Campgrounds and RV parks near Cornelia, GA

Cornelia sits in Habersham County in northeast Georgia, at the edge of the Blue Ridge foothills and within short drives of Lake Lanier, Lake Yonah, and the Chattahoochee National Forest. The town's elevation of roughly 1,486 feet gives it slightly cooler summer nights than the Piedmont below, and its position on US-441 puts most regional campgrounds inside a one-hour radius. RV travelers have a mix of options in the area. Leisure Acres Campground and Yonah Mountain Camping Resort serve travelers who want full hookups near town, while Grove River Ranch, LLC - Equestrian Center and Retreat caters to guests bringing horses. Lake Yonah Par by Georgia Power provides basic lakeside sites on a Georgia Power reservoir framed by steep granite canyon walls, and Don Carter State Park anchors the region as the only Georgia state park on Lake Lanier. Most trips combine a base campground with day drives to Tallulah Gorge, Helen, and the apple orchards along the Cornelia to Ellijay corridor.

Georgia State Parks sites, including Don Carter State Park, can be booked up to 13 months in advance, with Georgia residents allowed to book up to 14 months in advance, through the Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites website or by phone. Booking early is strongly advised for summer weekends and any fall color weekend. Private campgrounds such as Leisure Acres Campground and Yonah Mountain Camping Resort typically take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone, and Grove River Ranch, LLC - Equestrian Center and Retreat handles horse-camper bookings the same way. Lake Yonah Par by Georgia Power operates as a basic utility-managed campground with limited amenities, so travelers should confirm current site availability, access rules, and any seasonal closures with Georgia Power before arrival. A ParkPass is required for all vehicles at Georgia State Parks and is not included in reservation fees.
