Campgrounds near Sharpes, Florida
Sharpes is an unincorporated community in Brevard County on Florida's Space Coast, sitting along US Highway 1 between Cocoa and Titusville. It puts RV travelers within a short drive of Kennedy Space Center, Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, Canaveral National Seashore, and the Cocoa Beach oceanfront, making it a practical base for launch viewing and Atlantic beach days.
Campgrounds in the immediate area lean toward private RV parks rather than public land camping. Joy RV Park and Sonrise Palms RV Park sit close to Sharpes itself, while Whispering Pines and The Great Outdoors RV-Nature and Golf Resort are a short drive north near Titusville. Space Coast RV Resort provides another full-hookup option nearby in Rockledge.
Camping in this stretch of Brevard County is mostly at private RV parks and destination resorts. Travelers wanting federal sites typically look toward Canaveral National Seashore backcountry areas, while Brevard County parks manage a small set of public campgrounds elsewhere in the county.
Things to do near Sharpes
The Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex and launch viewing sites along the Indian River anchor most itineraries. Rocket launches from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station and KSC are visible from several riverfront parks in Titusville and Cocoa, and launch schedules are published by NASA and SpaceX in advance so travelers can plan arrival dates around them.
Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge and Canaveral National Seashore offer wildlife drives, manatee viewing, and undeveloped Atlantic beach access just east of Sharpes. Cocoa Beach and its pier sit about twenty minutes southeast for surfing, fishing, and boardwalk dining. The Great Outdoors RV-Nature and Golf Resort includes an on-site Ron Garl-designed 18-hole championship golf course, plus pools and other resort amenities for guests who prefer to stay put between excursions.

Winter and early spring are peak RV season in this part of Florida. From December through April, daytime highs sit in the 70s Fahrenheit, humidity drops, and snowbirds fill private parks for weeks or months at a time. Sites at destination resorts like The Great Outdoors RV-Nature and Golf Resort are often booked far in advance for this window, and monthly stays are common.
Late spring is a shoulder season with warm days and generally lower demand at many parks. Summers are hot and humid with thunderstorms that are often accompanied by heavy rain and high winds, and the area is at risk for hurricanes in the autumn season. The Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, with peak activity from August into October.
Fall cools gradually. By November, humidity eases and the region shifts back into its busiest travel pattern, so booking early for Thanksgiving and the winter holiday weeks is advised.

How to book campgrounds near Sharpes
Private RV parks in and around Sharpes, including Joy RV Park, Sonrise Palms RV Park, Whispering Pines, and Space Coast RV Resort, take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. Winter stays should be booked several months out, and many parks require deposits and set minimum-night policies during launch weeks and holiday periods.
The Great Outdoors RV-Nature and Golf Resort limits rigs to self-contained RVs 18 feet or longer, does not accept truck campers, pop-ups, or tents, and offers concrete pads with 30/50 amp electric, water, and sewer. Travelers should confirm rig length, slide-out clearance, and hookup amperage when reserving. Canaveral National Seashore backcountry permits are handled through the National Park Service.
What to expect on the ground
Terrain around Sharpes is flat and near sea level, so RV maneuvering is straightforward and most parks offer paved or concrete pads with full hookups. Full-hookup sites at The Great Outdoors include level concrete pads with 30/50 amp electric, water, and sewer, and the resort has swimming pools, golf, and on-site dining.
Expect strong sun, high humidity from late spring through early fall, and afternoon thunderstorms in summer. Mosquitoes and no-see-ums are common near the Indian River Lagoon and refuge lands, so screens and repellent are essential.
Many parks in the area cater to adults and 55-plus travelers, with quieter atmospheres and organized activities. Families traveling with kids should confirm age policies and pool rules before booking.

On RVezy, travel trailers near Sharpes typically run about $90 to $175 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $175 to $295 per night, and larger Class A rigs can reach $350 or more. Pricing tends to dip during the summer rainy season (June through September) and climb around major Kennedy Space Center launches, spring break, and the snowbird stretch from January to March. No Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and no special RV endorsement required, even for larger Class A rigs used for personal travel under Florida Statute 322.53. You are not locked in the moment you book. RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not individual hosts), and every booking includes a money-back grace period right after you reserve so you can change your mind without penalty. After that window, refunds depend on factors like how far out your trip is and the plan applied to your booking. If a hurricane, named tropical storm, launch scrub, or other event affects your plans on Florida's Space Coast (hurricane season officially runs June 1 to November 30), contact RVezy support and they will walk you through your options. Book that rent an RV in Sharpes trip you have been eyeing with confidence, knowing there is a real safety net behind it.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Sharpes?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental Sharpes options are plentiful on RVezy. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on the search page and you'll see motorhomes and trailers where dogs (and sometimes cats) are explicitly welcome. Your pup will love the Space Coast: Manatee Hammock Campground in Titusville and KARS Park on Merritt Island both allow leashed dogs, and Canaveral National Seashore has designated pet areas at Apollo Beach (pets aren't allowed on most of the seashore itself, so check signage). Pro tip: message the host before booking to mention your dog's size and breed, ask about any pet cleaning fees, and confirm they're okay with pets being left briefly inside the RV with the AC running while you tour Kennedy Space Center.
nps.gov/cana/planyourvisit/pets.htmCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Sharpes?
Yes, RV delivery Sharpes is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it's a game-changer if you've never towed a trailer. Many hosts will drive the RV directly to Manatee Hammock Campground in Titusville, KARS Park on Merritt Island, Jetty Park in Cape Canaveral, or a nearby driveway, then level it, hook up water, sewer, and electric, and walk you through every system. Use the Delivery filter when searching and enter the campground address to see hosts who deliver to that spot. Delivery fees are usually based on distance from Sharpes (often $2 to $4 per mile round trip). Pro tip: book delivery to a campsite with a confirmed launch view and your trip planning is essentially done.
brevardfl.gov/ParksAndRecreationHow far can I drive, and what are mileage policies like?
You've got real range from Sharpes, FL. Most hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, and you can buy additional miles upfront (typically $0.30 to $0.50 each) or find an RV rental with unlimited mileage by filtering for it on RVezy. From Sharpes, Kennedy Space Center is about 15 miles north, Cocoa Beach is 12 miles east, Orlando theme parks sit roughly 60 miles west, Daytona Beach is 55 miles north, and Sebastian Inlet State Park is about 50 miles south. A loop hitting all of these usually fits well inside a standard mileage allowance. Pro tip: if you're planning a longer Florida RV road trip from Sharpes to the Keys or Panhandle, request unlimited miles when you message the host.
fdot.gov/Where are the best campgrounds near Sharpes, FL?
You're surrounded by great options. Manatee Hammock Campground in Titusville (about 12 miles north) is a Brevard County park on the Indian River with full hookups and unbeatable rocket launch views. KARS Park on Merritt Island offers waterfront sites just minutes from Kennedy Space Center. Jetty Park Campground in Cape Canaveral puts you next to the cruise port and a fishing pier. Wickham Park in Melbourne has 133 sites with water, electric and sewer. For state park camping, Sebastian Inlet State Park (50 miles south) is a top pick for surfers and anglers. Pro tip: Brevard County campgrounds and Florida state parks book up fast for winter, so reserve your RV camping Sharpes site 6 to 11 months out.
brevardfl.gov/ParksAndRecreation/CampgroundsWhen is the best time to visit Sharpes for an RV trip?
The sweet spot for a Sharpes RV trip is October through April, when daytime highs sit comfortably in the 70s to low 80s°F, humidity drops, and afternoon thunderstorms ease up. This dry season also lines up with peak Kennedy Space Center launch cadence and manatee viewing in the Indian River Lagoon. Summer (June through September) brings highs near 90°F, daily storms, and the Atlantic hurricane season (which officially runs June 1 to November 30), so you'll want to watch forecasts. The upside of summer: lower nightly rates and fewer crowds at the beach. Pro tip: February and March are the absolute prime months, sunny, dry, and warm enough for the pool but cool enough to sleep with the windows open.
weather.gov/mlb/I have never rented an RV before. Will I actually know what I am doing in Sharpes?
You will be in great shape. First time renting an RV is one of the most common bookings on RVezy. Every host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup in Sharpes or at your delivery location: how to level the rig, connect water, sewer, and 30/50-amp electric, light the propane stove, switch the fridge between modes, deploy slide-outs, and operate the awning. They share their cell number so you can text questions mid-trip, and RVezy 24/7 support is also one call away. For an extra confidence boost, start with a Class C motorhome or campervan rather than a 35-foot Class A. Pro tip: ask your host about local quirks like US-1 traffic on launch nights and bridge clearances to Merritt Island.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip near Sharpes?
You are covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire, dead battery, lockout, or mechanical issue is a single phone call away from a fix, whether you are parked along US-1 in Sharpes, driving the Beachline Expressway (SR-528), or out at Sebastian Inlet. Your host is also your first text: they know the RV's quirks better than anyone and can usually troubleshoot small issues (like a tripped GFCI or a finicky water pump) in minutes. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after every trip. Pro tip: snap photos of the breaker panel, water connections, and propane valves during your walkthrough so you can reference them later.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat road trips can I take from Sharpes, FL?
An RV road trip from Sharpes opens up a ton of Florida. Top picks: Kennedy Space Center and Canaveral National Seashore (15 to 25 miles north), Orlando theme parks (60 miles west via SR-528), Daytona Beach (55 miles north on I-95), the Tampa Bay area (140 miles west), the Florida Keys (250 miles south via the Turnpike and US-1), and St. Augustine (110 miles north). Many guests also do a Space Coast loop down to Sebastian Inlet, Vero Beach, and Jupiter. Note: travel to Mexico isn't permitted on RVezy rentals (insurance doesn't extend there). Pro tip: time your return drive to catch a SpaceX or NASA launch from the Titusville waterfront, it's the best free show on the planet.
visitflorida.com/How much should I budget for fuel on a Sharpes RV trip?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost, but it's manageable. Campervans and small Class B rigs in Sharpes get 18 to 22 mpg, Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 mpg, and Class A gas rigs run 6 to 10 mpg. Florida gas prices typically sit near the U.S. average, and you'll find competitively priced stations along US-1 in Cocoa and Rockledge, plus Wawa and Buc-ee's-style stops near I-95 exits 195 (Fiske Blvd) and 201 (SR-520). For a typical 4-night Space Coast loop covering 250 miles, budget roughly $80 to $150 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: fill up before crossing onto Merritt Island or A1A, the closer you get to the beach and cruise port, the higher the per-gallon price.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Sharpes?
Book earlier than you think. Florida State Parks (including Sebastian Inlet and Wekiwa Springs) open reservations exactly 11 months in advance through ReserveAmerica's Florida State Parks portal, and prime winter weekends fill within minutes. Brevard County campgrounds like Manatee Hammock and Wickham Park open 6 months ahead and also book quickly around launch dates. Jetty Park (run by the Canaveral Port Authority) takes reservations 12 months out. Private parks like Sonrise Palms and Cape Kennedy RV Resort in Mims can sometimes be booked a few weeks out, even in season. Pro tip: set a calendar alert for the exact 8 a.m. Eastern release time when planning a January or February stay near Sharpes, that's when the best campgrounds near Sharpes go live.
floridastateparks.org/learn/reservationsWhat are local driving conditions like in and around Sharpes?
Driving in the Sharpes area is generally easy: flat terrain, wide lanes, and well-maintained highways. US-1 (N. Cocoa Blvd) runs right through Sharpes and is the simplest route for an RV. I-95 (just west) and SR-528/Beachline are your fast options to Orlando and the beaches. Things to watch for: afternoon summer thunderstorms can drop visibility fast, the NASA Causeway and bridges to Merritt Island have crosswinds for high-profile rigs, and US-1 traffic backs up significantly 3 to 5 hours before any Kennedy Space Center launch. Avoid downtown Cocoa Village's narrow streets in anything over 25 feet. Pro tip: a campervan rental Sharpes hosts list is the easiest pick if you're nervous about bridges or bigger rigs.
fl511.com/What amenities do campgrounds near Sharpes offer?
You'll find a full range. Most Space Coast campgrounds (Manatee Hammock, KARS Park, Wickham Park, Jetty Park) offer 30/50-amp electric, potable water, and sewer hookups at the site, plus centralized dump stations, hot showers, laundry, and Wi-Fi of varying quality. Florida State Parks like Sebastian Inlet provide water and electric but central dump stations rather than at-site sewer. Free public dump stations are limited in Brevard County, so paid dumps at Manatee Hammock or Wickham Park are your best bet between stays. Potable water fill-ups are available at every full-hookup site. Pro tip: bring a 25-foot drinking-water hose and a 90-degree elbow, Florida sites sometimes place the spigot awkwardly behind shrubs or pedestals.
floridastateparks.org/rv-campingWhat's actually inside the RV I'll rent in Sharpes?
More than you'd expect. A typical motorhome rental Sharpes listing comes fully equipped: a queen or king bed, convertible dinette and sofa sleepers, a full kitchen (fridge/freezer, propane stove, microwave, sink, cookware, dishes), a wet or dry bathroom with toilet and shower, roof and dash AC (critical on the Space Coast), heat, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many include a generator, outdoor speakers, an awning with LED lighting, a flat-screen TV, and Wi-Fi hotspot or starlink. Linens, towels, camp chairs, and a barbecue are often listed as included or available as add-ons. Pro tip: filter listings by sleeps count and check the photo gallery for the exact bed configuration so your family RV trip Sharpes setup matches who's coming.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehicle-safetyWhat add-ons and pickup logistics should I expect in Sharpes?
Sharpes hosts make pickup smooth. Common add-ons (with typical fees): generator use ($3 to $5 per hour beyond included hours), bedding and towel packages ($25 to $75 per trip), camp chairs and outdoor tables ($10 to $25), portable grills ($15 to $30), bike racks, kayaks or SUPs, and pet cleaning fees. Pickup is typically at the host's home in Sharpes, Cocoa, Rockledge, or Merritt Island, with a 60- to 90-minute walkthrough. Delivery to a campground or your driveway is widely offered. Mileage policies usually include 100 to 150 free miles per night with paid overage or unlimited-mile upgrades available on select listings. Pro tip: ask about an inverter or solar setup if you are planning to boondock at Hatbill Park on the St. Johns River or watch launches off-grid.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Sharpes%2C%20FloridaHow does payment and the security deposit work on an RVezy booking?
Payment is simple and secure. You pay through RVezy with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host, which protects your booking. A refundable security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) is pre-authorized on your card before pickup and released after the host confirms the RV was returned in the same condition. To avoid hiccups, complete a thorough pre-trip walkaround with the host, take date-stamped photos and videos inside and out, and keep the holding tanks emptied and the rig tidy at dropoff. Pro tip: fueling and dumping tanks before returning your Sharpes RV rental avoids the most common deductions and gets your full deposit back faster.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park or stay overnight in an RV around Sharpes?
You have plenty of legal options. The closest overnight RV spots are Manatee Hammock Campground in Titusville, KARS Park on Merritt Island, Sonrise Palms RV Park in Cocoa, and Cape Kennedy RV Resort in Mims. Hatbill Park in Mims allows primitive camping by permit on the St. Johns River. Overnight parking in Brevard County beach lots and most public parks is generally not allowed, and Cocoa Beach prohibits sleeping in vehicles on city streets. Some Cracker Barrel and Walmart locations along I-95 still permit one-night stays when you ask the manager first. Pro tip: if you want to know exactly where to park an RV in Sharpes for a launch, Space View Park in Titusville is a popular daytime viewing spot with great sightlines.
