Campgrounds and RV parks near Manatee Road, FL

Manatee Road runs through rural Levy County in Florida's Nature Coast region, just west of Chiefland and a short drive from the Suwannee River and the Gulf of Mexico. The area is best known as the access route to Manatee Springs State Park, a first-magnitude spring that discharges roughly 100 million gallons of water per day into a run that joins the Suwannee River. Campers have a mix of state park and private options within a short drive. Manatee Springs RV Park and Southern Leisure RV Resort sit closest, while Suwannee River Hideaway offers riverfront sites in Old Town about a dozen miles north. Strawberry Fields For RV'ers rounds out the nearby private options for travelers seeking full hookups and quieter, long-haul-friendly stays. The surrounding landscape is flat cypress swamp, hardwood hammock, and spring-fed river, with easy access to swimming holes, paddling launches, and the paved Nature Coast State Trail. Winter draws manatees into the warm spring waters, making the cooler months the peak season for wildlife viewing.

Manatee Springs State Park uses the Florida State Parks reservation system, bookable online at reserve.floridastateparks.org or by phone. Florida residents can reserve up to 11 months in advance and non-residents up to 10 months, and popular weekends fill quickly, especially in winter. The campground has 80 sites across three loops (Magnolia 1, Magnolia 2, and Hickory), with electric and water at every site, a limited number of full-hookup sites in Magnolia 1, and a dump station on property. Maximum RV length is 40 feet, and only select sites accommodate the longest rigs. Private parks in the area, including Suwannee River Hideaway, Southern Leisure RV Resort, and Strawberry Fields For RV'ers, take reservations directly through their own websites or phone lines. Snowbird demand runs high from January through March, so booking several months out is advised for extended winter stays.
