Campgrounds near Cedartown, Georgia
Cedartown sits in Polk County in northwest Georgia, about an hour and a half west of Atlanta and close to the Alabama state line. The area draws RV travelers thanks to its position at the western terminus of the Silver Comet Trail, its rolling foothills scenery, and easy access to both metro Atlanta and Rome, Georgia. The town itself is the county seat and is known for Big Spring, a large natural limestone spring, and a historic downtown.
Campground options within a short drive cover a range of styles. Highland Park Off-Road Resort caters to off-road and ATV enthusiasts, while Cedar Creek RV Park and Outdoor Center offers a more traditional RV setup close to town. Brushy Branch Campground and The Rock RV Park provide additional rural options, and Chief Ladiga Trail Campground puts riders directly on the cycling corridor that continues west into Alabama.
Most sites in the region are privately operated, so amenities, hookups, and pet policies vary property to property.
Things to do around Cedartown
Cycling is the headline activity. The Silver Comet Trail runs 61.5 paved miles from Smyrna west to the Alabama state line near Cedartown, where it joins the 33-mile Chief Ladiga Trail to form a continuous paved rail-trail of roughly 94 miles ending in Anniston, Alabama. The route is largely flat, non-motorized, and shared with walkers, runners, equestrians, and inline skaters.
In town, visitors can walk to Big Spring Park, explore the downtown historic district, and stop at the Cedartown Welcome Center located along the trail. Outside town, RVers use Cedartown as a base for day trips to Rome, the Coosa River corridor, and the off-road terrain that draws visitors to Highland Park Off-Road Resort.

Cedartown has a humid subtropical climate. Summers are long, hot, and muggy, with July highs near 88 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit and high humidity from June through August. Afternoon thunderstorms are common, and shaded or full-hookup sites with working air conditioning are worth prioritizing in July and August.
Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel. Daytime temperatures typically run in the 60s to upper 70s Fahrenheit, and cyclists using the Silver Comet Trail favor mid-March through May and mid-September through October. March is historically the wettest month, so expect occasional washout days.
Winters are short and relatively mild. January is the coldest month, averaging a high near 50 degrees Fahrenheit and lows around 34 degrees Fahrenheit. Snow is rare and light when it occurs, but overnight freezes happen, so RVers should be ready to protect water lines. Precipitation is spread through the year, with an annual total near 50 inches.

How to book
Campgrounds near Cedartown are almost entirely privately owned, so reservations are handled directly with each property rather than through a central park-service portal. Booking by phone or through the campground's own website is typical, and cancellation policies, minimum-night rules, and rig-length limits vary.
Spring and fall weekends fill first, especially around Silver Comet Trail events, ATV weekends at Highland Park Off-Road Resort, and Atlanta-area holiday getaways. Booking four to eight weeks ahead is a reasonable target for those windows. Weekdays and mid-winter dates are usually easier to secure on short notice.
When reserving, confirm hookup amperage, sewer availability, Wi-Fi or cellular coverage, and whether the site can accommodate a tow vehicle or trailer in addition to the RV.
What to expect on the ground
Sites near Cedartown range from wooded pull-throughs to open gravel pads. Terrain in Polk County is rolling rather than mountainous, so leveling is manageable at most parks, though a full leveling kit is still useful. Tree cover is common, which helps with summer heat but can affect satellite reception and solar charging.
Cell coverage is generally solid on major carriers along US-27 and near town, and weakens on backroads and deeper into the ridges toward Alabama. Grocery, fuel, and propane are available in Cedartown and in Rockmart to the east.
Wildlife includes deer, raccoons, and the usual southeastern insects. In summer, mosquitoes and ticks are active, so bring repellent and check for ticks after hiking or cycling. Firewood should be bought locally to avoid moving pests.

On RVezy, travel trailers typically start around $90 to $150 per night, campervans run $150 to $225, and Class C motorhomes average $175 to $275 nightly. Because Cedartown is a small town along the Silver Comet Trail rather than a major tourist hub, you often find better value than booking near Atlanta. Many Polk County hosts also offer multi-night discounts for stays of 5+ nights, perfect for biking longer stretches of the trail.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Cedartown,GeorgiaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Cedartown, Georgia?
Great news for first-timers: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Cedartown, Georgia. The state of Georgia does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for personal motorhomes or travel trailers used recreationally, no matter the size. You'll need to be 25 or older to book on RVezy, and we verify your ID through the platform during checkout, so there's no paperwork to mail or extra steps at pickup. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home country license plus an International Driving Permit. From there, your host walks you through everything at pickup, so even if it's your first time renting an RV, you'll roll out of Polk County feeling confident.
dds.georgia.gov/license-classes-descriptionsWhat's included to protect me during my Cedartown RV rental?
You're covered from the moment you hit the road. Every RV rental in Cedartown booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance. During checkout you choose the level of protection that fits your trip, and that coverage handles most accidental damage to the vehicle so you don't have to stress about a rock chip on US-27 or a scrape at a tight campground turn. Review the protection options before you book so you can match coverage to how far you're going, whether that's a quiet weekend at Cedar Creek or a longer Georgia RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I cancel my Cedartown RV booking if my plans change?
Yes, and that's exactly why so many travelers feel comfortable booking ahead. RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not the individual host), and it includes a money-back grace period right after booking, plus structured refund tiers depending on how far out from your trip date you cancel. The same policy applies across every Cedartown listing since it's platform-wide. If a host cancels on you, RVezy issues a refund or travel credit so your plans stay on track. Book early to lock in the best RVs near the Silver Comet Trail, then revisit your plans as the date approaches knowing you have flexibility built in.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Cedartown?
Absolutely, and Cedartown is a fantastic dog town. Many hosts on RVezy offer pet-friendly RV rentals in Cedartown, and you can find them in seconds by toggling the Pet-Friendly filter on the search page. Once you've found a match, message the host before booking to confirm pet fees and any size or breed notes. For walks, Big Spring Park in downtown Cedartown has wide paved paths around the historic spring, and the Silver Comet Trail welcomes leashed dogs along its route. Many private RV parks in the area also welcome pets with grassy sites for a pup to stretch out after a day on the road.
gastateparks.org/PetPolicyCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Cedartown?
Yes, and RV delivery in Cedartown is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if it's your first time. Many RVezy hosts in Polk County and the surrounding Rome and Cartersville area offer delivery directly to local campgrounds, John Tanner State Park, or a private property of your choice. They'll level the rig, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Use the Delivery filter when searching, then message the host with your destination address to get an exact quote, since fees are typically based on round-trip mileage. Delivery is a game-changer if you want to ride the Silver Comet Trail without ever driving the RV yourself.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Cedartown,GeorgiaHow does mileage work, and how far can I drive from Cedartown?
You have plenty of range to play with. Each host sets their own mileage policy on RVezy, and many Cedartown-area listings include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with some offering RV rentals with unlimited mileage, perfect for a longer Georgia road trip. From Cedartown you can easily reach Atlanta in about 1 hour 15 minutes (65 miles), Chattanooga, TN in roughly 1 hour 45 minutes (90 miles), Helen, GA in about 2 hours 45 minutes (130 miles), the Great Smoky Mountains in about 3 hours 30 minutes (170 miles), and Savannah in roughly 5 hours (310 miles). Check the mileage allowance on each listing before booking so you can match the rig to your route without surprise overage fees.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Cedartown,GeorgiaWhere are the best campgrounds near Cedartown for RV camping?
You've got excellent choices within an hour of town. Cedar Creek RV Park in Cave Spring (about 14 miles north) offers full-hookup sites along a scenic creek and welcomes big rigs. John Tanner State Park in Carrollton (about 30 miles south) has a swimming lake and electric/water sites with a central dump station. For waterfront RV camping, Weiss Lake in Centre, Alabama (about 45 minutes west) has several RV parks with lake views. Closer to home, the Silver Comet Trail corridor has a few small private campgrounds in Rockmart. Book 4 to 8 weeks ahead for spring and fall weekends, since these fill quickly with Silver Comet cyclists.
gastateparks.org/JohnTannerWhen is the best time of year for a Cedartown RV trip?
Cedartown's sweet spots are spring and fall. April through early June brings highs of 70 to 85 F, wildflowers along the Silver Comet Trail, and comfortable nights perfect for campfires. September through early November is arguably even better: highs of 65 to 80 F, lower humidity, and brilliant maple and oak color around Big Spring Park. Summers (June to August) are warm and humid with highs near 88 to 92 F and afternoon thunderstorms, so plan early-morning rides and bring shade. Winters are mild with highs of 50 to 58 F and only occasional frost, making RV camping in Cedartown a true four-season possibility.
weather.gov/ffc/I've never driven an RV before. Is renting in Cedartown beginner-friendly?
Totally, and Cedartown is actually a great place for first-time renters. The roads around Polk County are wide, mostly flat, and far less hectic than driving anywhere near Atlanta. Your RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering how to drive, hook up at a campground, dump tanks, and operate the generator. You can also message them anytime during your trip if a question pops up. If you'd rather skip driving altogether, choose a host who offers delivery and they'll bring the rig straight to Cedar Creek or your driveway. Pro tip: start with a travel trailer or a Class C motorhome rental in Cedartown, both handle easily and feel manageable on US-27 and GA-100.
dot.ga.gov/DS/SafetyOperationWhat happens if I have a breakdown during my Cedartown RV trip?
You're never on your own out there. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so whether you've got a flat tire on US-27, a dead battery at a Silver Comet trailhead, or a tow situation on the way to Chattanooga, one phone call gets help dispatched. You can also message your host directly through the RVezy app for quick troubleshooting, since they know their RV inside and out. Before pulling away at pickup, snap a photo of the roadside assistance number and save your host's contact in your phone. With that 30-second prep, you're ready for anything northwest Georgia throws at you.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Cedartown RV rental across state lines or into Canada or Mexico?
Yes to most US travel, and Cedartown's location just a few miles from the Alabama line makes interstate trips effortless. You can cross into Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, the Carolinas and beyond on your RV road trip from Cedartown, since the protection plan covers US travel. Popular routes include Cedartown to the Chief Ladiga Trail in Alabama (under 30 minutes to the state line), Cedartown to Gatlinburg, TN (about 3 hours 30 minutes), and Cedartown to the Florida Panhandle beaches (about 6 hours). Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. For trips into Canada, message the host before booking since cross-border travel depends on their approval.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a Cedartown RV trip?
Fuel is one of the easier costs to plan in Georgia. Gas prices in Polk County typically run near or slightly below the national average. Travel trailers don't burn fuel themselves, but towing them with a truck usually yields 10 to 14 mpg. Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 mpg, Class B campervans get 16 to 20 mpg, and Class A coaches average 7 to 10 mpg. A 200-mile weekend in a Class C will typically run roughly $60 to $90 in gas at current prices. Fill up along US-27 or near I-20 in Bremen before heading deeper into rural Polk County, where station options thin out.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Cedartown?
Booking ahead is the smart move, especially for weekends. For Georgia State Parks like John Tanner near Carrollton, reserve through the official Georgia State Parks reservation system up to 13 months in advance; spring and fall weekends often fill 2 to 3 months out. Private parks in the Cedartown and Rockmart area typically book 4 to 8 weeks ahead for peak season, but midweek you can often score a site with a few days' notice. Holiday weekends (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day) book up first, so lock those in by February or March.
gastateparks.org/ReservationsWhat are driving conditions like around Cedartown?
Driving around Cedartown is refreshingly low-stress. US-27 is the main north-south route, wide and well-maintained with gentle terrain, and GA-100 connects you east toward Rockmart and the Silver Comet Trail. Traffic is light compared to anywhere near Atlanta. The terrain is rolling rather than mountainous, so even larger Class A motorhomes handle the roads comfortably. Watch for occasional summer thunderstorms (slow down on wet pavement) and deer around dawn and dusk on rural stretches like GA-100 between Cedartown and Rockmart. If you're heading northeast toward the Smokies or the north Georgia mountains, expect steeper grades around Ellijay and Blue Ridge. Pro tip: avoid I-285 around Atlanta during 7 to 9 AM and 4 to 7 PM if your trip routes you through the metro.
511ga.org/What amenities do campgrounds near Cedartown offer, and where can I dump tanks?
You'll find solid amenities in every direction. Cedar Creek RV Park in Cave Spring offers full-hookup sites (water, 30/50-amp electric, sewer), hot showers, and laundry. John Tanner State Park has water and electric sites with a central dump station, plus a swimming beach. Private parks around Rockmart along the Silver Comet Trail offer full hookups and cabins. For dumping tanks mid-trip, most private parks offer dump access to non-guests for a small fee (around $10 to $15). Potable water fills are available at all full-hookup parks. Top off fresh water before leaving the campground rather than searching for it on the road, especially heading into rural areas west of Cedartown.
gastateparks.org/RVCampingWhat's typically included inside a Cedartown RV rental?
More than you might expect. Most RVs on RVezy in the Cedartown area come fully equipped: queen or king beds, a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave and cookware, a bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control (AC and furnace), dining seating with seatbelts, and basic kitchen essentials. Many also offer a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, camp chairs, and a propane grill. Generators are common on Class C and Class A motorhomes for off-grid power. WiFi is usually a personal hotspot you bring, since cell signal is solid (Verizon and AT&T) around Cedartown but spotty deeper on the Silver Comet Trail. Check the listing's amenity list and message the host if you need something specific like a bike rack or linens.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Cedartown,GeorgiaWhat add-ons can I get, and how does pickup and dropoff work?
Hosts make customizing easy. Popular add-ons for a Cedartown RV rental include bike racks (perfect for the Silver Comet Trail), camping chairs and tables, linens and kitchen kits, generators, propane refills, portable grills, and pet packages. Each add-on and its price is listed right on the host's RVezy page. For pickup, you'll meet the host at their location (or have the RV delivered) for a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough covering driving, hookups, and tank dumping. Dropoff is the reverse: return at the agreed time with the tanks dumped or pay a dump fee, and the fuel topped to the level it was at pickup. Bundle a bike rack with your booking, the Silver Comet trailhead is right in downtown Cedartown.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Cedartown,GeorgiaHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and fully handled through the RVezy platform, so no cash or paper checks change hands with your host. You pay securely online when you book using a credit or debit card. A refundable security deposit is placed as a hold on your card before your trip starts, with the amount shown clearly on the listing and based on the RV's value and the host's policy. As long as you return the rig in the same condition with tanks dumped and fuel topped off, the hold is released after the trip wraps up. Take time-stamped photos of the RV's interior and exterior at pickup and dropoff, it's the easiest way to keep your deposit refund smooth and stress-free.
