Campgrounds near Greenwood, Florida
Greenwood sits in Jackson County in the Florida Panhandle, a short drive east of Marianna and roughly an hour west of Tallahassee. The area falls within the Chipola River watershed, and its mix of spring-fed waters, hardwood hammocks, and rolling farmland gives RV travelers a base that feels closer to south Georgia than to peninsular Florida. Interstate 10 runs a few miles south, making Greenwood an easy overnight stop for east-west travelers and a practical hub for exploring nearby state parks.
RV options cluster around Merritt's Mill Pond and the Marianna corridor. Florida Caverns RV Resort at Merritt's Mill Pond offers concrete pull-through 30/50/100 amp sites overlooking the pond, while Stay N Go RV Resort, Stay N Go RV, Alliance Hill RV Resort, and Hitchinpost RV Park and Campground round out the private-park choices within a short drive.
Public camping centers on the 1,500-acre Florida Caverns State Park near Marianna, which offers 38 sites split between two areas, with the Blue Hole Campground providing 32 full-hookup sites.
Things to do near Greenwood
The main draw is Florida Caverns State Park. Visitors can explore the cave system via guided tours, swim in the crystal-clear Blue Hole spring, paddle the Chipola River, hike multi-use trails, or ride horses on equestrian paths. Guided cave tours run seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Central Time and last about an hour, and the route includes stairs, low ceilings, and narrow passages, so families with small children should plan accordingly.
Merritt's Mill Pond, adjacent to Florida Caverns RV Resort, is a spring-fed water body popular with paddlers, snorkelers, and cave divers. The Chipola River offers flatwater paddling with clear runs and limestone banks. The Visitor Center exhibits cover the geology and human history of the panhandle karst region.
For day trips, Falling Waters State Park and Three Rivers State Park are both within a reasonable drive.

Greenwood sits far enough north in Florida to have a real cool season. Winters are mild but not tropical, with occasional freezes possible from December through February. This is the quietest camping period, and full-hookup sites are generally easier to secure on short notice. Cave tours continue year-round, and cool air makes hiking the Chipola floodplain trails more comfortable.
Spring and early summer are the prime windows. Exploring the park is possible year-round, but it is most colorful during spring and early summer when wildflowers bloom along the floodplains. This is also when peak season begins: campsites can book up fast, especially over holiday weekends, so booking several months in advance is prudent.
Late summer brings heat, humidity, and near-daily thunderstorms, and Atlantic hurricane season runs from June through November with peak activity in August and September. Fall cools off quickly and offers some of the driest, most comfortable camping weather of the year.
How to book campgrounds near Greenwood
For Florida Caverns State Park, book through the state reservation system. The park is open year-round, with reservations available up to 11 months in advance via the Florida State Parks reservations website or by calling 800-326-3521. Florida residents can book 11 months out, while non-residents book 10 months in advance. A non-refundable reservation fee applies at time of booking. Same-day cave tour tickets are sold first-come, first-served at the Florida Caverns Gift Shop, with a limited number of online reservations available.
Private parks such as Florida Caverns RV Resort at Merritt's Mill Pond, Stay N Go RV Resort, Alliance Hill RV Resort, and Hitchinpost RV Park and Campground book directly through their own websites or by phone. For spring break and holiday weekends, reserve early. Confirm rig-length limits and hookup amperage before arrival.
What to expect on arrival
Sites at Florida Caverns State Park are shaded and set among hardwoods. Blue Hole Campground sites include 30/50-amp electricity, water, and sewer, and each site has a picnic table, in-ground grill, hammock stand, and fire ring. Restrooms with showers are available in both areas, along with a dishwashing sink and a free communal dump station at the entrance to the youth camp.
Large rigs should note access limits. The maximum RV length at Blue Hole is 32 feet, and sites angle 90 degrees from the road, requiring backing maneuvers. Private resorts around Merritt's Mill Pond and along the I-10 corridor generally accommodate longer rigs and pull-throughs, with Florida Caverns RV Resort listing pull-through sites up to 60 feet.
Expect strong cell coverage near I-10 and Marianna, spotty coverage on back roads, and mosquitoes from spring through fall. Bring bug spray, water shoes for the springs, and a light jacket in winter.
