Campgrounds near Lockhart, Florida
Lockhart is an unincorporated community in Orange County, just northwest of downtown Orlando and inside the metro area served by Florida's Turnpike, Interstate 4, and State Road 429. RV travelers use it as a base for the Orlando theme parks while staying outside the tourist corridor, with Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, and SeaWorld all reachable in roughly 20 to 40 minutes by road depending on traffic.
The area offers a mix of full-hookup private RV resorts and access to central Florida's spring-fed state parks. Nearby options include Lost Lake RV Resort, Florida Park Orlando, Orlando NW / Orange Blossom KOA Journey, Winter Garden RV Resort, and Stage Stop Campground. Public land nearby includes Wekiwa Springs State Park, which offers swimming, canoeing, and kayaking in clear springs a short drive from Lockhart.
Grocery, fuel, RV service, and big-box retail are all within a short drive, which makes Lockhart practical for families balancing park days with resupply and downtime at camp.
Things to do near Lockhart
Theme parks anchor most itineraries: Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, and SeaWorld are the major draws, with Legoland Florida to the southwest and Gatorland just south of Orlando. Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex sits about an hour east on Merritt Island for a full-day trip.
For time outside the parks, Wekiwa Springs State Park offers swimming, paddling, and hiking in a spring-fed setting. Kelly Park / Rock Springs is a popular tubing run north of Lockhart. Blue Spring State Park, roughly 30 miles north in Orange City, is a known manatee refuge during the cooler months and also offers hiking trails and picnic areas.
In town, Orlando Science Center, Lake Eola Park with its swan boats, and the Central Florida Zoo and Botanical Gardens in Sanford round out family-friendly options.

Central Florida runs on two broad seasons: a warm, dry stretch from late fall through spring, and a hot, wet, thunderstorm-heavy summer. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel, with mild days and cooler nights. Winter is the peak snowbird season, and private RV resorts in the Orlando area fill early with long-stay guests from roughly December through March.
Summers are long, hot, and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms nearly every day from June through August. June through September are typically the wettest months, while November is the driest. Freezing nights occur once or twice in a typical winter, but hard freezes are rare.
Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, with peak activity from mid-August through October. Orlando is inland, so wind risk is lower than on the coasts, but storms can still bring heavy rain, wind, and campground closures. Check park status before travel during that window.

How to book
Private RV parks around Lockhart, including Lost Lake RV Resort, Winter Garden RV Resort, Stage Stop Campground, Florida Park Orlando, and Orlando NW / Orange Blossom KOA Journey, take reservations directly on their own websites or by phone. For winter stays, book several months out, since snowbird demand fills sites well in advance.
For Florida State Parks such as Wekiwa Springs and Blue Spring, reservations run through the Florida State Parks reservations website or by calling 800-326-3521. Florida residents can book campsites and cabins up to 11 months in advance, and non-residents up to 10 months in advance. Campsites and cabins not reserved may be rented walk-in on a first-come, first-served basis.
Maximum stay in a state park is generally 14 nights, with a cap of 56 nights of total occupancy in any one park within each defined six-month period.
What to expect on the ground
Most private parks near Lockhart offer full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service, water, sewer, laundry, restrooms, and Wi-Fi. Larger resorts add pools, clubhouses, and organized activities such as potlucks and shuffleboard, with a heavy 55-plus population through the winter months. Pet-friendly sites are common, but confirm breed and size rules at booking.
State park campgrounds trade resort amenities for setting: expect back-in sites under oaks and pines, water and electric hookups, a dump station, and quieter neighbors, with fewer pull-through options for larger rigs.
Plan for warm-weather essentials year-round, including insect repellent, sunscreen, and rain gear. Sites are generally level, but confirm big-rig length limits and low branches when booking, especially at older parks and state park loops.

No commercial driver's license or RV endorsement is required for the Class A, Class C, campervan, travel trailer, and fifth-wheel rentals on RVezy. Approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID directly in the platform during checkout, so there is no extra paperwork or DMV visit. Visiting from abroad? help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if my Lockhart RV trip plans change? Can I cancel?
Your booking is more flexible than you might think. RVezy sets a standard cancellation policy for every RV rental in Lockhart, FL (not the individual host), and it includes a money-back grace period right after booking so you are not locked in the moment you confirm. Beyond that window, the refund amount depends on how close you are to your trip start date. If a host has to cancel, RVezy will help you rebook or issue a refund or travel credit. Pro tip: book early to lock in your dates and rig, knowing RVezy's cancellation policy and 24/7 support are behind you.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I find a pet-friendly RV rental in Lockhart, FL?
Yes, pet-friendly RV rental Lockhart options are everywhere on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on the search page and you'll see rigs whose owners welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) along for the adventure. Many Central Florida campgrounds near Lockhart are pet-friendly too, including Orlando NW/Orange Blossom KOA in nearby Apopka with its Kamp K9 dog park, and Wekiwa Springs State Park where leashed dogs can join you on the wooded trails (just not in the springs themselves). Pro tip: nearby Lake Lotus Park in Altamonte Springs has shaded boardwalks that are perfect for a morning dog walk before the Florida heat kicks in.
floridastateparks.org/learn/pets-florida-state-parksCan the RV be delivered to my campground or vacation rental in Lockhart, FL?
Yes, RV delivery Lockhart is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it's a game-changer for first-timers. Many hosts will drive the RV right to your campground, Airbnb driveway, or even a Disney-area resort that allows it, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Use the Delivery filter when searching to see hosts who offer this service. Delivery fees are set by each host and usually scale with distance, so a drop at Wekiwa Springs State Park (about 10 miles away) will cost less than one at Disney's Fort Wilderness. Pro tip: ask about setup-only delivery if you'd rather not drive a big rig through Orlando traffic.
visitorlando.com/things-to-do/outdoors/camping/How far can I travel from Lockhart on an RV trip, and is unlimited mileage available?
You can roam all over Florida from Lockhart, and yes, RV rental with unlimited mileage is offered by plenty of hosts on RVezy (just filter for it). Each host sets their own daily mileage allowance, with the typical included amount falling between 100 and 150 miles per day and a small per-mile fee beyond that. From Lockhart you're perfectly positioned for a Florida RV road trip: Cocoa Beach and Kennedy Space Center are about 60 miles east, Tampa is roughly 90 miles southwest, St. Augustine sits 110 miles north, and the Florida Keys are a doable 350-mile southern haul. Pro tip: if you're planning anything beyond a short loop, message the host before booking to negotiate a mileage package up front.
fdot.gov/agencytourismWhere are the best campgrounds near Lockhart, FL?
You are spoiled for choice on RV camping near Lockhart. Wekiwa Springs State Park (about 10 miles north in Apopka) offers 60 shaded sites with water and electric, plus crystal-clear swimming springs. Orlando NW/Orange Blossom KOA in Apopka is a family favorite, with a pool, Kamp K9, and big-rig pull-throughs. Moss Park on the southeast side of Orange County sits between two lakes and is great for fishing. Clarcona Resort RV Park is just minutes from Lockhart if you want full hookups close to town, and Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort is about 25 miles south for theme-park trips. Pro tip: Wekiwa Springs books up months out, so reserve early through the Florida State Parks site.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/wekiwa-springs-state-parkWhen is the best time to take an RV trip from Lockhart, FL?
The sweet spot for an RV trip from Lockhart is mid-October through April, when daytime highs sit comfortably in the 70s and 80s, humidity drops, and the mosquitoes back off. This is also Florida's dry season, so you'll dodge the daily afternoon thunderstorms that define June through September (when highs regularly hit 90 to 95 degrees with thick humidity). Snowbird season peaks January and February, so book campgrounds extra early then. Pro tip: shoulder months like late October, November, and early March give you near-perfect weather AND lower nightly rates on your RV rental Florida adventure, especially around Lockhart and the Orlando metro.
weather.gov/mlb/climateI have never rented an RV before. Is Lockhart a good place to start?
Lockhart is one of the easiest places in Florida to try an RV for the first time. Roads are flat, the weather is mostly forgiving, and your host will give you a full walkthrough at pickup covering the generator, slide-outs, water systems, propane, and dump procedure so you are never left guessing. If driving a big rig through Orlando traffic sounds intimidating, filter for hosts offering RV delivery in Lockhart and they will bring it directly to your campsite. RVezy support is available 24/7 if you have a question mid-trip. Pro tip: book a Class C motorhome or smaller travel trailer for your first time renting an RV; they drive more like a large van.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if I break down during my Lockhart RV trip?
You are covered. Every RVezy booking in Lockhart, FL includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on I-4, a dead battery at the campground, or a tow off the Florida Turnpike is a single phone call away. You will also have a direct line to your host, who knows the rig best and can troubleshoot things like a tripped breaker or a finicky slide-out in minutes. RVezy's support team is reachable around the clock for anything bigger. Pro tip: snap a photo of the roadside assistance number and your host's number at pickup so you have them handy even if cell service dips on a rural stretch heading toward Ocala.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Lockhart RV rental across state lines or into Canada or Mexico?
Cross-country trips inside the U.S. are usually fine with a quick conversation first. Most hosts are happy to let you cross state lines for an RV road trip from Lockhart to Georgia, the Carolinas, or up the East Coast; confirm with your host before booking so the route is noted on your reservation. Canada travel depends on the host and the protection plan, so message the host directly before booking. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because the insurance and protection coverage do not extend there. Pro tip: the Savannah, GA run is a beautiful drive up I-95 and a popular multi-day route from Lockhart.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage and budget should I plan for in Lockhart?
Realistic expectations make budgeting easier. Class C motorhomes around Lockhart average 8 to 10 mpg, Class A's run closer to 6 to 8 mpg, and a campervan rental Lockhart (Class B) can stretch to 15 to 18 mpg. Towable trailers don't burn fuel themselves but typically drop your tow vehicle's mileage by 30 to 40 percent. Florida gas prices generally track close to the national average, and Lockhart sits right by US-441 with plenty of stations including Wawa, RaceTrac, and Buc-ee's down in Daytona Beach. Pro tip: fuel up before entering theme park zones (Lake Buena Vista) where prices spike, and use GasBuddy to find the cheapest pumps along your route.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Lockhart?
For the best campgrounds near Lockhart, plan ahead, especially in peak season. Florida State Parks like Wekiwa Springs and Blue Spring open reservations 11 months in advance through the official Florida State Parks reservation system (ReserveAmerica), and prime winter weekends sell out within minutes. Disney's Fort Wilderness opens bookings 499 days out and weekends near holidays go fast. Private parks like Orlando NW/Orange Blossom KOA usually have more flexibility but still book up 2 to 3 months ahead from January through March. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder exactly 11 months before your target arrival date for state parks, log in right at 8 a.m. Eastern, and you'll grab the riverside sites everyone wants.
floridastateparks.org/learn/reservation-informationWhat are driving conditions like around Lockhart, FL?
Driving an RV around Lockhart is genuinely beginner-friendly: terrain is flat, roads are wide, and elevation gains are basically nonexistent. The main thing to plan around is Orlando's rush hour on I-4 (7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m.) and summer afternoon thunderstorms that can drop visibility fast between 2 and 5 p.m. from June through September. Watch for the 13.5-foot Florida height limit at older bridges and theme park parking structures (most ban RVs entirely; use designated bus/RV lots at Disney and Universal instead). Hurricane season runs June through November, so check the National Hurricane Center forecast before long trips. Pro tip: skirt downtown Orlando using SR-414 (Maitland Boulevard) and SR-429, which are RV-friendly toll roads.
nhc.noaa.gov/What amenities should I expect at campgrounds near Lockhart?
Most campgrounds near Lockhart are well-equipped for RVs. Private parks like Orlando NW/Orange Blossom KOA and Mill Creek RV Resort offer full hookups (30 and 50 amp electric, water, and sewer at the site), pools, laundry, Wi-Fi, and dump stations. Florida State Parks like Wekiwa Springs provide water and electric at the site plus a centralized dump station and bath houses. Public dump stations along I-4 and US-441 are easy to find via the SaniDumps or RV Dump Stations apps, and most major truck stops near Lockhart (like the Pilot in Apopka) have potable water fills. Pro tip: ask your campground in advance about their max RV length, especially at older state parks where some sites cap at 30 feet.
floridastateparks.org/rv-campingWhat's inside a typical motorhome rental Lockhart? Beds, kitchen, bathroom?
You're getting a full home on wheels. A typical motorhome rental Lockhart on RVezy includes sleeping for 4 to 8 (queen bed, convertible dinette, and often bunks or a cab-over), a kitchen with fridge/freezer, microwave, propane stove, and sink, and a full bathroom with toilet, shower, and sink. Most rigs include air conditioning (a must for Florida), a TV, and seatbelted seating for everyone traveling. Many hosts also offer Wi-Fi hotspots, onboard generators, and outdoor speakers as add-ons. Listings show photos and an amenities checklist, so you'll know exactly what's onboard. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count to match your group, and confirm seatbelt count separately since not every sleeping spot doubles as a travel seat.
flhsmv.gov/safety-center/child-safety/child-restraint-requirements/What add-ons and pickup options are available with a Lockhart RV rental?
Hosts in Lockhart offer some genuinely useful add-ons to make your trip smoother. Popular extras include kitchen kits (pots, pans, plates), linen and towel packages, camping chairs and outdoor mats, generators, bike racks, portable grills, and Wi-Fi hotspots; fees are usually $20 to $75 each and listed right on the booking page. Pickup is typically at the host's home in or near Lockhart, with delivery available throughout the Orlando metro for an additional fee. Mileage policies vary by host, with many offering 100 to 150 free miles per day and unlimited mileage options on select rigs. Pro tip: bundle add-ons at booking rather than asking later, since most hosts pre-load and clean these items as part of trip prep.
visitorlando.com/things-to-do/outdoors/How does payment and the security deposit work when I rent an RV in Lockhart?
Payment is simple and entirely handled through RVezy, so you never hand cash or a check to a host. You pay the trip total (rental, fees, and protection plan) by credit or debit card at booking, and the host receives funds only after your trip starts. A separate security deposit hold is placed on your card before pickup (amount varies by rig) and released after dropoff once the RV is returned in the agreed condition. Pro tip: at pickup, walk around with the host and take timestamped photos of every exterior panel, the interior, and the odometer; it is the single best way to ensure a smooth deposit release after your Lockhart RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park an RV in Lockhart overnight if I'm not at a campground?
You've got options. Lockhart sits in unincorporated Orange County, which has no countywide overnight street parking ban, though individual HOAs and neighborhoods often restrict it, so always check posted signs. For a single overnight transit stop, several Walmart, Cracker Barrel, and Cabela's locations along US-441 and I-4 traditionally allow one-night RV parking with manager permission (arrive late, leave early, no awnings out). For anything longer, head to a proper campground like Clarcona Resort, Orlando NW/Orange Blossom KOA, or Wekiwa Springs State Park. Florida law also caps RV parking in residential driveways at 72 hours. Pro tip: the Bass Pro Shops in Orlando off I-4 is a well-known overnight-friendly stop with easy big-rig access.
