Campgrounds and RV parks near Hill 'n Dale, FL

The main draw is Withlacoochee State Forest, which surrounds the area on multiple tracts. The World Wildlife Fund named the forest one of the 10 Coolest Places You've Never Been in North America, and it offers miles of trails for hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, and paddling. The Croom Motorcycle Area adds off-road riding for ATV and dirt-bike enthusiasts on 2,600 acres reserved for off-highway vehicles. Water-based activities are close at hand. The Withlacoochee and Little Withlacoochee rivers, both designated Outstanding Florida Waters, offer canopy-covered paddling routes, and Silver Lake within the Croom Tract provides fishing and boating access. Family-friendly stops include the historic downtown of Brooksville, the Withlacoochee State Trail for cycling, and day trips south to Tampa attractions.

The area follows a classic peninsular-Florida pattern: warm dry winters and hot, wet summers. The best time to visit is January through April and November through December, when humidity drops and daytime highs are comfortable for hiking, paddling, and evenings around a fire ring. Snowbird demand is heaviest from January through March, and full-hookup resorts like Clover Leaf Forest RV Resort book far in advance for that window. Late spring brings rising heat and the start of the afternoon thunderstorm season. July is typically the wettest month, and the air can feel uncomfortably humid during the summer months from May to October. Summer camping is still viable for those with air conditioning and flexible plans, but expect near-daily storms. Hurricane season runs June through November, peaking in September. The Florida Forest Service closes all state forest campgrounds and recreation areas when the county is placed under a tropical storm or hurricane warning by the National Weather Service, and reservations are automatically refunded for closures related to tropical weather.

Site styles vary widely across the area. Full-hookup resorts such as Clover Leaf Forest RV Resort offer 30- and 50-amp electric, pull-through sites, a heated pool, and planned activities, which suits big rigs and longer stays. Farm Of Dreams Resort and Campers Holiday Travel Park lean toward the same full-service style with laundry, showers, and dump stations. State forest sites are more rustic, with water and electric hookups and a quieter, wooded feel under dense hardwood and pine canopy. Silver Lake Campground sits within the Croom Tract a short drive from I-75, and some road noise may carry into the area. Sertoma Youth Ranch Campground offers water and 30-amp electric sites with a dump station on site for an additional fee, plus primitive tent areas under oak canopy.
