Campgrounds and RV parks near Ridge Manor, FL

The paved Withlacoochee State Trail runs directly through Ridge Manor and stretches for miles in both directions, making it a natural draw for cyclists, walkers, and families on bikes. The Croom Tract of the Withlacoochee State Forest adds unpaved loops for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, plus 2,600 acres of off-road trails at the Croom Motorcycle Area for motorcycles and ATVs. Silver Lake and the Withlacoochee River offer boating, paddling, and fishing close to camp. Day trips are easy: Weeki Wachee Springs State Park is west toward the coast, Dade Battlefield Historic State Park is nearby, and Tampa, Busch Gardens, and Gulf beaches are within about an hour. Sertoma Youth Ranch Campground hosts music festivals through much of the year.

Central Florida runs on a snowbird calendar. From roughly late October through April, daytime highs are mild and humidity is lower, which drives peak demand at Ridge Manor Campground, Town and Country RV Resort, and other parks in the area. Many long-term sites are held by seasonal residents, so short-stay RV travelers should book well ahead for January through March. Summer, June through August, brings daily thunderstorms, high humidity, and heat indices that can exceed 100. It is the wettest stretch of the year, but sites are easier to secure and forest trails are quieter. Afternoon storms typically pass within an hour or two. Atlantic hurricane season officially runs June through November, with peak activity in August, September, and early October. The Florida Forest Service closes all state forest campgrounds and recreation areas when the county is placed under a Tropical Storm or Hurricane Warning by the National Weather Service, and reservations affected by tropical weather are automatically refunded.

Terrain is flat to gently rolling, with sandy soil, live oaks, pines, and palmetto. Most private parks in the Ridge Manor and Dade City area offer full hookups with 30 and 50 amp electric service, water, and sewer, along with dump stations, laundry, and pools. State forest sites at Silver Lake and Cypress Glen have water and 30/50 amp electric with a bathhouse and dump station, but no individual sewer; River Junction offers water-only sites with a central bathhouse. Expect mosquitoes and biting flies from spring through fall, and pack accordingly. Cell service is generally reliable along the I-75 corridor but can drop inside the forest tracts. Wildlife includes sandhill cranes, gopher tortoises, deer, and the occasional alligator near lakes and river frontage, so keep pets leashed and food secured.
