Camping near Springfield, Florida
Springfield sits on the north shore of St. Andrews Bay in Bay County, Florida, minutes from Panama City and the Gulf beaches at Panama City Beach. The area works as a practical base for RV travelers who want quick access to the Emerald Coast without paying beachfront rates, with grocery stores, fuel, dump stations, and RV supply shops all within a short drive.
The closest public campground of note is St Andrews State Park, roughly three miles east of Panama City Beach on a peninsula where the Gulf of Mexico meets Grand Lagoon. Private options concentrate along the beach corridor and include Deerhaven RV Park, Venture Out Panama City Beach, Panama City Beach RV Resort, and Sun Outdoors Panama City Beach.
RV travelers typically use Springfield as a staging point for day trips to Shell Island, Camp Helen, and the piers along the beach, returning to full-hookup sites in the evening. Sites in the region range from wooded state park loops to resort-style parks with pools and beach access.
Things to do near Springfield
Beach time drives most itineraries. St Andrews State Park offers roughly 1.5 miles of sand, two fishing piers, a jetty popular with snorkelers, and a shuttle to undeveloped Shell Island for shelling and swimming in calmer water. The park also has short nature trails, including the Gator Lake Trail and Overlook, and a boat ramp for kayaks and small craft.
Away from the sand, families use the Panama City Beach corridor for mini-golf, go-karts, and the Pier Park shopping and dining district. Anglers can book charters out of Grand Lagoon, and paddlers can launch into the bay from multiple public ramps.
Dolphin sightings are common from shore and from tour boats. Cyclists will find flat, paved multi-use paths along Front Beach Road and inside the state park.

Peak season runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, when Gulf water temperatures climb into the mid-80s and school-break traffic fills every campground on the beach. Expect full parks, higher demand, and heavy afternoon thunderstorms. August is the wettest month of the year, and the Atlantic hurricane season peaks from mid-August through October, so travelers should monitor National Hurricane Center advisories and keep flexible plans.
Spring, from March through May, is the driest stretch and one of the most comfortable windows for RV travel. Days warm quickly, water is still cool for swimming, and spring break weeks in March push occupancy sharply higher at Panama City Beach parks.
Fall shoulder season, particularly late October and November, brings mild days, thinning crowds, and easier reservations once hurricane risk drops. Winter is the coolest and quietest period, with mild highs, cool nights, and occasional cold fronts that can push nighttime lows near freezing during January cold snaps.
How to book campgrounds near Springfield
St Andrews State Park uses the Florida State Parks reservation system at reserve.floridastateparks.org or by phone. Florida residents can book up to 11 months in advance, and non-residents up to 10 months in advance. Summer weekends and holiday weeks often sell out on the day the window opens, so travelers should be ready at 8 a.m. Eastern on the release date.
Private parks including Deerhaven RV Park, Venture Out Panama City Beach, Panama City Beach RV Resort, and Sun Outdoors Panama City Beach take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Spring break, Independence Day, and Labor Day fill first. If preferred dates are unavailable, check back regularly, since cancellations open new inventory throughout the season.
What to expect on the ground
St Andrews State Park has two loops of sites in mature pinewoods near Grand Lagoon, with water and electric hookups, picnic tables, and grills. The campground accommodates RVs up to about 40 feet, with five bathhouses, a laundry facility, and a dump station on site. Reviews commonly note tight site spacing and the need to book months ahead.
Private resorts along Panama City Beach lean toward paved sites, pools, laundry, and beach access, and are generally better suited to larger fifth wheels and Class A motorhomes. Cell coverage is strong throughout the area.
Expect humidity, biting insects near dusk in warm months, and beach sand tracked into every rig. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, insect repellent, and a weather radio during hurricane season.

Gas prices in the Panama City/Springfield area typically sit slightly below the Florida state average, with stations along US-231 and Tyndall Parkway being among the cheapest. floridastateparks.org/learn/reserve-campsiteWhat are the driving conditions like around Springfield, FL?
Driving an RV around Springfield is refreshingly easy. Roads are flat, well-paved, and the main arteries (US-98, US-231, and Tyndall Parkway) handle big rigs without issue. Watch for the Hathaway Bridge over St. Andrews Bay, which has occasional crosswinds, and avoid the narrow Thomas Drive loop in Panama City Beach with anything over 30 feet during spring break. Afternoon summer thunderstorms can dump heavy rain quickly between June and September, so pull off and wait it out. Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30; check the National Hurricane Center before long drives. Pro tip: drive between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. for the calmest weather and lightest traffic on US-98.
nhc.noaa.gov/What amenities do local campgrounds offer for dumping and refilling?
You'll find excellent hookups across the Springfield area. St. Andrews State Park sites include water and 30/50-amp electric, with a centralized dump station and potable water fill near the entrance. Pine Lake RV Park, PineGlen Motorcoach, and Panama City Beach RV Resort all offer full hookups (water, sewer, electric) right at the site, so no dumping run needed. Most private parks also provide laundry, Wi-Fi, and bathhouses. If you're boondocking or staying at a partial-hookup site, the dump station at Raccoon River Campground is open to non-guests for a small fee. Pro tip: top off freshwater before you leave the host's driveway, since Florida's flat terrain means low water pressure at some older state park loops.
floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/st-andrews-state-parkWhat's included inside a typical Springfield RV rental?

Expect a queen or king bed, a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control with roof AC (essential on Gulf Coast summer days), and seatbelted seating for everyone in your party. Most rigs include a TV, many have outdoor speakers for beach prep playlists, and a growing number offer onboard Wi-Fi or cellular hotspots. Class A and C motorhomes typically have a generator for off-grid power; campervans usually run on solar and house batteries. Each listing spells out exactly what's included, so filter by sleeps count and amenities to match your crew. Pack light, linens and basic kitchenware are usually provided.

visitflorida.com/things-to-do/beaches/How does the security deposit and payment work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. When you book your rent an RV in Springfield trip, you pay through the RVezy platform using a credit card, which keeps your protection plan valid. The rental cost is charged through RVezy at booking, and a refundable security deposit is held separately on your card before pickup, not charged unless there's an issue at return. To avoid deposit issues, do a video walk-around with your host at pickup and drop-off, return the RV with the same fuel and propane levels, and follow the listing's cleaning and mileage rules. The security deposit is separate from your booking payment and is released after your trip if no claims are filed.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat are the best road trip destinations from Springfield, FL?
Springfield is a perfect launchpad for a Gulf Coast RV adventure. Panama City Beach and St. Andrews State Park are 15 to 25 minutes away with sugar-white sand and snorkeling jetties. Drive 1 hour east to Mexico Beach and Cape San Blas for quiet beaches and the famous T.H. Stone Memorial St. Joseph Peninsula State Park. Head 1 hour 15 minutes north to Florida Caverns State Park in Marianna for guided cave tours, the only one in Florida. Destin and the 30A beach towns sit 1.5 to 2 hours west. For a longer haul, Tallahassee is 2 hours northeast and New Orleans is a doable 5-hour push. Pro tip: do a 5-day Emerald Coast loop hitting St. Andrews, 30A, and Cape San Blas, it's pure magic in October.
