Campgrounds and RV parks near Chamblee, GA

Stone Mountain Park is the anchor attraction. Guests staying at Stone Mountain Park Family Campground or Stone Mountain Campground can reach the walk-up summit trail, the Summit Skyride cable car, and the nightly Lasershow Spectacular that runs on a seasonal schedule from spring through fall. The park also operates a scenic railroad, ropes course, and lakefront beach area. Closer to Chamblee, visitors head to the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area for tubing and hiking, plus Zoo Atlanta, the Georgia Aquarium, and the Fernbank Museum of Natural History. MARTA rail stations in Chamblee, Doraville, and Brookhaven make it possible to leave the RV parked and take transit into downtown for events at Mercedes-Benz Stadium or State Farm Arena.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in the Chamblee area. March through May brings mild days, blooming dogwoods, and comfortable overnight lows, while September through early November delivers cooler evenings, fewer thunderstorms, and peak foliage across the Piedmont. Reservations at Stone Mountain Park Family Campground fill quickly on weekends in both seasons. Summer is hot and humid, with afternoon highs frequently in the upper eighties and low nineties and near-daily pop-up thunderstorms. Sites still book well ahead because of school-break demand and the nightly laser show at Stone Mountain. Shaded, full-hookup sites go first. Winter is mild compared with northern states but variable. Freezing nights occur on average around three dozen times between November and March, and short cold snaps can drop lows into the twenties. Most area campgrounds stay open year-round, though water hookups may be winterized during hard freezes and some seasonal park programming pauses until spring.

The terrain around Chamblee is wooded and rolling, with red-clay soil and mature pines and hardwoods shading most campsites. Cell coverage is strong across all major carriers, and grocery, propane, dump station, and RV service options are easy to reach within a fifteen-minute drive. Traffic is the main planning factor. I-285 and I-85 congest heavily on weekday mornings and afternoons, so time arrivals and departures outside those windows. Stone Mountain's west and main gates back up on summer weekends, and the park charges a daily parking permit separate from camping fees. Summer brings mosquitoes, chiggers, and occasional severe thunderstorms with lightning and hail. Pack bug spray, secure awnings before storms, and monitor NOAA alerts.
