Campgrounds and RV parks near Crawford, GA

The signature draw is Watson Mill Bridge State Park. The park is home to a 229-foot covered bridge, the longest covered bridge in Georgia, spanning the South Fork of the Broad River and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. On-site activities include hiking trails, five miles of bike trails, equestrian trails, canoe rentals, and fishing. During summer, visitors often play in the cool river shoals just below the bridge. For motorized recreation, Durhamtown Plantation Sportsmans Resort offers ATV, dirt bike, side-by-side, and 4x4 trails across roughly 6,750 acres in Greene County, plus rentals, cabins, RV and tent sites, skeet shooting, fishing, and hunting. Families based near Lake Oconee use North Shore Landing Resort for boating, fishing, and lake swimming. Athens adds college-town restaurants, the Georgia Museum of Art, and Bulldogs game days for those willing to drive in.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel. Daytime highs are mild, humidity is manageable, and the Piedmont hardwoods put on visible color changes in late October and early November. The main tent, trailer, and RV campground at Watson Mill Bridge operates from March through November, while an equestrian campground several miles away stays open year-round. Booking early for spring wildflowers and October foliage weekends is advised. Summer brings hot, humid days with frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Highs regularly reach the upper 80s to low 90s, and river shoals and lake beaches become the main relief. With only 21 tent, trailer, and RV sites available at Watson Mill Bridge, a reservation is strongly recommended, especially during peak camping season from March to November. Winter is quieter and cooler, and freezing nights do occur. Rainfall is spread through the year, and multiple campers warn against creek-side primitive camping during wet periods due to flooding potential. Private, year-round parks like Pine Lake RV Campground and North Shore Landing Resort remain the main options during the closed months.

Sites near Crawford lean rural and wooded rather than resort-style. At Watson Mill Bridge, 21 sites spread across a wooded campground that closes for winter months, with both pull-through and back-in sites offering 30-amp electric and water hookups, plus three primitive walk-in sites along the creek. Most sites sit on level gravel pads under mature trees. Sites do not include full hookups, only electric and water, and there is a dump station at the park. Private parks generally offer full hookups and more amenities. Durhamtown Plantation has around 100 RV sites with full hookups, tent camping, a bath house, and an on-site restaurant. Cell service can be spotty at creek level within the state park but improves near the bathhouse and along the wooded corridors east of Athens.
