Camping near Black Hammock, Florida
Black Hammock is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Seminole County, Florida, on the southern shore of Lake Jesup. It sits in the Orlando metro, roughly a half hour north of downtown Orlando and a short drive from Sanford, Oviedo, and DeBary. RV travelers use it as a quiet base for exploring St. Johns River country, Central Florida springs, and the Atlantic beaches near Daytona.
The area itself is rural and preservation-focused. The Black Hammock Wilderness Area is a 700-acre joint purchase between Seminole County and the St. Johns River Water Management District, acquired to preserve significant habitat along the shores of Lake Jesup, with roughly 4.5 miles of trails through mixed hardwood swamp, sand pine scrub, and pine flatwoods. Lake Jesup is one of the largest lakes in the region and is known for a very large alligator population and heavy bird activity.
RV parks in Black Hammock proper are limited, so most travelers book nearby. Twelve Oaks RV Resort in Sanford, Christmas RV Park east of Orlando, Highbanks Marina and Camp Resort in DeBary, and Orange City RV Resort (also listed simply as Orange City) in Volusia County are the practical options within about a 30 to 40 minute drive.
Things to do near Black Hammock
The headline attraction is Lake Jesup and the wilderness area on its southern shore. The property includes a boardwalk and trail system used by equestrians, mountain bikers, hikers, and photographers, and airboat operators run wildlife tours out of the Black Hammock area.
Within a short drive, families reach Blue Spring State Park for manatee viewing in winter, Wekiwa Springs for swimming and paddling, and the Central Florida Zoo in Sanford. Kayaking down the St. Johns River from Highbanks to Blue Spring is one of the best manatee viewing options in the region.
For day trips, Orlando theme parks, Kennedy Space Center, and New Smyrna and Daytona beaches are all within roughly an hour. Historic downtown Sanford on Lake Monroe adds walkable dining and a Riverwalk along the St. Johns.

Central Florida has two very different camping seasons. Winter and early spring are peak RV months: temperatures are mild, humidity is low, and mosquitoes are manageable. Snowbird demand at Sanford and Orange City parks runs from roughly January through March, and Christmas RV Park recommends advance reservations during the winter months.
Late spring through early fall is hot, humid, and stormy. Summers are long, hot, oppressive, wet, and mostly cloudy, while winters are short, cool, and partly cloudy. Afternoon thunderstorms are near-daily from June through August, and Atlantic hurricane season officially runs June 1 through November 30, with peak activity in August and September.
Fall shoulder season, especially late October and November, is a strong window: cooler nights, lower rainfall, and manatees beginning to return to Blue Spring as river temperatures drop. Booking a month or two ahead is wise for weekends year-round.

How to book near Black Hammock
Most nearby campgrounds are privately owned and book directly. Christmas RV Park takes reservation requests through its own website and phone line and recommends advance reservations. Highbanks Marina and Camp Resort books through its office in DeBary, and Orange City RV Resort is reservable through the Sun Outdoors network.
For state parks such as Blue Spring, Wekiwa Springs, and Hontoon Island, reservations go through the Florida State Parks reservation system. Florida residents may book up to 11 months in advance, and non-residents up to 10 months in advance, with the window opening at 8 a.m. Eastern. Winter weekends at Blue Spring often fill the day the window opens.
RV travelers should confirm site length, hookup amps (30 or 50), and pet rules at booking. Several nearby parks lean heavily toward long-term or 55-plus residents, so verify short-stay availability before locking in dates.
What to expect on arrival
Sites in this corridor are typically paved or concrete pull-throughs with full hookups. Twelve Oaks RV Resort offers 30 and 50 amp service, paved streets, concrete patios, a pool, and shuffleboard. Highbanks Marina and Camp Resort is a 25-acre wooded RV park along 2,300 feet of the St. Johns River with a swimming pool, a 3,000 square foot clubhouse, two laundries, a country store with live bait and tackle, a catch-and-release pond, and a 72-slip marina with a gasoline dock.
Expect close spacing at the larger resorts and a strong long-term-resident presence, especially at Orange City and Twelve Oaks. Orange City sits near I-4 and serves well as a base for exploring Blue Spring State Park and nearby attractions.
Bring insect repellent, a surge protector, and a water pressure regulator. Cell coverage is generally strong throughout the corridor.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Black Hammock, FL
How much does an RV rental in Black Hammock, FL cost?
An RV rental in Black Hammock is more affordable than many travelers expect, with most listings ranging from about $125 to $275 per night depending on size and season. Travel trailers and pop-ups sit at the lower end, while Class A and Class C motorhomes land higher. For a cheap RV rental in Black Hammock, book mid-week trips in late summer or early fall when prices typically dip. Many hosts offer weekly discounts, and you can filter by price and Instant Book on RVezy to find the best value. Pro tip: bundling delivery with a longer stay at nearby Lake Mills Park often costs less than driving the rig yourself and paying mileage overages.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Black%20Hammock%2C%20FloridaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Black Hammock, Florida?
Good news: a regular Florida (or out-of-state) Class E driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Black Hammock. Florida does not require a commercial driver's license or special endorsement for motorhomes or travel trailers under 26,000 pounds, which covers nearly every RV on RVezy. Approved RVezy renters are generally 25 or older, and your ID is verified through the platform during checkout. International visitors should bring an International Driving Permit along with their home country license. Once you're verified, you're cleared to pick up your rig and head straight for the Black Hammock Wilderness Area trailhead.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection is included with my Black Hammock RV rental?
Every booking on RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can focus on your Black Hammock RV trip instead of the what-ifs. You choose your protection tier during checkout (not the host), and the plan helps cover physical damage to the RV during your rental. While this isn't traditional auto insurance, it provides meaningful peace of mind whether you're navigating SR-434 or parked beside Lake Jesup. Roadside help is one call away if you get a flat on a sandy shoulder or need a jump after a long day at Black Hammock Fish Camp. Pick the coverage tier that matches your comfort level and you're set.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Black Hammock RV reservation?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy applies a clear cancellation policy to every reservation, and the terms are managed by RVezy rather than by individual hosts. Refund eligibility depends on how far in advance you cancel relative to your trip start date. If a tropical system or named storm threatens your Black Hammock weekend during the June to November Atlantic hurricane season, contact RVezy support right away and they'll walk you through your options. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds the booking or offers travel credits. That safety net makes it easy to lock in your dates now.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Black Hammock?
Yes, plenty of pet-friendly RV rentals in Black Hammock welcome your dog. Toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see listings whose hosts allow pets, and message the host to confirm any cleaning fee or breed notes. Black Hammock is a great area for dog owners: the Cross Seminole Trail runs nearby for long shaded walks, and Lake Jesup Park has open green space (just keep pups leashed since alligators live in the lake). Red Bug Lake Park in nearby Casselberry has a fenced off-leash dog area. Pack a tie-out, water bowl, and current vaccination records and you're good to go.
seminolecountyfl.gov/departments-services/leisure-services/greenways-and-natural-lands/Can the RV be delivered to my campsite in Black Hammock?
Yes, RV delivery in Black Hammock is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who'd rather skip driving a large rig. Many local hosts will deliver to spots like Lake Mills Park in Chuluota, Moss Park, or a private driveway in Oviedo, then set up the slides, awning, and hookups and walk you through every system. Delivery fees commonly run $2 to $4 per mile round-trip from the host's location, and some hosts offer flat-rate delivery within a set radius. Just enter your destination address when you request the trip, and the host will confirm pricing. Show up, unlock the door, and start the vacation.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Black%20Hammock%2C%20FloridaHow does mileage work and how far can I travel from Black Hammock?
Hosts set their own mileage allowances, and you'll see the daily limit (often 100 to 150 free miles per day) on the listing before you book. Some listings even offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is ideal for a longer Florida loop. From Black Hammock you're well positioned: Kennedy Space Center is about 50 miles east, Daytona Beach is roughly 55 miles northeast, St. Augustine sits 110 miles north, and Tampa is around 110 miles southwest. If you're eyeing a Keys road trip, expect about 350 miles to Key Largo. Pro tip: filter for unlimited-mileage listings on RVezy if you plan to cover serious ground.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Black%20Hammock%2C%20FloridaWhere can I stay overnight in or near Black Hammock?
You've got great options for RV camping near Black Hammock without driving far. Lake Mills Park in Chuluota (about 6 miles east) offers shaded sites with water and electric beside a small lake. Little Big Econ State Forest has rustic primitive sites for those who want to unplug. Wekiwa Springs State Park, about 30 minutes west, has RV sites with water and electric beside crystal-clear springs. Kelly Park / Rock Springs in Apopka is another scenic nearby option. Boondocking on public roads is not permitted in Seminole County, so reserve a legitimate site. Book at least a month ahead in winter, since Florida snowbird season fills parks fast.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/wekiwa-springs-state-parkWhen is the best time to rent an RV in Black Hammock?
The sweet spot for a Black Hammock RV trip is mid-October through April, when daytime highs typically sit in the 70s and humidity is far more manageable. This is also peak snowbird season, so book your RV and campsite at least 4 to 6 weeks ahead. May and September are good shoulder months with lower prices and fewer crowds, though afternoon thunderstorms are common. Summer (June through August) brings 90+ degree heat, near-daily storms, and Atlantic hurricane season, but it's great for early-morning paddles on Lake Jesup and AC-cooled evenings. Winter nights occasionally dip into the 40s, so make sure your rental has a working furnace.
weather.gov/mlb/climateI've never rented an RV before. Is Black Hammock a good place to start?
It's an excellent place for first time renting an RV. Black Hammock sits on a quiet stretch of Seminole County back roads with low traffic and gentle terrain, so you can get comfortable behind the wheel before heading anywhere busier. Your host will give you a full walk-through at pickup, covering propane, the generator, slides, waste tanks, and hookups, and you can message them anytime during the trip. Many local hosts offer delivery and setup, so the rig is parked and leveled before you arrive. Start with a two-night shakedown at Lake Mills Park to build confidence, then expand from there.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Black%20Hammock%2C%20FloridaWhat happens if I have a breakdown during my Black Hammock RV trip?
You're covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you're on SR-46, parked at Black Hammock Fish Camp, or hours down the Atlantic coast. Roadside covers common issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing. Your host is also a great first call for quirks specific to their RV. Save both the RVezy support number and your host's contact in your phone before pickup. Pro tip: keep a basic tool kit, flashlight, and portable jump starter on board and you'll handle small bumps without skipping a beat.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Black Hammock RV rental to other states or Canada?
Yes, multi-state RV road trips from Black Hammock are common and easy to arrange. Most hosts allow travel throughout the southeastern US, including Georgia, the Carolinas, Tennessee, and Alabama, all within a day's drive. Cross-border travel to Canada may be permitted with host approval, since insurance and protection coverage must extend across the border, so message the host before booking. Travel to Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals because coverage doesn't apply there. Popular routes include Black Hammock to the Florida Keys (about 6 hours), Savannah, GA (5 hours), and the Great Smoky Mountains (10 hours). Confirm your route with the host and you're set.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel economy and gas budget should I plan for?
Plan for honest numbers and you'll stay on budget. Class C motorhomes typically get 8 to 10 miles per gallon on regular unleaded, Class A's around 6 to 8 MPG, and a tow setup (truck plus travel trailer) often lands near 10 to 12 MPG. Florida gas prices generally track close to the national average. For a 4-day Black Hammock RV trip covering roughly 400 miles in a Class C, budget about $180 to $230 in fuel. Pro tip: warehouse club stations and stops along CR-46A in Sanford tend to offer competitive prices in Seminole County.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Black Hammock?
For the best campgrounds near Black Hammock, book early, especially Florida State Parks. Wekiwa Springs and Blue Spring State Park sites open 11 months in advance through the Florida State Parks reservation system and can fill quickly for winter weekends. Seminole County parks like Lake Mills are reserved through the county's online system, typically several months out. Private parks like KOAs and Wekiva Falls RV Resort take reservations a year ahead. For a spontaneous trip, mid-week stays in late spring or early fall almost always have availability. Pro tip: set a calendar alert for exactly 11 months before your target date to grab a prime Wekiwa Springs site the minute it opens.
floridastateparks.org/learn/reservationsWhat are driving conditions like around Black Hammock?
Driving in Black Hammock is refreshingly mellow compared to nearby Orlando. The area is a rural pocket of Seminole County with two-lane roads, gentle elevation, and light traffic, ideal for getting comfortable in a motorhome. Watch for low tree canopies on side roads (most rigs clear, but stay alert), and avoid the I-4 corridor at rush hour (7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m.) where construction zones can be tight. Summer brings short but intense afternoon thunderstorms; pull into a safe lot if visibility drops. SR-417 (the Central Florida GreeneWay) is a smooth tollway that's a great option for moving an RV around the metro.
fdot.gov/traffic/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Black Hammock?
Local campgrounds offer a range of hookups so you can match the experience you want. Wekiva Falls RV Resort and the Orlando NW / Orange Blossom KOA offer full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, sewer) plus pools, laundry, and Wi-Fi. Lake Mills Park provides water and electric with a central dump station. Florida State Parks like Wekiwa Springs offer water and electric sites plus dump stations. For dump stations and freshwater fills on the road, large travel centers along I-75 north of the area are reliable stops. Pro tip: arrive with a 25-foot drinking-water hose, a sewer hose with elbow, and a surge protector; Florida's summer storms can spike electrical lines.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/wekiwa-springs-state-park/things-to-know-before-you-goWhat features and amenities come with most Black Hammock motorhome rentals?
Most motorhome rentals in Black Hammock come ready for Florida living: a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave), a bathroom with shower and toilet, sleeping for 4 to 8, roof-mounted air conditioning (essential here), a furnace for cool winter nights, and seatbelts for travel. Many include a TV, and a growing number of hosts offer Wi-Fi hotspots, outdoor speakers, and a generator for off-grid stays. Check the listing's amenities list to confirm what's included and look for add-ons like a Starlink upgrade, kayak rack, or screen room (handy for Lake Jesup mosquitoes). Pro tip: confirm the AC has been recently serviced before a summer booking; Central Florida humidity is no joke.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Black%20Hammock%2C%20FloridaWhat popular add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts in the Black Hammock area offer a friendly menu of add-ons that can level up your trip. Common options include linen and kitchen kits, generator use by the hour, bikes, kayaks or SUPs (great for Lake Jesup), portable grills, and folding chairs. Delivery and setup is the most popular add-on locally, often a flat fee within a set radius of the host. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Oviedo, Chuluota, or Geneva; coordinate a 30-minute walkthrough window in your booking message. Mileage policies are listed up front, with overage rates shown on the listing. Pro tip: bundle bike rentals with a ride on the Cross Seminole Trail out of Oviedo for an effortless car-free day.
seminolecountyfl.gov/departments-services/leisure-services/greenways-and-natural-lands/trails/cross-seminole-trail.stmlHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy with a credit or debit card at the time of booking, and funds are processed by RVezy rather than directly by the host. Most hosts also require a refundable security deposit, which is separate from your booking payment and authorized on your card before pickup, then released after return assuming no damage or extra cleaning is needed. To avoid issues, do a quick walk-around video with your host at pickup and dropoff, follow the mileage and generator limits on the listing, and return the RV at the agreed fuel and waste-tank levels. Pro tip: empty black and grey tanks at the campground dump station before heading back.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksIs summer too hot for an RV trip in Black Hammock?
Summer is absolutely doable with smart planning, and it's typically the cheapest season for a Black Hammock RV trip. Expect highs near 92F, high humidity, and near-daily afternoon thunderstorms from mid-June through September. Confirm with your host that the roof AC (and ideally a second mid-coach AC) is in working order, and plan to use 30 or 50-amp shore power so the AC can run continuously. Schedule outdoor adventures like Lake Jesup paddles and Black Hammock Wilderness hikes before 10 a.m., then retreat to the rig or cool off at Wekiwa Springs' 72F swim hole in the afternoon. Pro tip: park with the awning facing east so the RV is shaded by mid-afternoon.
