Campgrounds and RV parks near Fort White, FL

Tubing the Ichetucknee is the signature activity. The upper portion of the river within the state park is a National Natural Landmark, best enjoyed by canoe or kayak during the cooler months when tube traffic is lower. The south entrance handles most tube rentals and river launches, while the north entrance provides swim access to Blue Hole Spring and the head spring. Ginnie Springs Outdoors adds paddling, snorkeling, and open-water and cavern diving, with 72-degree water suited to river tubing, swimming, snorkeling, and scuba and cave diving. Visitors can also rent tubes, paddleboards, and dive gear on-site. At Gilchrist Blue Springs, the main pool is 24 feet deep with a water temperature of 72 degrees, surrounded by a jumping platform and a white-sand beach; only one of the smaller springs allows swimming, while the others are for viewing. Kayak and canoe rentals, a short boardwalk, and hiking trails round out family-friendly options.

Summer is peak tubing season and by far the busiest time in the Fort White area. Ichetucknee Springs State Park sees very high visitation on weekends and holidays, and when the park reaches capacity, it temporarily closes to all visitors, including those with day-use reservations. Gilchrist Blue Springs also sees larger crowds as temperatures rise, and once the parking lot reaches capacity the park closes and only registered campers are allowed to enter. Booking a campsite inside a state park is the surest way to keep access on a busy weekend. Spring shoulder season brings milder temperatures and lighter crowds, though afternoon thunderstorms build by May. Fall runs cooler and drier, and is often the best window for paddling, though the Atlantic hurricane season runs through November. Winter days are cool but the springs hold steady: the water temperature of Gilchrist Blue Springs is a constant 72 degrees year-round. Active construction and repair projects can affect access at Gilchrist Blue Springs, so verifying current camping, launch, and trail status with the park before arrival is recommended.

The area is rural. There are small shops and restaurants in Fort White, but larger grocery runs generally mean a trip into High Springs or Gainesville, so RV travelers should provision before arrival. Sites tend to be sandy and shaded under live oaks and pines. At Ginnie Springs, all water and electric sites have a picnic table and grill, and there are no sewer hookups on the site, but a dump station is available for campers to use. At Gilchrist Blue Springs, the camping sites are both pull-through and back-in with 30-amp electrical hookups and water, and each space has a picnic table and an area for a fire. Full-hookup expectations should be checked per campground. The campground at Ginnie Springs draws a notably social crowd, particularly on weekends when college-age groups gather for river floating and spring activities. Families seeking quieter nights often prefer state park sites or midweek stays.
