Campgrounds and RV parks near Silver Springs Shores East, FL

Silver Springs State Park, about a half hour northwest, is the marquee attraction, with glass-bottom boat tours over the spring head, paddling on the Silver River, and hiking and biking trails through hardwood hammock. The Ocala National Forest wraps the community to the east and holds Salt Springs, Juniper Springs, and Alexander Springs, plus long sections of the Florida National Scenic Trail. Anglers fish Lake Weir, Mill Dam Lake, and the Ocklawaha River for bass and panfish. Cyclists ride the paved Cross Florida Greenway, and equestrians take advantage of the region's extensive horse trails. Downtown Ocala offers grocery runs, restaurants, and the Appleton Museum of Art within a 20-minute drive.

The peak RV season runs from roughly November through April, when highs sit in the 70s and low 80s and humidity drops. Snowbirds fill long-stay parks such as Nelson's Outdoor Resort and Blue Parrot RV Resort through the winter, and weekend sites at Silver Springs State Park and Salt Springs Recreation Area book out well ahead of holidays. Spring brings warm, mostly dry weather and heavier weekend traffic from Florida residents, with campgrounds still busy through spring break. Summer is hot and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms most days and heavy rainfall from June through September. Sites are generally easier to secure, and rates at private resorts often ease, but campers should plan around midday storms and use rigs with reliable cooling. Fall is a shoulder season with cooling temperatures and reduced rainfall, though Atlantic hurricane activity peaks from August into October and can occasionally disrupt bookings across north-central Florida.

Private resorts in the area typically offer full hookups with 30- and 50-amp service, paved or firm gravel pads, laundry, and long-term monthly rates aimed at winter visitors. Silver Springs State Park has 59 sites in two loops with water and electric, a separate dump station, and a 50-foot maximum RV length. Salt Springs Recreation Area is the only Ocala National Forest campground with full RV hookups. Cell coverage is generally reliable near the Shores and the Highway 40 corridor and thins deeper in the national forest. Campers should expect Florida wildlife including alligators in area lakes and springs, black bears in the forest, and mosquitoes in the warm months.
