clearance when booking a larger rig. The landscape is flat with mature oaks, palms, and lakefront exposure. Expect mosquitoes and no-see-ums near the water at dawn and dusk, especially in the warm months, and plan for sun exposure at open sites. Alligators are present in freshwater lakes across the region, so keep pets leashed and away from shorelines. Cell coverage is generally strong across Lake County, and grocery stores, marine supply, and RV service are available in nearby Tavares, Leesburg, and Clermont.
