Campgrounds and RV parks near Doerun, GA

Reed Bingham State Park is a 1,613-acre Georgia state park in Colquitt and Cook counties, surrounding a 375-acre lake, with the 3.5-mile Coastal Plains Nature Trail that passes through a baldcypress swamp, a pitcher plant bog, and sandhill area. The lake is popular with boaters and skiers, fishing for bass, crappie, catfish, and bream is productive, and paddlers can rent canoes and kayaks to explore water lily and tupelo shoreline. Closer to town, families can visit the Museum of Colquitt County History and the Colquitt County Arts Center in Moultrie. Colquitt County also has multiple hunting preserves offering dove, turkey, deer, quail, and duck seasons, and Chehaw Park in Albany adds a zoo, splash pad, and playground suited to kids.

In this part of south Georgia, summers are long, hot, and muggy, winters are short and cold, and it is wet and partly cloudy year round. Spring and fall are generally the best windows for RV travel, with milder temperatures and lower humidity making outdoor activities more comfortable. March through May and October into November are the sweet spots, with pleasant days and manageable overnight lows. Summer brings peak heat and humidity, with afternoon thunderstorms common and biting insects active near lakes and swamps. Atlantic hurricane season overlaps late summer and early fall, and inland storms can still affect campgrounds and trails. Reed Bingham State Park was impacted by Hurricane Helene; the park is open and restoration is in progress, most trails have been re-opened as debris has been cleared, and damaged boardwalk sections remain closed as repairs continue. Winter is the quietest season for camping and a good time for wildlife viewing. Nesting bald eagles are often seen along the lake in winter, alligators sun along the water's edge in warmer months, and thousands of black and turkey vultures roost in the trees during the colder months.

Expect a rural, agricultural landscape of pine, pecan, and row-crop fields, with quiet county roads and small-town services. Grocery and fuel runs are easiest in Moultrie, Albany, or Tifton rather than Doerun itself. Cell coverage is generally reliable along the highways and thins on backcountry farm roads. Most private RV parks in the area lean toward full-hookup pull-through sites suited to Class A and fifth-wheel rigs, and several cater to long-term guests and workers. At Reed Bingham, Loop 2 adds sewer connections with 50-amp service, a dump station is available on-site, and nearly all sites are pull-through, which is a practical advantage for larger rigs. Pack for heat, sun, and biting insects in the warmer months, and watch for alligators near lake edges and boat ramps.
