Campgrounds and RV parks near Bowman, GA

Lake Hartwell drives most of the recreation in this corner of Georgia. Boating, fishing, and swimming are the core activities, and Hartwell Lakeside KOA Holiday sits directly on the shoreline with water access from many sites. At Watson Mill Bridge State Park, hiking, biking, and equestrian trails wind through thick forest along the river, and during summer visitors often play in the cool river shoals just below the covered bridge. The park has a dedicated equestrian camping area near horse stables, popular with horse owners. At Victoria Bryant State Park, visitors can hike short nature and longer perimeter trails through hardwoods, fish two stocked ponds, use a seasonal swimming pool, and play the on-site Highland Walk Golf Course. Creek swimming with natural rock slides draws families during summer months.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel here. Days are warm, humidity is lower than midsummer, and state park sites book up on weekends but are usually easier to secure midweek. Wildflowers and river levels peak in April and May. Summer brings heat, humidity, and afternoon thunderstorms. Lake Hartwell is at full pool for boating and swimming, and shaded state park sites are in high demand. Reserve early for holiday weekends. At Watson Mill Bridge, weather conditions significantly impact the primitive creek-side sites, and campers should avoid them during rainy periods due to flooding potential. Winter camping is possible but limited. The main campground at Watson Mill Bridge operates from March through November, while the equestrian campground several miles away stays open year-round. Private parks and Hartwell Lakeside KOA Holiday generally operate year-round, so cold-weather RV travelers should filter to those options. Freezing nights occur in December, January, and February, though extended cold snaps are typically short.

Expect wooded, rolling terrain and a mix of hookup levels. Georgia state park sites in this area typically offer water and electric hookups but not full sewer, with a central dump station. Sites at Watson Mill Bridge include 30-amp electric and water, with a mix of pull-through and back-in sites and a dump station at the park. Victoria Bryant offers water and electric sites that can accommodate RVs up to 50 feet. Access matters for larger rigs at Watson Mill Bridge. The covered bridge itself has a 9-foot clearance and 3-ton weight limit, so RVs should follow signage to the main campground entrance rather than attempting to cross the bridge. Cell coverage is spotty in wooded and creek-bottom sites but improves near bathhouses and main park roads. Plan to leash pets on all park trails, and buy firewood locally to avoid moving pests.
