Camping near High Springs, Florida
High Springs sits in north-central Florida along the Santa Fe River, roughly twenty miles northwest of Gainesville. The town anchors a cluster of first- and second-magnitude freshwater springs that flow at a constant seventy-two degrees year-round, making it one of the most concentrated spring-camping regions in the state. RV travelers use it as a base for paddling, tubing, snorkeling, and river-corridor day trips.
Camping options range from full-hookup private parks to state-park sites inside spring preserves. Gilchrist Blue Springs State Park contains a collection of natural springs, including a large second-magnitude spring that produces an average of 44 million gallons of water per day, with a shallow spring run of about one-quarter mile to the Santa Fe River. High Springs RV Resort and Campground and Travelers Campground offer standard RV amenities close to town, while Magnolia Loop at O'Leno State Park and the River Rise Preserve State Park Equestrian Camp put campers directly on a protected river corridor.
The area works well for families and first-time RV renters: sites are shaded, roads are flat, and the springs are the main attraction within walking distance of several campgrounds.
Things to do near High Springs
Water activities lead the itinerary. Paddling, snorkeling, and swimming are all popular at the main springhead and spring run at Gilchrist Blue Springs, and similar activities draw visitors to nearby springs along the Santa Fe River corridor. Tubing on the Ichetucknee River is a classic day trip from any High Springs base camp.
O'Leno State Park is known for the Santa Fe River sink, where the river disappears underground and re-emerges downstream at River Rise Preserve. Hiking trails, a historic suspension bridge, and equestrian routes connect the two parks, and the equestrian camp at River Rise gives horse campers direct trail access.
Downtown High Springs has antique shops, dive outfitters, and cafes within a short drive of every campground on this list.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons for RV camping. Daytime temperatures sit in the seventies and eighties, humidity drops from summer peaks, and biting insects are less aggressive. These shoulder seasons also line up with lower river levels, which improves water clarity at the springs.
Summer is peak swim season and peak crowd season. Gilchrist Blue Springs State Park has very high visitation on weekends and holidays and will close when capacity is reached; when this occurs, only registered campers will be allowed to enter. That closure rule makes a confirmed campsite valuable on hot weekends. Afternoon thunderstorms are near-daily from June through August, and Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November.
Winter is mild and comparatively dry, with cool mornings and warm afternoons. The spring water stays a constant 72 degrees year-round, which means swimming is possible any time of year for those who tolerate the contrast in air temperature. Manatees sometimes move into nearby spring runs during cold snaps.

Our first time renting an RV and we didn’t know what to expect. Delivery of the RV was prompt and Big Jeff set everything up for us. Many of the items we brought were already there for use which was really great. I’m particular about our pillows and towels so we brought those along with our toiletries but everything else was there! Fantastic experience and great service with the delivery, setup and tear down. Would highly recommend.

Meet all our expectations. Will definitely use Big Jeff for future needs.

How to book campgrounds near High Springs
State-park sites at Gilchrist Blue Springs, O'Leno, and River Rise Preserve are booked through the Florida State Parks reservation system. Gilchrist Blue Springs features 23 campsites: 16 sites for RV/tent camping with 30-amp service and seven tent-only campsites. Reservations can be made through the Florida State Parks reservations website or by calling 800-326-3521. Florida residents can book up to 11 months in advance of arrival, while non-residents can book up to 10 months in advance, and popular weekends fill the moment the window opens.
Most Florida state parks are open from 8 a.m. until sundown, 365 days a year, and campers who plan to arrive after sunset should call the park on the day of arrival to get the gate combination. Private options such as High Springs RV Resort and Campground and Travelers Campground book directly with the operator and tend to have more last-minute availability.
What to expect on-site
State-park campgrounds in this region are rustic by design. Amenities at Gilchrist Blue Springs include a concession, picnic facilities with tables and grills, and campsites with a picnic table, ground grill, and nearby restrooms. Electric service is 30-amp only, so larger Class A rigs with 50-amp needs should confirm hookups before booking or plan to use an adapter and manage load.
Cell coverage can be limited in the more remote park areas, so bringing paper directions and a backup plan for entry is wise. Bug spray is useful from spring through fall.
Sites tend to be sandy and shaded by live oaks and pines. Leveling blocks are useful, and campers sharing bathhouses with day-use visitors should expect busy facilities on summer weekends.

The State of Florida does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or special endorsement for personal-use motorhomes or travel trailers, even larger Class A rigs. RVezy applies a built-in cancellation policy to every reservation, so refund rules are consistent across all hosts and are not set by individual hosts. Yes, many hosts offer a pet-friendly RV rental in High Springs, and you can filter for pet-welcoming listings directly on RVezy. High Springs is great dog country: O'Leno State Park allows leashed dogs on most trails and in the campground, Poe Springs Park welcomes leashed pets in picnic areas, and the Santa Fe River trails are perfect for sniff-walks. Florida State Parks do not allow pets in designated swim areas, so plan to splash at private spots where dog policies allow. Message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee (commonly $25 to $75 per trip) and you're all set.

Delivery fees typically run $2 to $4 per mile from the host's location, and many hosts offer flat-rate delivery within 20 miles of downtown High Springs. Filter for Delivery on RVezy to see who offers it.

St. Augustine's historic district is about 90 miles east (under 2 hours), Cedar Key on the Gulf Coast is roughly 60 miles southwest (about 1 hour 15 minutes), Ocala National Forest is about 70 miles south, and Suwannee River State Park is about 55 miles northwest. For longer hauls, Pensacola Beach is around 380 miles west and the Florida Keys are about 430 miles south. Some hosts offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, ideal for multi-stop trips. Always confirm the mileage policy on the listing before you book.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=High%20Springs%2C%20FloridaWhat are the best campgrounds near High Springs for RV camping?

For a nearby state park gem, try Gilchrist Blue Springs State Park, about 8 miles away. Pro tip: Florida State Park sites open for booking 11 months in advance and the popular ones go fast.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/oleno-state-parkWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip in High Springs?
The sweet spot for RV camping in High Springs is October through April, when daytime temperatures sit in a comfortable 65 to 78 degree Fahrenheit range and humidity drops. Spring (March through early May) is excellent for paddling the Santa Fe River, while fall offers thinner crowds at Ginnie Springs and crisp mornings at O'Leno State Park. Summer (June through September) is hot and humid, often into the low to mid 90s with afternoon thunderstorms, but the 72-degree springs are perfect for cooling off. Winter is mild with rare frosts and few bugs. Insider tip: visit on a weekday in early November and the springs are noticeably quieter.
weather.gov/jax/I have never rented an RV before. Will I be okay in High Springs?
High Springs is one of the easier places in Florida for a first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host provides a complete walkthrough at pickup, showing you how to operate slide-outs, water systems, generator, AC, and dump valves, and many provide a cheat sheet. The roads around High Springs are flat, traffic is light outside Gainesville, and major campgrounds like O'Leno and Ginnie Springs have wide, easy-to-navigate sites. If you'd rather skip driving entirely, choose a host with delivery and they'll bring the rig to your campsite. You can also message any host through their listing before booking, and most reply within a few hours.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat if I have a breakdown or emergency during my High Springs RV trip?
Help is close at hand. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, covering jump-starts, tire changes, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing when needed. One phone call connects you to a dispatcher who can send help to wherever you are, whether that's I-75, a quiet road near the Santa Fe River, or your campsite at Ginnie Springs. North Central Florida also has RV-friendly service shops in Gainesville (about 20 miles south), including Camping World and several mobile RV technicians. Your host is also a message away for rig-specific questions. Save the roadside number in your phone before pickup for added peace of mind.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my High Springs RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate road trips are on the table. From High Springs you can explore Georgia (the Okefenokee Swamp is about 90 miles north), the Carolinas, or follow I-10 west into Alabama and beyond. Travel into Canada is typically allowed with host approval, provided your protection plan supports it. RVezy rentals cannot travel into Mexico, as insurance and protection coverage does not extend across that border. Always message the host before booking if you're planning a long out-of-state route so they can confirm and adjust the mileage policy if needed. A classic loop from High Springs follows the Gulf Coast through Pensacola, into New Orleans, and back, an unforgettable journey.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I plan for?
Class C motorhomes typically get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, Class A motorhomes around 6 to 10 mpg, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10 to 14 mpg towing). Gas prices in High Springs and Alachua County tend to track close to the Florida state average, with affordable stations often found along US-441. For a typical 4-day trip with 300 miles of driving in a Class C, plan on roughly $120 to $180 in fuel based on current pump prices. Pro tip: fill up before heading into state parks, since the nearest pumps to Ginnie Springs and O'Leno are 10 or more minutes away.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near High Springs?
Booking ahead is smart, especially in spring and fall. Florida State Parks like O'Leno open reservations exactly 11 months in advance through ReserveAmerica, and popular sites at Ginnie Springs Outdoors can fill 3 to 6 months out for summer weekends and holidays. For private parks like High Springs RV Resort & Campground, 4 to 6 weeks ahead is usually enough outside major holidays. If you're traveling on a weekday or in shoulder season (late September or January), you can often grab a great site with about a week's notice. Insider tip: midweek arrivals at O'Leno State Park often have openings even when weekends are booked solid.
floridastateparks.org/learn/reservation-informationWhat is driving an RV like around High Springs?
Driving here is low-stress. High Springs sits on flat North Central Florida terrain with wide, straight roads and light traffic outside Gainesville to the south. I-75 runs just east of town for north-south travel, and US-27/US-41 cuts through downtown for local trips. Watch for occasional afternoon thunderstorms from June through September (they pass quickly), and note that some smaller roads leading to Ginnie Springs and Poe Springs have low-hanging oak branches, so confirm your RV's height (most rigs are 10 to 13 feet) before turning onto Poe Springs Road. Local tip: avoid US-441 near Gainesville on Florida Gators home football Saturdays from late August through November.
fdot.gov/What amenities can I expect at High Springs area campgrounds?
You'll find a strong mix of options. Most private RV parks near High Springs offer full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, and sewer), while state park sites typically have water and 30-amp electric with a central dump station. Ginnie Springs Outdoors has water and electric at most RV sites plus a general store, while O'Leno State Park provides hot showers, restrooms, and a dump station near the campground exit. For fresh water and dumping between stops, High Springs RV Resort & Campground and Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park (about 45 minutes north) both offer services. WiFi quality varies, so plan to use cell data (Verizon and AT&T both have strong coverage in the area) for streaming.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/oleno-state-parkWhat features and amenities will my High Springs rental RV have?
A typical motorhome rental in High Springs comes ready for adventure with a queen or king bed, a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control with air conditioning and heat, and seatbelted seats for travel. Many rigs include a TV, some offer WiFi or cell boosters, and many come with outdoor essentials like camp chairs, an awning, and a hose kit. Generators are common in Class A and Class C motorhomes for off-grid use at the springs. Each RVezy listing shows exactly what's included, with photos, sleep count, and a full amenity checklist. A campervan rental in High Springs is also a great pick if you want easier driving and parking at smaller spring access points.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=High%20Springs%2C%20FloridaWhat add-ons and options can I get with my RV rental in High Springs?
Hosts offer useful extras to make your trip easier. Popular add-ons include camping chairs and tables ($10 to $25), bedding and linen kits ($25 to $50), kitchen kits with pots and dishes ($25 to $40), generators ($20 to $40 per day), bike racks, kayak racks (perfect for the Santa Fe River), and propane fills. Pickup is usually at the host's home in or near High Springs, with most offering a flexible 2 to 4 hour window. Mileage policies vary by listing, with many hosts offering 100 to 150 free miles per day and additional miles at $0.30 to $0.50 each, while some offer unlimited mileage packages perfect for longer Florida road trips. Always check the listing's add-on section before booking.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=High%20Springs%2C%20FloridaHow does payment and the security deposit work for my High Springs RV rental?
Payment is simple and secure. When you book on RVezy, you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card, with no cash exchange directly with the host. A security deposit is held separately from the booking payment (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV), and the hold is released after the trip ends cleanly, usually within a few days of dropoff. To avoid deposit issues, return the RV with the fuel and propane levels noted at pickup, empty the holding tanks at a dump station (or pay the dump fee, often $25 to $50), and give it a quick interior sweep. Do the pre-trip walkthrough with your host and take date-stamped photos of any existing scratches for a smooth deposit return.
