Campgrounds and RV parks near Keystone, FL

The Keystone area is defined by lakes, ranches, and quick access to both Tampa and the Gulf. Local roads lead to paddling and fishing on the Keystone chain of lakes, while a short drive west reaches Honeymoon Island, Caladesi Island, and the Clearwater beaches. Guests at Bay Bayou RV Resort or Clearwater / Lake Tarpon KOA Holiday are within easy range of the coast for a beach day. Inland day trips include Busch Gardens, ZooTampa at Lowry Park, and the Florida Aquarium in downtown Tampa. About 30 minutes northeast, Hillsborough River State Park offers some of Florida's only Class II river rapids, seven miles of nature trails, a suspension bridge, a swimming pool, and the reconstructed Fort Foster.

The Tampa Bay region has two clear seasons that shape any RV trip. There are two basic seasons, a hot and wet season from May through October, and a mild and dry season from November through April. Winter and early spring form the peak booking window, when snowbirds fill private resorts and daytime highs are comfortable for outdoor activity. Late spring is warm and mostly dry, with rain patterns shifting through June. Nearly two-thirds of the annual precipitation falls in the months of June through September, so afternoon thunderstorms are routine and low-lying campsites can flood briefly. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, and activity in the Gulf typically peaks August through October. Fall cools slowly. November is climatologically the driest month of the year, with lower humidity that makes for a favorable window for longer stays. Regional burn bans are possible during dry stretches, so check Hillsborough County advisories before planning a campfire.

Keystone itself is residential and rural rather than a town center, so groceries, fuel, propane, and dump stations are found along the nearby Veterans Expressway and in Odessa, Citrus Park, and Oldsmar. Cell service is generally strong across the area, and most private resorts offer full hookups including 30 and 50 amp service, sewer, and Wi-Fi of varying quality. Expect humid conditions much of the year, frequent afternoon thunderstorms in summer, and mosquitoes near lakes and wetlands. Alligators live in most freshwater bodies, so keep pets leashed and away from shorelines. County and state park sites tend to be shaded and more rustic with length limits, while private resorts around Keystone typically offer paved pads, pools, and laundry. Confirm site dimensions before arrival with a larger rig.
