Campgrounds and RV parks near Dunnellon, FL

Dunnellon sits at the confluence of the Rainbow and Withlacoochee rivers in north-central Florida, about 20 miles southwest of Ocala. The area is a spring-country hub for RV travelers, with sites ranging from full-hookup state park camping on the Rainbow River to private resorts on Lake Rousseau and primitive equestrian sites along the Cross Florida Greenway. Rainbow Springs State Park's campground sits along the Rainbow River at a separate facility a few miles from the main headspring and day-use area, with sites offering water, electric (20, 30 and 50 amp) and sewer hook-ups, and a maximum RV length of 103 feet. Private options include Sandy Oaks RV Resort and Quail Roost RV Campground on the Dunnellon and Crystal River corridor, plus Lake Rousseau RV Park, located about 10 miles southwest of Dunnellon, with waterfront and full-hookup sites. For riders and trail users, Shangri-La Equestrian Campground sits along the southern boundary of the Cross Florida Greenway in the rolling sandhills about 5 miles west of I-75 off the County Road 484 exit, offering primitive pull-through sites.

Rainbow Springs State Park uses the Florida State Parks reservation system. Florida residents can make campsite reservations 11 months in advance, while non-residents can make reservations 10 months in advance, and it is also possible to call for potential same-day reservations. Reservations can be made through the Florida State Parks reservations website or by calling 800-326-3521. Winter weekends and holidays are the hardest to secure and typically require booking at the opening of the window. Shangri-La Trailhead and Campground uses the same state parks system, with reservations available up to 11 months in advance. Private resorts including Sandy Oaks RV Resort, Quail Roost RV Campground, and Lake Rousseau RV Park book directly through their own websites or phone lines, and long-stay winter demand can fill sites months ahead.
