Campgrounds and RV parks near Neptune Beach, FL

The Talbot Islands are the main outdoor draw. Little Talbot Island State Park offers more than five miles of shoreline of undeveloped Atlantic beach and 7 miles of mixed-use trails and one ADA compliant boardwalk for hikers, bikers, and birdwatchers. Beachcombing, surfing, fishing, birdwatching, and kayaking along Myrtle Creek are all standard activities, and a canoe/kayak launch is available near a short dock into Myrtle Creek. Closer to town, the Neptune Beach and Atlantic Beach shoreline is walkable and family-friendly, with restaurants and shops within a few blocks of the sand. Cyclists can pick up the paved multi-use path that runs from Little Talbot to Big Talbot Island. Inland, the Jacksonville area adds the Jacksonville Zoo, the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens, and the Museum of Science and History for rainy-day plans.

Northeast Florida has a humid subtropical climate with hot, wet summers and mild winters. Spring tends to be the driest season, while summer brings heavy afternoon thunderstorms and the highest rainfall totals of the year, with June typically the wettest month. Freezing weather is uncommon and typically limited to a handful of nights between December and February. Late fall through early spring is the most comfortable stretch for RV camping: daytime highs are moderate, humidity drops, and biting insects are less active. This window also overlaps with the Florida snowbird season, so private resorts near I-95 fill up with longer-stay guests and monthly bookings. Hurricane season officially runs from June through November, with peak activity in August, September, and early October. Coastal sites at Little Talbot Island can also flood at very high tides: a high tide of 6.5 feet put the entire road in front of sites 34, 35 and 36 and one side of 37 under salt water, so tent campers should check tide tables before booking those numbers. Burn bans may occasionally suspend campfires during dry stretches.

At Little Talbot Island State Park, campsites include 20- and 30-amp electricity, fresh water, fire ring and picnic table. The campground includes two bathhouses with hot showers. Both restroom facilities are ADA accessible. A dump station is available at the campground exit for RV campers. A laundry facility is on site, and sites sit in a maritime hammock of live oaks, American holly, and Southern magnolias. Winding tidal creeks border the western edge of the campground where a canoe/kayak launch is available near a short dock into Myrtle Creek. Private resorts near I-95 tend to be paved, level, and big-rig friendly. Pecan Park has a swimming pool, a lake that's stocked with fish, and open sites, plus Wi-Fi, cable TV, and laundry facilities. Some sites at Pecan Park sit under the flight path of Jacksonville International Airport, so light-sleeping campers may want to request sites toward the back.
