Campgrounds near Taft, Florida
Taft sits in south Orange County, Florida, just south of Orlando International Airport and inside the greater Orlando and Kissimmee theme park corridor. The area functions as a practical RV base for visitors heading to Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, SeaWorld, and the attractions along International Drive, with quick access via State Road 417, the Florida Turnpike, and Interstate 4.
Campground options near Taft range from full-hookup RV resorts to family-oriented parks with pools and planned activities. Orlando has a humid subtropical climate with hot, wet summers and mild winters, and rainfall is strongly seasonal, with summer far wetter than winter. That climate keeps most campgrounds open year-round, though demand shifts sharply with school breaks and theme park calendars.
Nearby options include Mill Creek and Mill Creek RV Resort, Florida Park Orlando, Ponderosa RV Park Resort, and the Orlando / Kissimmee KOA Holiday. Each offers a different balance of proximity to attractions, on-site amenities, and quieter buffer from the interstate.
Things to do near Taft
The main draw is the Orlando theme park cluster: Walt Disney World in Lake Buena Vista, Universal Orlando and its Epic Universe park, SeaWorld, and smaller parks like Gatorland and Fun Spot America. Most are within a 20 to 40 minute drive of Taft, depending on traffic.
Beyond the parks, families use Taft as a base for airboat tours on the Kissimmee chain of lakes, day trips to the Kennedy Space Center on the Space Coast, and outlet shopping along International Drive and Vineland Avenue. Wekiwa Springs State Park and Blue Spring State Park sit within an hour and offer swimming, paddling, and manatee viewing in season.
RV parks such as the Orlando / Kissimmee KOA Holiday and Ponderosa RV Park Resort typically add pools, playgrounds, and shuttle information to help families structure park days.

Orlando has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and mild winters, and the area is wet overall with a strong seasonal pattern where summers are significantly wetter. Heavy afternoon thunderstorms are common during the warmer months, and that pattern shapes when RV travel is most comfortable.
Winter, roughly December through February, brings the mildest daytime temperatures and the lowest rainfall, which makes it the peak season for snowbirds and holiday theme park visits. Sites at nearby RV resorts often book weeks or months in advance for this window, especially around Thanksgiving, Christmas, and spring break in March. Overnight lows can occasionally dip near freezing, so travelers should plan for fresh water hose protection on cold nights.
Summer is hot, humid, and wet, with near-daily afternoon thunderstorms and elevated hurricane risk from June through November. Shoulder months such as late April, May, and October generally offer a workable balance of warm weather, thinner crowds, and lower rain totals.

How to book an RV site near Taft
Most campgrounds in the Taft and greater Orlando area are privately operated and take reservations directly through their own websites, by phone, or through third-party booking platforms. Popular resorts near the theme parks, including the Orlando / Kissimmee KOA Holiday and Ponderosa RV Park Resort, often require deposits and enforce cancellation windows, especially during holiday periods.
For Florida State Parks such as Wekiwa Springs or Lake Louisa, reservations run through the Florida State Parks reservation system. Florida residents can book up to 11 months in advance and non-residents up to 10 months, and popular sites fill quickly for weekends and winter months.
RV travelers should confirm rig length limits, slide-out clearance, hookup type (30 or 50 amp), and whether the site is back-in or pull-through before finalizing a booking. Peak-season stays typically require minimum-night commitments.
What to expect
Campgrounds near Taft cover a wide range, from resort-style parks with pools, hot tubs, dog runs, and planned activities to simpler RV parks focused on long-stay guests. Full hookups with sewer, water, and 30/50-amp electric are standard at the larger properties, and most offer Wi-Fi, though signal quality varies.
Traffic on Interstate 4, the Florida Turnpike, and around the theme park exits is heavy in the mornings and evenings, so building extra drive time into park days is realistic. Summer thunderstorms usually roll in during the afternoon, which is worth factoring into outdoor plans.
Mosquitoes and biting insects are active most of the year and peak in the warm, wet months. Sunscreen, insect repellent, and shade at the campsite matter more here than in drier regions, and pets should not be left outside unattended in the heat.

nps.gov/ever/planyourvisit/index.htmWhat kind of fuel economy and gas budget should I plan for?
Plan smart and your fuel bill won't sting. Class C motorhomes around Taft typically get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, Class A motorhomes around 6 to 10 mpg, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (figure 10 to 14 mpg for a half-ton truck pulling a mid-size trailer). With Florida gas prices recently averaging around $3.00 to $3.40 per gallon, a 200-mile round trip from Taft to Cocoa Beach in a Class C will run roughly $55 to $75 in fuel. Pro tip: use the Wawa and Buc-ee's stations along I-4 and the Florida Turnpike for clean restrooms and competitive prices, and fill up before you cross into Disney property where stations are scarce.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Taft, FL?
Earlier is better, especially for the marquee spots. Disney's Fort Wilderness opens reservations months in advance and prime holiday loops fill quickly, so plan 6 to 12 months ahead for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and spring break. Florida State Parks like Lake Louisa and Wekiwa Springs open bookings 11 months in advance to the day at 8 a.m. Eastern, so set a calendar alarm. Moss Park is popular on weekends, so arriving Thursday helps. Pro tip: lock in your campground first, then book your Taft, FL RV rental around those dates so delivery timing lines up perfectly.
floridastateparks.org/learn/make-reservationWhat are driving conditions like around Taft, FL?
Driving an RV around Taft is straightforward once you know the local quirks. The area sits near the convergence of I-4, the Florida Turnpike, and SR-417, and afternoon traffic from 4 to 7 p.m. around Orlando International Airport and the theme park exits can be heavy, so plan pickup and drop-off for mid-morning. Watch for summer thunderstorms (typically 3 to 6 p.m.) that can drop visibility fast, and pull over safely if lightning is close, as Central Florida sees frequent strikes. The terrain is flat, so there are no mountain passes to worry about. Pro tip: avoid Disney's World Drive at park opening and closing, and use SR-535 or Western Way for a smoother approach in a larger rig.
fl511.com/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Taft, FL?
Central Florida campgrounds are among the best-equipped in the country. Most parks near Taft offer full hookups (30 and 50 amp electric, water, and sewer), Wi-Fi, swimming pools, laundry, propane refill stations, and on-site dump stations, and Disney's Fort Wilderness even adds cable TV at every site. State parks like Lake Louisa and Wekiwa Springs include water and electric plus centralized dump stations and bathhouses with hot showers. Need to fill freshwater or dump tanks between stops? Apps like Sanidumps and Campendium list options along I-4 and the Turnpike. Pro tip: ask your host whether the RV's fresh and waste tanks come prepared so you can hit the road without an immediate detour.
floridastateparks.org/learn/campingWhat's included inside a typical Taft, FL RV rental?
You'll get a fully outfitted home on wheels. Most motorhome rental Taft listings come with a queen or king bed, convertible dinettes that sleep extra guests, a full kitchen (fridge, freezer, propane stove, microwave, sink, cookware), a bathroom with shower and toilet, roof and dash air conditioning, furnace heat, a TV, and seatbelts for every traveling passenger as required by Florida law. Many also include a generator, outdoor speakers, awning, and outdoor griddle. Wi-Fi hotspots and solar are common upgrades. Campervan rental Taft options are more compact but still include sleeping, cooking, and often a wet bath. Pro tip: check the listing's amenities tab and message the host if you need a specific item like a Pack 'n Play, child seat, or bike rack.
flhsmv.gov/safety-center/child-safety/florida-occupant-protection-laws/What add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts in Taft offer plenty of ways to customize your trip. Common paid add-ons include linens and bedding kits, kitchen packages, generators with fuel, bike racks, kayak racks, outdoor chairs, propane fill, and tank dump fees if you'd rather not handle it yourself. Pickup is usually at the host's home base in or near Taft, often within minutes of Orlando International Airport, and most hosts offer paid delivery and setup straight to your campsite. Mileage policies, pet fees, and generator-hour limits are listed clearly on each listing. Pro tip: bundle delivery, linens, and a full propane tank upfront, as it's almost always cheaper than adding extras later.
rvezy.com/How do payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure on RVezy. You'll pay through the platform during booking, never directly to the host, and your card is charged for the rental, fees, and chosen protection plan. A refundable security deposit is held on your card before your trip starts, then released after drop-off once the host confirms there's no damage, missing items, or extra cleaning needed. The deposit amount is shown clearly on each listing, so there are no surprises. Pro tip: take dated photos and a short video walk-around of the RV at both pickup and return to document its condition, it's the best way to ensure your full deposit is returned promptly.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksHow do I handle Florida's summer heat and hurricane season in an RV?
With a little prep, Taft is comfortable year-round. Every RV rental in Taft, FL comes with roof air conditioning, but in July and August (highs in the low 90s with high humidity) you'll want full 50-amp shore power so the AC can run nonstop, so choose campgrounds like Orlando/Kissimmee KOA or Fort Wilderness that offer it. Drive in the early morning before afternoon storms roll in. Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, peaking August through October; track the National Hurricane Center and follow your host's guidance if a storm threatens. Pro tip: book May or late October for shoulder-season pricing with warm weather and typically fewer storms.
