Panama City camping overview
Panama City sits on Florida's Northwest Gulf Coast, with St. Andrew Bay separating the city from the Panama City Beach peninsula. RV campgrounds in the area cluster along the barrier island and the US-98 corridor, offering fast access to Gulf beaches, Grand Lagoon, and Shell Island.
The closest public option is St. Andrews State Park, a 1,200-acre state park located around three miles east of Panama City Beach. The campground sits on a peninsula where the Gulf of Mexico meets St. Andrew Bay and Grand Lagoon, with two loops winding through mature pinewoods, offering 176 sites with full hookups including 30- and 50-amp electric, water, and sewer connections.
Private RV parks round out the options. Venture Out Panama City Beach, Panama City Beach RV Resort, Sun Outdoors Panama City Beach, and Panama City Beach KOA cover the range from full-service resort stays to family-oriented parks with pools, cabins, and pull-through sites for larger rigs.
Things to do near Panama City
The Gulf beaches are the main draw. St. Andrews State Park has miles of white sand shoreline, two fishing piers with saltwater access, and a shuttle service to undeveloped Shell Island for snorkeling and shelling, plus calm Grand Lagoon waters ideal for paddling and wildlife viewing that includes herons, ospreys, and dolphins.
Inside the park, two nature trails wind through diverse coastal plants, with opportunities to spot migratory birds and butterflies, and visitors can also look for alligators at the Gator Lake Trail and Overlook. Off-park, families head to Pier Park for dining and shopping, Shipwreck Island Waterpark, Gulf World Marine Park, and the trail network at Panama City Beach Conservation Park. Deep-sea fishing charters run out of the Grand Lagoon marinas.

Panama City experiences a humid subtropical climate, characterized by hot summers and cool winters with a strong seasonal contrast. Peak RV demand runs from spring break through mid-August, and again during snowbird season from January through March. Sites at St. Andrews State Park are typically the first to sell out.
Summers are particularly wet, often bringing heavy seasonal downpours or afternoon thunderstorms during the warmer months, while spring tends to be the driest season. Morning beach time and afternoon indoor plans are the standard summer rhythm.
The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30, and the greatest risk along the Gulf falls in August and September. Late September through early November brings warm Gulf water, thinner crowds, and easier campsite availability, making fall a strong shoulder-season window for RV travellers who watch the tropics carefully.
Booking campgrounds near Panama City
State-park sites use the Florida State Parks reservation system. Florida residents can book campsites up to 11 months in advance, while non-residents can book up to 10 months in advance. Reservations are available via reserve.floridastateparks.org or by phone. Popular waterfront loops at St. Andrews State Park book out at the opening window, especially for holiday weekends and spring break.
Private parks such as Venture Out Panama City Beach, Panama City Beach RV Resort, Sun Outdoors Panama City Beach, and Panama City Beach KOA take reservations directly through their websites or by phone. KOA generally advises booking early for peak seasons, and the Panama City Beach KOA offers RV sites, tent sites, and cabins. Refundable rates are useful during hurricane season.
What to expect on the ground
Expect coastal humidity, sandy pads, and short drives between camp and beach. At St. Andrews State Park, each site includes a concrete pad, picnic table, and ground grill with fire ring, and the campground accommodates everything from tents to RVs up to 50 feet in length, with both back-in and pull-through sites available. Amenities include five bathhouses with hot showers, three of which are ADA accessible, plus laundry facilities and a dump station.
Some campers note tight site spacing and the need to book months ahead due to popularity. Wildlife sightings are common, with deer often approaching campsites. Private resorts tend to have wider sites, pools, and dog parks, but less shade than the state park's pinewoods.

Use the Delivery filter to see hosts who offer this service, and check each listing for the delivery radius and fee. Pro tip: delivery is a game-changer if you're flying into Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport (ECP), which sits just 20 minutes north of the beach.

floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/st-andrews-state-parkWhen is the best time to rent an RV in Panama City, FL?
The sweet spot for an RV rental in Panama City FL is March through May and October through November, when daytime highs sit in the comfortable 70s to low 80s, humidity is lower, and rainfall is at its lightest (May is actually the driest month). Summer (June through August) brings 88 to 91 degree highs, daily afternoon thunderstorms, and peak crowds, but it's also prime beach and Gulf swim season. Winter is mild with highs in the mid-60s, making it popular with snowbirds. Pro tip: shoulder seasons mean lower nightly RV rates, easier campground bookings, and fewer summer-storm interruptions during your beach days.
weather.gov/tae/I have never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving one in Panama City?
You have got this, and Panama City is one of the easier places in Florida for first time renting an RV. Roads like Highway 98, Back Beach Road, and Thomas Drive are wide and flat, with no mountains or tight switchbacks. Every RVezy host walks you through the RV at pickup, covering everything from leveling jacks to the holding tanks, and you can ask questions before booking right inside the listing. If you would rather skip the drive entirely, choose a host who offers delivery and setup at your campground. Pro tip: start with a Class C motorhome or a travel trailer under 25 feet for easy maneuvering through Panama City Beach's beachfront resorts and gas stations.

RVezy's support team backs you up before, during, and after the trip. Pro tip: save the roadside number to your phone before you leave the host's driveway, then enjoy your Emerald Coast adventure with peace of mind.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best road trip destinations from Panama City, FL?
An RV road trip from Panama City opens up some of the South's most scenic drives. Popular routes include the 30A coastal loop through Seaside and Rosemary Beach (about 40 minutes west), Apalachicola and the oyster coast (about 65 miles east), Pensacola Beach and Gulf Islands National Seashore (about 100 miles west), Tallahassee and the nearby springs region (about 100 miles east), and a longer haul to New Orleans (about 370 miles). Cross-border travel into Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals, but the entire US Gulf Coast is fair game. Pro tip: take Highway 98 instead of Interstate 10 for a slower, prettier drive past sugar-white dunes, fishing villages, and roadside seafood shacks.
visitflorida.com/What should I budget for fuel on a Panama City RV trip?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable in your budget, but it is easy to plan for. Florida gas prices typically run close to the national average, and most Class C motorhomes near Panama City get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, while travel trailers do not burn fuel themselves (your tow vehicle's MPG is what matters). For a typical 200-mile weekend loop to Seaside or Apalachicola, expect roughly $60 to $90 in fuel for a motorhome. Fill up inland on Highway 231 or 77 where prices are often a bit lower than the beach strip. Pro tip: download a fuel price app before you leave and plan fill-ups at larger Pilot or Flying J stations off I-10 for easy RV-friendly pump access.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Panama City?
Book early and you'll thank yourself later. St. Andrews State Park opens reservations 11 months ahead for Florida residents and 10 months ahead for everyone else through the official Florida State Parks reservation system, and prime waterfront sites along Grand Lagoon sell out within minutes for summer and spring break. Private parks like Sun Outdoors Panama City Beach and Pineglen Motorcoach and RV Park typically need 2 to 4 months of lead time for peak weekends, but you can often snag mid-week sites just a few weeks out. Pro tip: if your dates are full, use a free cancellation-alert service or check the state parks site at 8 a.m. daily, when cancellations are released and you can grab a freshly opened spot.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/st-andrews-state-parkWhat are driving conditions like around Panama City for an RV?
Driving an RV around Panama City is refreshingly easy: the terrain is pancake-flat, roads are wide, and there are no mountain passes or tunnels to navigate. The main routes are Highway 98 (the coastal artery), Back Beach Road (Highway 98 Alt), Thomas Drive, and Highway 231 north toward I-10. Watch for summer afternoon thunderstorms that can drop visibility quickly, sandy shoulders along beach roads, and the Hathaway Bridge over St. Andrews Bay (no height issues, but high winds occasionally). Hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, so check forecasts daily during those months. Pro tip: avoid Front Beach Road during spring break weekends if you're in a larger motorhome, and stick to Back Beach Road for stress-free travel.
fdot.gov/agencyresources/districtsoffices.shtmWhat amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Panama City?
Campgrounds near Panama City are well equipped for a comfortable stay. St. Andrews State Park offers water, electric, picnic tables, grills, restrooms, hot showers, laundry, and an on-site dump station, while private parks like Sun Outdoors Panama City Beach and Panama City Beach RV Resort add full sewer hookups, 30 and 50-amp service, Wi-Fi, heated pools, and laundry rooms. Most have on-site dump stations, and you can fill fresh water at every hookup site. For where to park an RV in Panama City overnight without a reservation, stick to designated campgrounds: city streets, beach lots, and most Walmarts in the area do not allow overnight RV parking. Pro tip: check apps like Sanidumps for backup dump stations on travel days.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/st-andrews-state-parkWhat features and amenities come with a motorhome rental Panama City hosts list?
Most motorhome rental Panama City listings come fully equipped for beach life: queen or king beds, a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave and cookware, a bathroom with hot shower, air conditioning (essential here), heat, a dining area, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many also include outdoor awnings, propane grills, beach chairs, and outdoor showers for rinsing sand off after a Gulf swim. Larger Class A and Class C motorhomes often add a generator and TV, while campervan rental Panama City options keep things minimalist and easy to park. Pro tip: filter listings by sleeps count and amenities like generator or pet-friendly to match exactly what your family needs for a stress-free trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Panama%20City%2C%20FloridaWhat add-ons and options can I get with my Panama City RV rental?
RVezy hosts in Panama City love to make your trip easier with add-ons. Common extras include kayaks and paddleboards (Grand Lagoon is calm and perfect for both), bike rentals, beach chairs and umbrellas, portable grills, generators, linen and kitchen kits, extra propane tanks, and pet packages. Many hosts also offer delivery, setup, and pickup as a flat-rate add-on so you never have to drive the RV yourself. Pickup is usually at the host's home or a nearby meeting spot, with a 30 to 60 minute orientation walkthrough included. Pro tip: bundle a few add-ons (delivery plus beach gear plus a kayak) and message the host for a package discount, especially on stays of 4 nights or longer.
visitpanamacitybeach.com/How does payment and the security deposit work when I rent an RV in Panama City?
Payment on RVezy is simple and secure: you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card when you book, never directly to the host, which keeps your trip protected. A refundable security deposit is collected separately from your booking payment and is held by RVezy, not the host. As long as the RV is returned in the same condition with the agreed fuel level and within the mileage allowance, the deposit is released back to you after the trip. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos and a short video of the RV inside and out at both pickup and drop-off in Panama City. It is the easiest way to ensure a smooth refund.
