Overview of campgrounds near Callaway
Callaway sits on the eastern edge of the Panama City metro area in Bay County, Florida, minutes from St. Andrews Bay and roughly a fifteen-minute drive to the Gulf beaches of Panama City Beach. RV travelers use it as a base for salt-water fishing, barrier-island days, and quieter inland stays without the resort traffic across the bay.
Options range from small local parks such as Deerhaven RV Park to the state-run campground at St Andrews State Park, where two loops sit in the pinewoods near Grand Lagoon with 176 sites that include electricity, water, picnic tables and grills. Larger resort-style properties on the beach side of the bay include Venture Out Panama City Beach, Panama City Beach RV Resort, and Sun Outdoors Panama City Beach.
Most sites in the area accommodate travel trailers and Class A, B, and C motorhomes, with 30- and 50-amp electric service common at the larger parks and at the state park.
Things to do near Callaway
The main draw is the Gulf coast. St Andrews State Park has over 1.5 miles of white-sand beach, along with two fishing piers, a jetty, a boat ramp, and two nature trails that wind through diverse coastal plants. Swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, and surf fishing are standard activities, and a shuttle service to Shell Island runs from the park.
Inland, families use Callaway for day trips to the Panama City marina district, the St. Andrews Bay waterfront, and the Conservation Park trail network in Panama City Beach. Alligators can be spotted at the Gator Lake Trail and Overlook, and the Environmental Interpretive Center houses a park orientation video, ecosystem dioramas of the piney woods, the jetty underwater life and the marshlands, making it a good rainy-day stop with kids.

63° / 48°F 95 mmMild; snowbird season at larger RV resorts
Summer is the prime season for camping in this part of Florida, and reservations should be made as far in advance as possible; spring or fall generally offer more availability and fewer crowds. St Andrews State Park is open year-round, and the private resorts across the bay also operate through all four seasons.
Winter is mild rather than warm, and the area draws snowbirds from the Midwest and Canada into the larger resort parks. Gulf water temperatures drop into the low 60s Fahrenheit from December through February, so beach days shift toward walking, shelling, and fishing rather than swimming.
Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, with peak activity in August and September. Tropical systems can force short-notice closures and evacuations along this stretch of coast, so travelers should monitor National Hurricane Center advisories and check park status before arrival during those months.
How to book campgrounds near Callaway
St Andrews State Park is reserved through the Florida State Parks reservation system online or by phone. Florida residents may make campsite or cabin reservations up to 11 months in advance, and non-Florida residents up to 10 months in advance. New sites become available for reservation daily at 8 a.m. Eastern time, and popular summer dates often sell out quickly on the day they open, so setting an alarm for the exact release time helps.
The privately operated parks near Callaway, including Deerhaven RV Park, Venture Out Panama City Beach, Panama City Beach RV Resort, and Sun Outdoors Panama City Beach, book directly through each property or its listed online reservation channels. Cancellations are common at the state park, so checking the reservation site periodically can free up otherwise sold-out dates.
What to expect at Callaway campgrounds
Expect sandy soil, pine canopy, and warm, humid air for most of the year. Most sites at St Andrews State Park have a view of Lower Grand Lagoon and feature water, 30- and 50-amp electric, and sewer connections, with a picnic table and grill at each site. The campground is popular and site spacing can feel tight in places. The park is open 8 a.m. until sundown, 365 days a year, and campers who plan to arrive after sunset should call the park for the gate combination and instructions.
The larger private resorts on the beach side generally offer full hookups, paved pads, pools, and laundry, and cater to longer stays. Biting insects, afternoon thunderstorms, and strong sun are normal from late spring through early fall, so awnings, screen rooms, and reef-safe sunscreen are worth packing.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Callaway, FL
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Callaway, FL?
RV rental in Callaway is often more affordable than booking beachfront hotels in nearby Panama City Beach. On RVezy, travel trailers and fifth wheels typically range from about $90 to $175 per night, while motorhomes generally run $150 to $275 per night depending on age, size, and season. Many hosts offer weekly and monthly discounts, which add up quickly on a longer Gulf Coast getaway. For cheap RV rental Callaway options, travel January through early March or filter by towable trailers, which tend to be the lowest-priced category. Pro tip: pair a well-equipped travel trailer with a host who offers delivery, so you can skip towing and fuel costs while still parking right by the Emerald Coast beaches.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Callaway%2C%20FloridaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Callaway, Florida?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Callaway, Florida. The state of Florida does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal-use RVs, including Class A motorhomes, Class C motorhomes, campervans, and travel trailers commonly listed on RVezy. You will need to be at least 25 years old and verify your ID through the RVezy platform during booking, which takes just a few minutes. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP), available from your local auto club for under $20. That is it, you are cleared to cruise Highway 98 along the Gulf.
flhsmv.gov/driver-licenses-id-cards/what-to-bring/Is RV rental insurance and roadside assistance included in Callaway?
Yes, every RV rental in Callaway booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance. You choose your level of protection at checkout, not the host, so you can pick the coverage that best fits your trip and family. Roadside assistance is built into every protection plan, so if you get a flat on Tyndall Parkway or need a tow back from St. Andrews State Park, help is one call away around the clock. This gives renters real peace of mind on Florida Panhandle roads, where summer thunderstorms and sandy shoulders are part of the adventure.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Callaway RV rental?
Booking an RV trip in Callaway is low-risk because RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy that applies to your reservation. Every booking includes a money-back grace period shortly after booking, so if plans change quickly you can cancel and receive a refund. Beyond the grace period, refund eligibility depends on how far out your trip is and the specific policy tied to your booking. If a named storm or natural disaster affects the Florida Panhandle during hurricane season (June through November), RVezy support can help you review your options. The support team is reachable before, during, and after your trip.

Yes, pet-friendly RV rental Callaway options are easy to find on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when searching and you will see listings where hosts welcome pets. Callaway and the surrounding Bay County are wonderfully dog-friendly: St. Andrews State Park allows leashed pets in designated areas of the campground and on most trails, and Panama City Beach has a designated dog beach at the west end where your pup can splash in the Gulf. Pack a tie-out, fresh water, and a towel, since white sand sticks to everything. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fees and pet details so check-in is smooth.
floridastateparks.org/learn/pets-florida-state-parksCan the RV be delivered to my campsite or vacation rental in Callaway?
Yes, RV delivery Callaway is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and many local hosts will bring the RV right to your campground or beach house driveway. They will level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys, which is perfect if it is your first time renting an RV. Common drop-off spots include St. Andrews State Park, Panama City Beach RV Resort, and Mexico Beach area campgrounds. Delivery fees are set by each host based on distance and RV size, and you will see the exact cost on the listing page before you book.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksHow do mileage policies work for an RV rental in Callaway, FL?

For reference, popular round trips from Callaway include Pensacola Beach (about 200 miles round trip), Apalachicola (about 140 miles round trip), and Destin (about 100 miles round trip). If you plan to roam, filter by listings with higher mileage caps or simply message the host. Pro tip: ask about a flat-fee mileage package up front for big driving days.
fdot.gov/agencyresources/mapsWhere are the best campgrounds near Callaway, FL?
You are spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping Callaway. Top picks within about 30 minutes include St. Andrews State Park, a Florida favorite with Gulf access and water and electric hookups; Panama City Beach RV Resort, which welcomes large rigs and offers a pool and resort amenities; Panama City Beach KOA Holiday, a family-friendly option close to Pier Park; Raccoon River Campground near Shipwreck Island Waterpark; and Pineglen Motorcoach and RV Park, a well-rated option north of Panama City Beach. floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/st-andrews-state-parkWhen is the best time to take a Callaway RV trip?
The sweet spot for a Callaway RV trip is March through May and again from late September through November, when daytime highs typically sit in the 70s and low 80s and humidity is manageable. April and October are widely considered among the most pleasant months. Winter (December through February) is mild with daytime highs often in the 60s and overnight lows around the mid-40s, making Callaway a fantastic snowbird escape. Summer brings hot, humid days near 90 degrees, frequent afternoon thunderstorms, and peak beach crowds in nearby Panama City Beach. Hurricane season runs June through November, so keep an eye on forecasts. Local insider tip: visit in early May for warm Gulf water without the peak summer crowds.
weather.gov/tae/I have never driven an RV before. Will I be okay in Callaway?
You will do great, even if this is your first time renting an RV. Callaway sits along a mostly flat, straight stretch of US-98 and Tyndall Parkway with wide lanes and easy access to Panama City Beach, which is ideal for new RV drivers. Every RVezy host gives a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through driving, leveling, hookups, the generator, and the slide-outs before you leave. Nervous about driving? Pick a Class C motorhome or travel trailer under 25 feet, or book delivery so the RV is already set up when you arrive. Pro tip: avoid the Hathaway Bridge into Panama City Beach during 5pm rush hour and on summer Saturdays when beach traffic peaks.
fdot.gov/safety/What happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You are covered. Every RV rental in Callaway booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so if you get a flat tire on Highway 98, a dead battery at St. Andrews State Park, or need a tow back from Mexico Beach, one phone call gets help dispatched. For non-emergency questions like a finicky AC or how the awning works, your host is your first call because they know the rig best. RVezy customer support is also available before, during, and after your trip if you need backup. Florida humidity can be tough on RV systems, so do not stress, the support network is built for it.

An RV road trip from Callaway opens up some of the best of the Gulf Coast and Florida Panhandle. Top routes include Mexico Beach and Cape San Blas (about 35 to 60 miles east) for quiet sugar-sand beaches; Apalachicola (about 70 miles east) for oysters, history, and the Forgotten Coast; Destin and Henderson Beach State Park (about 50 miles west) for emerald water and shopping; Pensacola Beach and Gulf Islands National Seashore (about 100 miles west); and Tallahassee with Wakulla Springs (about 100 miles east) for crystal-clear swimming holes. visitflorida.com/places-to-go/northwest/How much should I budget for fuel on my Callaway RV trip?
Fuel is one of the easier parts of budgeting for a Callaway RV trip. Florida gas prices typically run a bit below the national average, and Bay County has plenty of large stations off US-98 and Highway 22 with easy RV pull-in access (try the Pilot in Panama City or Wawa locations along 23rd Street). Expect Class A motorhomes to get 7-10 MPG, Class C around 10-14 MPG, campervans 16-20 MPG, and tow vehicles pulling travel trailers 9-12 MPG. For a 200-mile weekend loop to Destin or Apalachicola, plan on $60-$100 in fuel for most rigs. Pro tip: fill up in Callaway or Lynn Haven before heading to the beaches, where prices climb during tourist season.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Callaway?
For the best campgrounds near Callaway, book as early as you can, especially for state parks. Florida State Parks reservations, including St. Andrews State Park and T.H. Stone Memorial St. Joseph Peninsula State Park, open 11 months in advance through the Florida State Parks reservation system, and prime weekends can fill within hours. Private parks like Panama City Beach RV Resort, Pineglen Motorcoach and RV Park, and Panama City Beach KOA typically book up 2 to 4 months ahead for spring break (March), summer (June to July), and snowbird season (January to February). For shoulder-season trips in April, May, October, or November, 4 to 6 weeks out usually works. Pro tip: set a reminder for exactly 11 months before your target date and book first thing in the morning Eastern time.
floridastateparks.org/learn/reservationsWhat are the local driving conditions like around Callaway?
Driving an RV around Callaway is refreshingly easy. The roads are flat, well-maintained, and built to handle plenty of RV traffic since Tyndall Air Force Base sits right next door and snowbirds pour in every winter. Main routes are US-98 (Tyndall Parkway), Highway 22, and US-231 north to I-10. Watch for two specific things: summer afternoon thunderstorms can dump heavy rain quickly between June and September, so pull over if visibility drops, and the Hathaway Bridge into Panama City Beach gets congested on summer weekends. Hurricane season (June through November) is worth monitoring on the National Weather Service Tallahassee forecast. Otherwise, you have got smooth sailing and gorgeous Gulf views. Local insider tip: take Thomas Drive instead of Front Beach Road to avoid PCB traffic.
weather.gov/tae/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Callaway?
Campgrounds near Callaway are well-equipped for any rig. Most private parks like Panama City Beach RV Resort and Panama City Beach KOA offer full hookups (water, sewer, 30/50-amp electric), Wi-Fi, laundry, pools, and on-site dump stations. State parks like St. Andrews provide water and electric at the site plus a central dump station and bathhouses with hot showers, but no sewer at individual sites. Fresh water fills are standard at park entrances. If you need to dump between stays, the Bay County area has public dump stations at several truck stops along US-98 and I-10. Pro tip: arrive with full fresh water and an empty black tank, that way you have flexibility no matter where you camp first.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/st-andrews-state-parkWhat features and amenities come with a typical Callaway RV rental?
Motorhome rental Callaway and travel trailer listings on RVezy are typically well-equipped. Most rigs include sleeping accommodations, a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a wet or dry bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control with roof AC and a propane furnace, dinette seating that often converts to extra sleeping space, and seatbelts for travelers in motorized RVs. Many hosts include a TV, outdoor speakers, an awning, and an onboard generator for off-grid days. Wi-Fi varies by listing, but Bay County has strong cell coverage so a phone hotspot usually works fine. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count and review listing photos closely for must-haves like an outdoor kitchen or larger bed.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Callaway%2C%20FloridaWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about when I rent an RV in Callaway?
When you rent an RV in Callaway, hosts often offer add-ons that make the trip easier. Common extras include beach chairs and umbrellas, paddleboards or kayaks (great for St. Andrews Bay), bedding and towel packages, camp kitchen kits, generators, portable grills, bike racks, and pet packages. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Callaway, Parker, Lynn Haven, or Panama City, but many hosts offer RV delivery to your campground or rental house for a fee. Add-on prices and mileage policies are spelled out clearly on each listing. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and bedding into your booking to skip the learning curve, which is perfect for a stress-free first-time family RV trip Callaway.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Callaway%2C%20FloridaHow does payment and the security deposit work on a Callaway RV rental?
Payment for your RV rental in Callaway is handled securely through the RVezy platform, with no cash, checks, or off-platform transfers. You pay with a credit or debit card during booking, and your payment is protected by RVezy's secure system. A refundable security deposit is held (not charged) on your card around the time of pickup, and the amount is shown clearly on the listing before you book. As long as you return the RV in the same condition, with tanks handled per host instructions, and within the agreed mileage, that hold is released after your trip. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos at pickup and drop-off for easy proof and total peace of mind.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I take my Callaway RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome on most RVezy rentals from Callaway, and many guests use their rental for multi-state Gulf Coast or Southeast loops through Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and insurance terms, so message the host directly from the listing page before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend across that border. Popular RV road trip from Callaway routes include heading west to New Orleans (about 380 miles) for the French Quarter or north toward Nashville (about 600 miles) for live music and Smoky Mountain detours. Confirm the mileage allowance with your host before you roll out.
