Campgrounds and RV parks near Weeki Wachee Gardens, FL

The main draw is Weeki Wachee Springs State Park, home to the classic mermaid show performed in the spring itself and to Buccaneer Bay, the state's only spring-fed waterpark. Buccaneer Bay features four water slides, two of which drop riders into the natural spring, along with a sandy beach, a lazy river, and a wading area for younger kids. Visitors can also swim in the roughly 74°F spring water or rent kayaks for paddles down the Weeki Wachee River. Beyond the park, the river connects to the Gulf, and manatees move upstream in cooler months. About 40 minutes north, Crystal River and Homosassa Springs offer additional spring access for paddling, snorkeling, and wildlife viewing. Inland, Withlacoochee State Forest provides hiking, mountain biking, and paddling, and Pine Island Park offers a small Gulf beach popular with families.

Winter is the most popular season for camping in this region thanks to mild temperatures and reduced insect activity. From roughly December through March, snowbirds fill full-hookup parks, and manatees move up the spring-fed rivers seeking warmer water. Daytime temperatures are comfortable, humidity drops, and mosquito pressure eases. Sites at parks like Holiday Springs RV Resort and Three Lakes RV Resort book out well ahead during this window. Spring, from March into May, is the shoulder season. Weather stays warm and mostly dry, wildflowers bloom in the state forest, and the spring-fed rivers run clear before summer runoff. Summer brings heat, humidity, and Florida's afternoon thunderstorm pattern. The Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, with peak activity from August through October. The spring water stays around 74°F year round, so Buccaneer Bay and the river remain busy with local families. Fall softens the heat but overlaps with the most active weeks of hurricane season. Low water levels on the upper river can also affect operations, and the park's Wilderness River Cruise has at times been paused during daytime hours because of low water.

Weeki Wachee sits on porous limestone that feeds the region's clear springs and river systems, at an elevation of roughly 10 to 15 feet above sea level. Sites are flat, sandy, and generally well drained, though summer downpours can leave puddles. Shade varies: oak and pine canopies at smaller parks contrast with more open layouts at larger resorts. Full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service are standard at Holiday Springs RV Resort, Topics RV Resort, and Three Lakes RV Resort. Heated pools, laundry, and shuffleboard are common at the larger snowbird-oriented parks. Waterfront properties like Mary's Fish Camp lean rustic, prioritizing direct river access over resort features, with limited bathhouse capacity and spotty WiFi. Expect wildlife: manatees in cooler months, gopher tortoises in scrubland, alligators in freshwater ponds, and mosquitoes and no-see-ums after dusk from late spring through fall. Cell coverage is reliable along US-19 but can thin inside state forest tracts.
