Campgrounds near Comer, Georgia
Comer sits in northeast Georgia's upper Piedmont, about 20 miles east of Athens and within a short drive of several established campgrounds. The area's best-known destination is Watson Mill Bridge State Park, home to the longest covered bridge in Georgia, spanning 229 feet across the South Fork of the Broad River. The park is a compact base for RV travelers, tent campers, and equestrian visitors, with a separate horse-camping area near stalls.
Beyond Watson Mill, options widen quickly. Victoria Bryant State Park lies roughly 20 miles north near Royston, offering a small campground alongside a full 18-hole golf course. The Rivers Edge Members Only Resort is closer to town for private-park stays, and Georgia RV Park adds another local option for full-hookup travelers.
For a more amenity-heavy stop, the Commerce/Athens KOA sits west of Comer near I-85, with a swimming pool, dog park, playground, and camping cabins in addition to standard RV sites.
Things to do near Comer
The signature draw is the covered bridge at Watson Mill Bridge State Park, which visitors can walk across to reach picnic areas along the river. Below the bridge, water cascades over well-worn rock shoals that families use for wading and splashing in summer. The park also has hiking, biking, and horseback trails through hardwood forest along the South Fork of the Broad River, plus quiet water on the mill pond.
At Victoria Bryant State Park, a creek waterslide known as Sliding Rock is a summer favorite, and two stocked ponds hold bass, catfish, and carp. The park's Highland Walk Golf Course is one of only eight courses in the Georgia state park network. Athens, roughly 20 miles west, adds the State Botanical Garden of Georgia and University of Georgia attractions.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel around Comer. Daytime highs in April and October sit in the 70s Fahrenheit, humidity is manageable, and hardwood forest along the South Fork of the Broad River shows its best color in late October and November. These shoulder seasons also line up with peak weekend demand at Watson Mill Bridge and Victoria Bryant, so reservations should be locked in well ahead.
Summers are warm and humid, with the maximum temperature reaching 90 degrees Fahrenheit or higher on roughly half the days from June through August. That heat drives visitors to the shoals at Watson Mill Bridge and to Sliding Rock at Victoria Bryant, and it fills family sites during school vacation.
Winters are mild by regional standards. Cold spells tend to be short-lived, broken by periods of warmer southerly flow, so most outdoor activities remain workable. Rainfall is spread fairly evenly across the year, and December is typically the wettest month in the Athens area.
How to book campgrounds near Comer
Georgia's two closest state parks, Watson Mill Bridge and Victoria Bryant, both take reservations through the Georgia State Parks system operated on ReserveAmerica. Sites can be booked up to 13 months in advance for out-of-state visitors and 14 months in advance for Georgia residents, which matters for holiday weekends and any date tied to University of Georgia football in Athens. Watson Mill Bridge has around 32 tent and RV sites plus a separate equestrian loop, while Victoria Bryant is smaller and includes elevated platform sites that fill quickly.
A daily ParkPass is required for each vehicle at Georgia state parks, and overnight guests pay it only once per stay. Private options such as the Commerce/Athens KOA, Georgia RV Park, and The Rivers Edge Members Only Resort book directly through their own websites or, in the KOA case, through koa.com.
What to expect on arrival
RVers heading to Watson Mill Bridge State Park should enter from Highway 22, not through the covered bridge itself, which has a 9-foot clearance and a 3-ton weight limit. Equestrian campers use the Highway 72 entrance. Inside the park, sites are wooded with electric and water hookups, and a dump station is available on site.
Expect a quiet, wooded setting rather than a resort layout at the state parks. Cell coverage varies. Supplies including groceries, fuel, and basic camping goods are available in Comer, with a fuller selection in Athens about 20 miles away. The Commerce/Athens KOA offers full hookups, WiFi, and a seasonal pool for travelers who want more amenities.

gastateparks.org/WatsonMillBridgeCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Comer?
Yes, RV delivery Comer is one of the best perks of booking through RVezy, especially if you're new to RVing. That means you can fly into Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson, rent a car for the 90-minute drive to Comer, and arrive to a fully set-up campsite. Use the Delivery filter while searching to see hosts who offer this service. Pro tip: delivery fees are typically based on mileage from the host's location, so booking with a nearby host saves money.
gastateparks.org/WatsonMillBridgeHow far can I drive on my Comer RV rental?
You've got plenty of range to explore on your Comer RV trip. Most hosts include a daily mileage allowance (often 100 to 150 miles per day), and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is perfect if you're planning a longer road trip from Comer. Each listing clearly displays the mileage policy and any per-mile overage rate before you book. From Comer, popular drives include Athens (25 miles), Tallulah Gorge State Park (60 miles), Helen in the North Georgia mountains (75 miles), Atlanta (90 miles), and the Great Smoky Mountains around Cherokee, NC (160 miles). Pro tip: if you're planning to chase fall color in the Blue Ridge, prioritize a listing with unlimited or generous mileage to keep your trip stress-free.

Victoria Bryant State Park in Royston (25 minutes north) has a peaceful 9-hole golf course and shaded sites. For a more rustic feel, Broad River Campground offers tubing right outside your door. weather.gov/ffc/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay?
You're going to do great, and Comer is actually one of the friendliest places for a first time renting an RV. Roads through Madison County are wide, quiet, and lightly trafficked compared to Atlanta, so you'll build confidence quickly. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on walkthrough at pickup, showing you how to operate the slides, water system, generator, and hookups, and you can text them throughout your trip with questions. Many hosts also offer delivery and setup, which removes the driving anxiety entirely. Pro tip: start with a 2 or 3 night booking at Watson Mill Bridge State Park, only 10 minutes from town, so you've got a soft landing spot to learn the ropes before any bigger adventures.
gastateparks.org/WatsonMillBridgeWhat happens if my RV breaks down near Comer?
You are never alone on the road. Every RVezy booking with a protection plan includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so whether you have a flat tire on Highway 72, a dead battery at Hart State Park, or a propane issue in the middle of the night at Watson Mill Bridge, help is one phone call away. Your host is also a direct resource and usually answers texts quickly with troubleshooting tips, and RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after every trip. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number to your phone the moment you confirm your booking, and snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate during your walkthrough so you can share details fast if needed.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my Comer RV rental on a longer road trip?
Yes, Comer is a fantastic launch pad for an RV road trip in any direction. Popular routes include heading north into the Blue Ridge Mountains via Helen and Tallulah Gorge (75 to 100 miles), east to Charleston, SC (250 miles), south to Savannah and Tybee Island (270 miles), or west to Chattanooga, TN (200 miles). Interstate travel within the US is allowed on most RVezy rentals, and many hosts welcome multi-state trips. Travel into Mexico is not permitted because insurance coverage does not extend there. Confirm your mileage allowance and any cross-border rules with the host before booking. Pro tip: a 7 to 10 night booking opens up the entire Southern Appalachians with room to slow down and enjoy.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a Comer RV trip?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost, but Georgia keeps it manageable. Gas prices around Comer typically run slightly below the national average, and you'll find affordable stations along Highway 72 and in Athens just 25 miles away. Class B campervans and small travel trailers get 15 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes average 10 to 14 MPG, and larger Class A rigs run 7 to 10 MPG. For a 300 mile weekend loop through Watson Mill Bridge, Tallulah Gorge, and back, budget around $80 to $150 in fuel for a mid-size motorhome. Pro tip: fill up in Athens or Royston rather than at interstate exits to save 20 to 40 cents per gallon, and use the GasBuddy app to find the cheapest pump nearby.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Comer?
For the best campgrounds near Comer, plan to reserve 3 to 6 months ahead for prime weekends from April through October, especially holiday weekends like Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day. Georgia State Parks, including Watson Mill Bridge, Hart, and Victoria Bryant, accept reservations up to 13 months in advance through the official ReserveAmerica system. Midweek stays and winter trips are often bookable just days ahead. For private parks like Broad River Campground, call directly because they sometimes hold sites not visible online. Pro tip: if your dream weekend is sold out, set a daily alarm to check ReserveAmerica at 9 AM — cancellations happen constantly and you can snag a freed-up site within hours.
gastateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are driving conditions like around Comer, GA?
Driving an RV around Comer is refreshingly easy. Highway 72 (the main route to Athens) and Highway 98 are wide, well-maintained two-lane roads with light traffic and gentle terrain in the Georgia Piedmont. There are no mountain passes or extreme grades in Madison County, so you won't be white-knuckling any descents. Watch for occasional deer at dawn and dusk on rural roads, and slow down through small downtowns like Comer, Carlton, and Danielsville where speed limits drop to 35. If you head north toward Helen or Tallulah Gorge, you'll hit some curvy mountain roads — take them slow in a larger rig. Pro tip: avoid downtown Athens during University of Georgia football Saturdays in fall when traffic gets heavy.

Mileage policies vary by listing and are shown clearly before booking. gastateparks.org/WatsonMillBridgeHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure. When you book your campervan rental in Comer or any other RV on RVezy, you pay through the platform using a credit or debit card. Your booking total includes the nightly rate, any add-ons, taxes, and the protection plan tier you selected. A refundable security deposit is held separately on your card before your trip starts, and it is released after the host confirms the RV was returned in good condition. To avoid deposit issues, do a thorough walkthrough at pickup, take photos of any existing scratches or dings, and return the RV clean with the tanks emptied. Pro tip: ask the host upfront about refueling and dump-station expectations to keep your full deposit.

Comer is a wonderful spot for a family RV trip Comer because it combines small-town charm with easy access to kid-friendly adventures.
