Campgrounds and RV parks near Dexter, GA

Fishing, paddling, and golf drive most trips in this area. Little Ocmulgee State Park and Lodge sits on a lake with a boat ramp, and a swimming beach that typically operates from late May into early September. Anglers target largemouth bass, crappie, and other warm-water species from shore or by boat. On land, the park's 2.6-mile hiking trail winds through river bottomland, sand hills, and oak forest, with a boardwalk into a cypress swamp. The Wallace Adams Golf Course, a splash pad, a swimming pool at the lodge, and lakeside playgrounds keep families busy. Off-park, the Dublin area adds small-town dining and seasonal events, with easy day trips to Macon, about 30 miles northwest of Dexter.

Spring is the most comfortable season for RV travel in central Georgia. March through May brings warm days, cool nights, and blooming dogwood and azalea. Anglers do well for bass, bream, and crappie, and trails at Little Ocmulgee are pleasant before the heat sets in. Book weekends early during spring break and around Memorial Day. Summer is hot, humid, and busy. Highs commonly reach the low 90s with high heat index values, and afternoon thunderstorms are frequent. The Little Ocmulgee swim beach, splash pad, and lodge pool run from late May into early September, making the park a strong family pick, but bring insect repellent for mosquitoes and biting flies. Fall shifts to drier, milder weather and is one of the best windows for camping. October is typically the driest month. Winter is mild by North American standards, with daytime highs often in the upper 50s to low 60s. Freezes occur but rarely last, and quieter campgrounds mean easier last-minute bookings.

At Little Ocmulgee, sites sit under oaks and Spanish moss with trees and shrubs between pads for privacy. Sites use packed gravel and are generally level, though some pull-throughs may need leveling blocks. Not all sites have full hookups or 50-amp service, and a dump station is available in the campground. Private parks in the area tend to be small, quiet, and pet-friendly, with full hookups and laundry access common. Grocery and fuel stops are easy in Dublin and Eastman, both a short drive from Dexter.
