Campgrounds near Heathrow, Florida
Heathrow sits in Seminole County just off Interstate 4, roughly a half-hour north of downtown Orlando and a similar drive south of Daytona Beach. RV travelers use it as a quiet base for Central Florida attractions, the St. Johns River corridor, and the spring-fed rivers of the Wekiva basin. Most campgrounds within a short drive are private RV resorts, with one major Florida State Park nearby offering hookup sites.
Closest options include Twelve Oaks RV Resort in Sanford, a large park with full hookups and a long-stay community feel, and Wekiva Falls RV Resort in Sorrento, a family-oriented property on the Wekiva River with an on-site spring, pool, and tent and RV sites. Highbanks Marina and Camp Resort sits on the St. Johns River in DeBary with full-hookup sites, a marina, and a screened pool.
Blue Spring State Park, west of Orange City, offers 51 water-and-electric sites for rigs up to 40 feet, and Lost Lake RV Resort in Apopka rounds out the options for travelers who want a quieter park closer to the west side of Orlando.
Things to do near Heathrow
The Wekiva and St. Johns river systems anchor most outdoor activity. Paddlers launch from Wekiva Falls RV Resort onto the Wekiva, one of only two rivers in Florida federally designated wild and scenic, and Highbanks Marina and Camp Resort offers rentals and boat access for St. Johns River trips.
Blue Spring State Park is the region's headline attraction: a 72-degree spring that draws hundreds of manatees between mid-November and March, plus swimming, snorkeling, and tubing once manatees leave in spring. The park also has trails through sand pine scrub and the historic Thursby House.
Families staying at Twelve Oaks RV Resort or Lost Lake RV Resort are within easy driving distance of the Orlando theme parks, the Central Florida Zoo, and historic downtown Sanford's Riverwalk and dining district.

Central Florida runs on a two-season pattern: hot, humid, thunderstorm-prone summers and mild, drier winters. Peak RV demand near Heathrow is roughly November through April, when snowbirds fill long-stay parks such as Twelve Oaks RV Resort and Lost Lake RV Resort and daytime highs sit in the 70s. Sites at private resorts along the Wekiva and St. Johns often book out months in advance during this window.
Manatee season at Blue Spring State Park runs from about mid-November through March, when the spring run closes to swimming, snorkeling, and boating to protect the animals. Swimming resumes once the manatees leave, typically April through mid-November.
Summer brings daily afternoon thunderstorms and heat indexes above 100. It is also Atlantic hurricane season, June through November, with peak activity in August and September. Parks generally stay open, but travelers should monitor forecasts and expect wet, humid conditions.

How to book campgrounds near Heathrow
Blue Spring State Park uses the Florida State Parks reservation system. Florida residents can book 11 months in advance and non-residents 10 months in advance, and same-day reservations are accepted up to 1 p.m. Eastern. Florida residents must provide a valid Florida driver's license or ID number to use the resident window.
Private resorts including Twelve Oaks RV Resort, Wekiva Falls RV Resort, Highbanks Marina and Camp Resort, and Lost Lake RV Resort take reservations directly through their websites or by phone, and many honor Good Sam discounts. For winter stays, book long-stay parks by late summer, and for holidays and Bike Week reserve as early as the window allows.
What to expect on-site
Expect flat terrain, sandy soil, and mature oaks with Spanish moss at most parks in the area. Private resorts typically offer 30- and 50-amp full hookups, paved or gravel pads, laundry, showers, and a pool. Twelve Oaks RV Resort caters more to long-term and adult guests, while Wekiva Falls RV Resort is oriented toward families with a spring, water activities, and planned events.
Blue Spring State Park sites are more rustic: water and 30-amp electric only, a dump station in the campground, and rigs up to 40 feet. Cell service is generally good across the region but can be spotty at Blue Spring. Wildlife sightings, including alligators, sandhill cranes, and manatees in season, are common, so keep pets leashed and food secured.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Heathrow, FL
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Heathrow, FL?
RV rental in Heathrow is one of the most affordable ways to explore Central Florida. On RVezy, travel trailers typically start around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $175 to $275 per night, and luxury Class A coaches can run $250 to $400 per night. To score a cheap RV rental in Heathrow, aim for the May or September shoulder season, book a travel trailer (often the lowest nightly rate), and look for hosts offering weekly discounts. Pro tip: filter for Instant Book listings to lock in pricing without waiting on quote replies, and message hosts about multi-night discounts for stays of 5+ nights near Orlando.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Heathrow,%20FloridaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Heathrow, Florida?
Good news for first-time renters: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Heathrow, even for larger Class A motorhomes. Florida does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or special RV endorsement for personal motorhomes, which covers virtually every rental on RVezy. RVezy approved drivers are generally required to be at least 25 years old, and your ID is verified through the booking platform in just a few minutes. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring your home-country license along with an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're road-ready.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs my Heathrow RV rental protected if something goes wrong?
Peace of mind is built into every booking. Every RV rental in Heathrow on RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so help is one call away whether you get a flat on I-4 or need a jump start at your campsite. During checkout you choose from multiple protection plan tiers based on how much coverage you want, with higher tiers offering lower deductibles and broader damage coverage. The protection plan covers most accidental damage to the RV during your trip, and you, not the host, choose your level of coverage.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is RVezy's cancellation policy for Heathrow rentals?
RVezy sets the cancellation policy on every rental, not individual hosts, so you get the same fair, transparent terms across every listing in Heathrow. There's a money-back grace period right after booking, and refund options scale based on how far ahead of your trip start date you cancel. Special situations like hurricane evacuations or other natural disasters (relevant in Central Florida from June through November) are reviewed by the RVezy support team. Pro tip: book early to secure your Heathrow RV trip dates, and you'll still have flexibility if plans shift before your pickup day.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Heathrow?
Yes, your pup is welcome on the road. Plenty of hosts offer pet-friendly RV rental in Heathrow, and finding them is simple: toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy's search page. Once you're rolling, Central Florida is great for dog parents. The Cross Seminole Trail welcomes leashed dogs across more than 23 miles of paved trail, and Wekiwa Springs State Park allows leashed pets at most campsites and designated areas. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fees, and pack a collapsible water bowl since Florida days can get hot fast.
floridastateparks.org/learn/pets-florida-state-parksCan the RV be delivered to my campsite or rental home in Heathrow?
Yes, and it's often the easiest way to start your trip. Many RVezy hosts offer RV delivery in Heathrow and across Seminole County, meaning they'll tow or drive the motorhome straight to your campsite, vacation rental, or driveway, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system. This is a great option if it's your first time renting an RV or you'd rather skip driving a larger rig through Orlando traffic. Popular delivery destinations include Wekiwa Springs State Park and Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort. Filter for Delivery on RVezy and check each host's delivery radius and per-mile fee.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/wekiwa-springs-state-parkHow far can I drive on an RV road trip from Heathrow?
Heathrow is a great launch point for a Florida RV road trip. Daytona Beach is about 50 miles east (around an hour drive), Walt Disney World and Kissimmee are roughly 35 miles south, the Kennedy Space Center sits about 65 miles southeast, and St. Augustine's historic district is around 100 miles north up I-95. Want a bigger adventure? The Florida Keys are roughly 350 miles south, and the Great Smoky Mountains are about 600 miles north. Most RVezy hosts include a daily mileage allowance (often 100-150 miles per day) with reasonable per-mile fees beyond that. Looking for RV rental with unlimited mileage? Use the search filters or message hosts directly.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Heathrow,%20FloridaWhere are the best campgrounds near Heathrow, FL?
Heathrow sits near some of Central Florida's top RV camping options. Wekiwa Springs State Park (about 20 minutes southwest) offers shaded campsites with water and electric hookups near crystal-clear springs. Kelly Park / Rock Springs in Apopka is great for families with tubing and shaded sites. Highbanks Marina & Camp Resort along the St. Johns River is a favorite for fishing fans. For the theme-park crowd, Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort is about 45 minutes south with full hookups and Disney transportation. Pro tip: Florida State Park sites open for booking 11 months in advance, so set a calendar reminder for prime weekends.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/wekiwa-springs-state-parkWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Heathrow?
The sweet spot for RV camping in Heathrow runs from mid-October through April, when daytime highs are a comfortable 70-80F and humidity drops noticeably. January and February nights can dip into the 40s, so a heated RV is nice but rarely critical. Summer (June through September) brings highs in the low 90s, high humidity, and near-daily afternoon thunderstorms, plus it's peak Atlantic hurricane season. That said, summer is when you'll find the best deals and shortest campground waitlists if you don't mind running the AC. Pro tip: March is a sweet spot, with warm, drier days and spring training baseball just an hour away.
weather.gov/mlb/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
You've got this, and Heathrow is a friendly place to learn. First time renting an RV? Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through driving tips, slide-outs, water systems, the generator, and how to dump tanks. They'll also share their contact info so you can reach out with questions mid-trip. The roads around Heathrow (I-4, the 417 toll road, and US-17/92) are wide and well-marked, and easy for beginners outside rush hour. For your first night, pick a close, easy campground like Wekiwa Springs State Park, under 30 minutes away. Even better: book delivery and skip the driving entirely on day one.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if I break down during my Heathrow RV trip?
You're never on your own. Every RV rental in Heathrow on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, covering common issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing. If something goes sideways on I-4 or out at Wekiwa Springs, one call gets a professional dispatched to your location. You can also message your host directly: most are local to the Orlando-Sanford area and know reputable nearby repair shops. RVezy's customer support team is also available before, during, and after your trip through the Help Center. Pro tip: snap photos of your RV's exterior and tire condition at pickup to make any claim faster.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I drive my Heathrow RV rental into other states or to Mexico?
Yes, interstate road trips are on the table. From Heathrow, popular RV road trips head north to Georgia's Golden Isles (about 5 hours), the Great Smoky Mountains (around 9 hours), and South Carolina's Myrtle Beach (about 8 hours). Cross-state travel within the U.S. is generally allowed on RVezy rentals, just confirm with your host since some set mileage caps or regional limits. One firm rule: travel to Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals because insurance, the protection plan, and roadside assistance don't extend across the border. Heading to the Florida Keys or up the Eastern Seaboard is fine. Message your host upfront about your route so they can confirm everything works.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on my Heathrow RV trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable cost, but it's easy to plan for. Class B campervans average roughly 18-22 MPG, Class C motorhomes get about 10-14 MPG, Class A coaches typically run 7-10 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (often 10-13 MPG). For a 200-mile weekend loop in a Class C, budget roughly $60-$90 in fuel based on current Florida gas prices. Pro tip: use a fuel-finder app to compare prices along I-4 and SR-417, and fuel up before crossing into the theme-park zone where prices often spike. Many Heathrow hosts also let you pick up with a full propane tank for the same price.
gasprices.aaa.com/state-gas-price-averages/How far in advance should I book a campground near Heathrow?
Booking ahead is the single biggest secret to a smooth trip. Florida State Parks like Wekiwa Springs open reservations 11 months in advance at 8:00 a.m. ET through the Florida State Parks reservation system, and prime winter and holiday weekends can sell out within minutes. Private parks like Highbanks Marina typically book 2-3 months out for peak season (October through April). National sites are bookable through Recreation.gov on a similar 6-month window. Pro tip: if your dates are flexible, target Sunday-Thursday arrivals, you'll find better availability even on short notice, and many private parks discount weeknight rates.
floridastateparks.org/learn/camping-reservationsWhat are driving conditions like around Heathrow?
Heathrow sits right off I-4 and SR-417 (the Central Florida GreeneWay toll road), which means smooth, modern roads but heavy commuter traffic between roughly 7-9 a.m. and 4-7 p.m. on weekdays. Plan to hit the road mid-morning or after dinner to dodge it. SR-417 is RV-friendly with wide lanes and electronic toll billing, your host will tell you how tolls are handled. Watch for sudden afternoon thunderstorms from June through September, they can drop visibility quickly, so pull off at the next rest area until they pass. Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, and Florida's evacuation routes are clearly marked. Pro tip: take SR-417 around Orlando during rush hour instead of I-4.
fl511.com/What amenities do campgrounds near Heathrow offer?
Central Florida campgrounds are well-equipped for any RV. Most private parks near Heathrow (including Highbanks Marina and KOA properties in the Orlando area) offer full hookups: 30/50-amp electric, fresh water, sewer at the site, plus Wi-Fi, laundry, pools, and dump stations. State parks like Wekiwa Springs offer water and 30/50-amp electric at most sites with a central dump station near the exit, but no sewer at the pad. Every Florida state park has a potable water fill station near the campground entrance. Pro tip: if you're visiting parks without sewer hookups, the Flying J Travel Center in Wildwood (about 45 minutes north) has a public dump station and propane refill.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/wekiwa-springs-state-parkWhat's actually inside a typical Heathrow RV rental?
You'll be impressed by how well-equipped these rigs are. A typical motorhome rental in Heathrow comes with a queen or king bed, a full kitchen (fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, sink), a wet or dry bathroom with hot shower, a dinette that converts to extra sleeping, roof and dash AC (essential in Florida), a furnace, a generator or shore-power setup, and seatbelts for everyone traveling. Most rentals sleep 4-8 people. Many hosts also include a flat-screen TV, Bluetooth stereo, and an outdoor awning. Wi-Fi varies, some hosts include a mobile hotspot, otherwise plan to use your phone's data. Pro tip: filter listings by sleeps count and must-haves like bunk beds for a family RV trip in Heathrow.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Heathrow,%20FloridaWhat add-ons and pickup options can I expect with a Heathrow RV rental?
Hosts make trip prep easy. Common add-ons on RVezy listings in Heathrow include kitchen kits, linen and bedding packages, camp chairs and outdoor rugs, bike racks, generators, and pre-filled propane. Some hosts also offer pre-stocked groceries or theme-park shuttle drop-off as extras. Pickup is usually at the host's home or a meeting point near Lake Mary, Sanford, or the I-4 corridor, and the orientation walkthrough typically takes 30-60 minutes. Mileage policies vary: expect roughly 100-150 free miles per day with a per-mile fee beyond that, or filter for unlimited-mileage listings. Pro tip: book the kitchen and linen packages on your first trip, you'll appreciate not packing it all from home.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Heathrow,%20FloridaHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple, secure, and fully online: no cash or awkward handoffs. When you book your RV rental in Heathrow, you'll pay through RVezy's secure checkout using a credit or debit card, and the funds are held safely until your trip begins. A refundable security deposit is placed on your card before pickup (the amount is set by the host and shown at checkout), and it's released after drop-off assuming no damage or extra fees like generator hours or mileage overage. Pro tip: do a thorough photo and video walkaround with your host at both pickup and drop-off, time-stamped photos are the easiest way to ensure your full deposit comes back fast.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksHow do I handle Florida's summer heat and hurricane season in an RV?
Florida summers are intense, but manageable with the right plan. Every RV rental in Heathrow comes with rooftop air conditioning, and at most full-hookup campgrounds you can run it continuously on shore power. Drive early in the morning or after 7 p.m. to dodge the worst heat and afternoon thunderstorms, and keep window shades down when parked. Hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, with peak activity August through October. Before booking summer dates, check the National Hurricane Center's outlook, and if a named storm threatens your trip, contact RVezy support to discuss options during declared emergencies. Pro tip: shoulder season (late October and April) gives you 80F days, lower humidity, and the best campground availability.
