Sorrento camping overview
Sorrento sits in eastern Lake County, roughly 30 miles northwest of downtown Orlando and near the Wekiva River basin and the western edge of the Ocala National Forest. The area gives RV travelers a rural base within easy driving distance of central Florida's theme parks, spring runs, and inland lakes.
Private RV parks dominate the immediate area. Wekiva Falls RV Resort is located directly in Sorrento and offers tent sites, RV hookups, and cabin rentals with access to a spring-fed swimming area and walking trails. Nearby options include Orlando NW / Orange Blossom KOA Journey, Lake Saunders RV Resort, Woods N Water Trails RV Community, and Southern Palms RV Resort, all catering to Class A, Class C, travel trailer, and fifth-wheel rigs.
Public camping is available a short drive south at Wekiwa Springs State Park in Apopka. The Family Campground has 60 sites with electric and water hookups, picnic tables, and fire rings, and sewer hookups are available at some sites.
Things to do near Sorrento
The Wekiva River corridor is the region's main draw. Emerald springs feed the Wekiva River through lush tropical hammocks, and miles of trails can be explored on foot, bike, or horseback, with canoes and kayaks available on-site at Wekiwa Springs State Park. Swimming in the 72-degree spring is the star attraction, and the park has more than 13 miles of multi-use trails.
Paddlers can launch on Rock Springs Run and the Wekiva River from park liveries. Manatee viewing draws visitors to nearby Blue Spring State Park in Orange City during the cooler months, when the animals gather in the constant-temperature spring run.
Sorrento also functions as a quieter alternative to Orlando-area base camps, keeping the theme parks, Mount Dora's shops, and Lake County's chain of lakes within a short drive.

Central Florida runs on a two-season rhythm: a warm, wet summer and a mild, dry winter. Summers are long, hot, humid, and often cloudy, while winters are short, cool, and generally drier. Heavy afternoon thunderstorms are common during the warmer months and contribute to most of the annual precipitation.
Winter is peak RV season. Reservations are essential for private resorts in the area during winter months, when mild temperatures and northern visitors drive demand. Snowbirds book monthly stays at private resorts from roughly November through March, and weekend availability tightens near holidays.
Summer visitation at the state parks stays high despite the heat. Wekiwa Springs State Park draws visitors year-round, but peak season runs from May through September, and during this period the park often reaches capacity and late arrivals may be turned away. Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, with the highest storm risk from August to October.

How to book campgrounds near Sorrento
Private RV parks in the Sorrento area, including Wekiva Falls RV Resort, Orlando NW / Orange Blossom KOA Journey, Lake Saunders RV Resort, Woods N Water Trails RV Community, and Southern Palms RV Resort, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Snowbird months fill first, so multi-week winter stays should be locked in several months out.
State park sites are handled through the Florida State Parks reservation system. Wekiwa Springs campsites can be reserved 11 months in advance for Florida residents or 10 months in advance for non-residents, and summer and holiday weekends can book up as soon as the window opens.
Day-use entry to Wekiwa Springs State Park now requires a separate reservation, available up to 60 days in advance through the park's reservation site.
What to expect in Sorrento
Expect flat terrain, sandy soils, oak and pine cover, and warm humid air for most of the year. Sites at private resorts in the Sorrento area typically include full hookups, paved or gravel pads, and pull-through options that accommodate larger rigs. State park sites are more rustic, with electric and water and a shared dump station for RV waste.
Summer afternoons bring near-daily thunderstorms, so shaded sites and awnings are useful. Mosquitoes, no-see-ums, and love bugs are part of the experience from spring through fall. Alligators inhabit most lakes and slow-moving waters, so keep pets leashed and away from shorelines.
Pets are allowed at Wekiwa Springs State Park but must be leashed at all times. Cell coverage is reliable across Lake County, and grocery and propane stops are within a short drive in Sorrento, Mount Dora, and Eustis.

You'll just need to be 25 or older with a valid driver's license, and RVezy will verify your ID through the platform during booking. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home license. That's it, you're ready to roll toward Wekiwa Springs.

May through September gets hot (90-91°F highs with heat indexes near 115°F) and is peak hurricane/thunderstorm season from June 1 to November 30. weather.gov/mlb/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
Yes, and Sorrento is an ideal launchpad for a first time renting an RV. Your host gives a full walkthrough at pickup or delivery, covering driving tips, hookups, slide-outs, water, propane, and the generator, and they're a text away during your trip. RVezy's 24/7 support has your back too. The area's flat terrain, wide rural roads like SR-46 and CR-437, and gentle 35-55 mph speed limits around Lake County make it forgiving for new drivers. Pro tip: start with a Class C motorhome or a delivered travel trailer, you'll skip highway towing entirely and focus on enjoying Wekiva Springs.
flhsmv.gov/safety-center/driving-safety/What happens if something goes wrong on my trip?
You're never stranded. Every motorhome rental Sorrento on RVezy comes with 24/7 roadside assistance included with the renter protection plan, covering flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing if needed. If a fridge, AC, or slide-out acts up, message your host first (they know their rig inside out) and RVezy's support team is available around the clock as backup. Pro tip: snap photos of all systems during your walkthrough so you can troubleshoot quickly. Most issues in Central Florida (a loose battery cable from a bumpy ride, or an AC breaker tripped from the heat) are easy fixes once you know where to look.

visitflorida.com/What should I budget for fuel on a Sorrento RV trip?
Budgeting fuel is straightforward in Florida. Expect 7-10 MPG for Class A motorhomes, 10-14 MPG for Class C, 15-20 MPG for campervans, and your tow vehicle's mileage minus 20-30% when pulling a travel trailer. Florida gas prices typically run $3.00-$3.40/gallon, slightly below the national average, with the cheapest stations on US-441 in Mount Dora and along I-4 in Apopka. A typical 4-night loop from Sorrento to Wekiwa Springs, Mount Dora, and back runs about $80-$120 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: fill up before entering Orlando, prices jump 20-30 cents near the theme parks.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Sorrento?
Book early and you'll get the best spots. Florida State Parks (including Wekiwa Springs) open reservations 11 months in advance for Florida residents and 10 months for non-residents through the floridastateparks.org reservation system, and prime winter weekends sell out the morning they release. Private parks like Wekiva Falls RV Resort and Clerbrook accept reservations directly online, usually 6-12 months ahead for January-March. For shoulder season trips (October, April, May), 4-6 weeks of lead time is usually plenty. Pro tip: set a calendar alert for 8 a.m. Eastern on the day your dates open, sites at Wekiwa Springs disappear in minutes for holiday weekends.
floridastateparks.org/learn/reservationsWhat are driving conditions like around Sorrento?
Driving an RV around Sorrento is delightfully easy. The terrain is flat, roads like SR-46, CR-437, and US-441 are wide with generous shoulders, and there are no mountain passes or steep grades to worry about. Watch for afternoon thunderstorms June through September (pull over and wait 20 minutes, they pass quickly), occasional fog on cool winter mornings, and slower traffic near Mount Dora's antique district on weekends. Avoid driving a tall RV through downtown Orlando during rush hour, use the SR-429 toll road to skirt the city. Pro tip: Florida's heaviest tourist traffic is Saturday afternoons on I-4, plan arrival days for weekdays when possible.
fdot.gov/agencyresources/mapsWhat amenities will I find at Sorrento-area campgrounds?
Central Florida campgrounds are well-equipped. Wekiva Falls RV Resort and Clerbrook offer full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, sewer), Wi-Fi, pools, laundry, and dump stations. Wekiwa Springs State Park sites 1-30 include water, 50-amp electric, and sewer; sites 31-60 are 30-amp without sewer, with a central dump station and bathhouse on site. Most parks have potable water fill stations, propane refills nearby in Sorrento or Mount Dora, and small camp stores. Pro tip: bring a 25-foot sewer hose and a water pressure regulator, Florida water pressure can spike high at some parks and your host's RV will appreciate the protection.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/wekiwa-springs-state-park/experiences-amenitiesWhat's actually inside the RVs available in Sorrento?
You'll be surprised how loaded these rigs are. A typical campervan rental Sorrento or Class C on RVezy includes queen or king beds, a full kitchen (fridge/freezer, stove, microwave, sink, cookware), a wet or dry bathroom with shower and toilet, roof-mounted air conditioning (essential for Florida), heat, a flatscreen TV, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many include onboard generators, outdoor speakers, awnings, and solar panels. Wi-Fi varies by listing, hotspots and cell boosters are common add-ons. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count to match your group, and check the listing photos for things like outdoor kitchens and bike racks, popular for a family RV trip Sorrento.
flhsmv.gov/motor-vehicles-tags-titles/recreational-vehicles/What add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts offer lots of helpful extras to make your Sorrento trip smoother. Common add-ons include linen and kitchen kits ($25-$75), camp chairs and tables ($15-$40), generators (often included), bike racks, kayaks, propane refills, and pet packages. Pickup is typically at the host's home in Sorrento, Mount Dora, Apopka, or Eustis, with delivery available within Lake, Orange, and Seminole counties for a per-mile fee. Most hosts require pickup between 1-4 p.m. and return by 11 a.m. Pro tip: bundle linens + kitchen kit + camp chairs for your first rental, you'll save the headache of stocking everything from scratch on day one.
lakecountyfl.gov/departments/conservation/How do payment and the security deposit work?
Payment on RVezy is simple and secure. You pay the full booking total (rental fee, protection plan, taxes, and host add-ons) through the RVezy platform when you book, never directly to the host. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment and is pre-authorized on your credit card before pickup, then released after return assuming no damage or extra cleaning. To avoid issues: take a video walkthrough at pickup and drop-off, return the RV with the fuel and propane levels noted in your agreement, and empty the tanks at a dump station if required. Pro tip: keep all receipts, they protect you if any question comes up later.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksHow do I handle Florida's heat and summer storms in an RV?
With a little planning, summer in Sorrento is manageable. Every RV on the platform has roof AC (usually 13,500-15,000 BTU), which keeps interiors cool even when it's in the low 90s outside, just make sure your campsite offers 30 or 50-amp shore power so you're not draining the generator. Drive early (before 2 p.m.) to avoid the daily afternoon thunderstorms that roll in from the Gulf, and use weather apps to track lightning. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, and RVezy's cancellation policy includes provisions for named storms. Pro tip: park your awning facing east to enjoy shade through Florida's hot afternoons at Wekiva Falls.
