Campgrounds and RV parks near Clermont, GA

Lake Lanier is the main draw. Visitors can enjoy a large sandy beach with a bath house, boating, swimming, kayaking, or stand-up paddleboarding in the lake's calm waters, plus more than 12 miles of hiking and biking trails through the hardwood forest at Don Carter State Park. Boat ramps provide quick access to the water, and the multi-use paved trail welcomes both hikers and bikers. North of Clermont, families can pan for gemstones and gold at Gold and Gem Grubbin near Cleveland. Yonah Mountain hiking, tubing on the Chattahoochee, and the Bavarian-themed shops and restaurants in Helen are all within a short drive of Cleveland-area campgrounds, including the Richard Russell Scenic Highway for a mountain drive.

Clermont has a humid subtropical climate with no dry season. Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons for RV camping, with mild days and cool nights. Wildflowers and dogwoods bloom from late March through April, and fall color typically peaks in the surrounding hills from mid-October into early November. Summer brings warm, humid weather and the heaviest lake use. Booking in advance is recommended, especially in summer, since state park sites and popular private resorts fill on weekends and around holidays. Afternoon thunderstorms are common from June through August, so RV travelers should plan for shaded sites or covered awnings where possible. Winters are cool and generally short, with occasional freezes and rare snow flurries. Leisure Acres is open year-round with daily, weekly, and monthly rates, and Don Carter State Park is also open year-round, so shoulder-season and off-peak trips are workable for travelers who want quieter sites and easier reservations.

Sites at Don Carter State Park are modern and spread out. The park offers campsites with water and electric hook-ups, and some campsites can accommodate RVs up to 40 feet in length, along with primitive tent areas and two-bedroom cottages. There is a gate code to enter after hours and a separate gate code for the campground, which keeps the loop quiet at night. Private parks in the Cleveland area lean toward full-hookup RV camping with family amenities. All Leisure Acres sites are full hook-up with both 30 and 50 amp service, and amenities include a pool, a two-acre spring-fed pond with dock for catch-and-release fishing, bathhouse, on-site laundry, a walking trail, two dog parks, and a pickleball court. Yonah Mountain Camping Resort offers tent sites and standard or pull-through RV sites with water, sewer, and 30 or 50 amp power, plus WiFi, a clubhouse, swimming pool, picnic pavilion, bath house, and playground.
