Campgrounds near East Point, Georgia
East Point sits just southwest of downtown Atlanta and next to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, putting RV travelers within a short drive of both the city core and the wooded outskirts of the metro. There are no full-service RV parks inside East Point itself, so most travelers base themselves at private parks in surrounding suburbs and use I-285, I-75, and I-85 to reach city attractions.
Close-in options include Sweetwater Creek RV Reserve in Austell, a 96-site park with full hookups and both 30 and 50 amp electric service, along with Atlanta-Marietta RV Resort to the northwest and Atlanta South RV Resort south of the city. Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, roughly 30 miles south, offers RV and tent sites tied to the racing venue, and Jones RV Park rounds out the nearby choices.
Most parks in this corridor cater to a mix of overnight travelers, weekend visitors for Atlanta events, and long-term guests, so booking pattern and site type matter more here than in a purely tourist market.
Things to do near East Point
Sweetwater Creek State Park, roughly 15 miles west, is the closest major outdoor draw, with trails along a Chattahoochee tributary, mill ruins, and a reservoir for paddling and fishing. The Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area strings together additional day-use units north of the city for hiking, tubing, and fishing.
Inside the perimeter, families can reach the Georgia Aquarium, World of Coca-Cola, Centennial Olympic Park, Zoo Atlanta, and the Atlanta Botanical Garden within about 20 to 30 minutes from most nearby RV parks. Six Flags Over Georgia sits just off I-20 west, close to the Austell campgrounds.
For motorsports fans, the track in Hampton, rebranded from Atlanta Motor Speedway to EchoPark Speedway in 2025, hosts two NASCAR Cup Series race weekends each year, with on-site camping tied to the race schedule.

The East Point area has a humid subtropical climate with four usable RV seasons but noticeable heat and humidity in midsummer. Spring, from March through May, and fall, from late September through early November, are the most comfortable stretches, with mild days, cooler nights, and lower humidity than the peak summer months.
Summer brings frequent afternoon thunderstorms and highs regularly near 90 degrees, so shaded sites, working air conditioning, and early-morning outdoor plans matter. Hurricane remnants moving inland from the Gulf or the Atlantic can produce heavy rain and wind in late summer and early fall, and Atlanta-area campgrounds occasionally host evacuees from coastal storms.
Winters are generally mild but variable. Freezing temperatures happen on about 36 nights a year on average, roughly November through March, and once a year the temperature typically fails to rise above freezing all day. Snow is rare, averaging only about 2 inches annually, but ice storms can briefly close roads.

How to book campgrounds near East Point
Private RV parks around East Point, including Sweetwater Creek RV Reserve, Atlanta-Marietta RV Resort, Atlanta South RV Resort, and Jones RV Park, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone, and many also list availability through third-party platforms. Long-stay demand is high in this corridor, so booking several weeks ahead is wise, and months ahead for holiday weekends and major Atlanta events.
For state park camping at nearby units such as Sweetwater Creek and Red Top Mountain, reservations run through the Georgia State Parks system at GaStateParks.org/Reservations or by phone. Non-residents can book up to 13 months in advance, and Georgia residents up to 14 months in advance.
Race-weekend camping at EchoPark Speedway is sold as event packages, with availability tied to the track schedule.
What to expect on arrival
Most parks in the East Point corridor are compact suburban RV parks rather than resort-style destinations. Expect paved or gravel pads, full hookups with a mix of 30 and 50 amp service, on-site laundry, and basic bathhouses. Many nearby parks host a mix of travelers and long-term guests working in the Atlanta area, which can affect atmosphere and site turnover.
Access roads through metro Atlanta traffic can be slow, especially on I-285 and I-75 during weekday rush hours, so planning arrivals mid-morning or early afternoon helps. At Georgia State Parks, a ParkPass is required for all vehicles and is not included in the reservation fee. Passes can be purchased at the visitor center on arrival or online in advance.

Winters are mild for the South (lows in the 30s to 40s F) and many campgrounds stay open year-round, making RV camping East Point a true four-season option.
weather.gov/ffc/I've never rented an RV before. Will I get help at pickup?

RVezy's customer support is available to help if you ever feel stuck on your East Point RV trip.

RVezy's support team is available before, during, and after your trip to help coordinate repairs or rebookings.

nps.gov/chat/index.htmWhat kind of fuel economy and gas budget should I plan for?
Budgeting fuel for your East Point RV trip is straightforward. Travel trailers don't burn their own fuel, but expect your tow vehicle's MPG to drop by 30 to 40 percent. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A motorhomes typically run 6 to 10 MPG. Gas prices in metro Atlanta are usually near or slightly below the national average, and you'll find diesel and unleaded at large truck-friendly stations along I-285, I-75, and I-85. Tip: fill up at QuikTrip or RaceTrac on Camp Creek Parkway before heading north for competitive pricing.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campsite near East Point?
For the best campgrounds near East Point, plan to reserve 2 to 4 months ahead, especially for spring and fall weekends. Stone Mountain Park, Red Top Mountain State Park, and Sweetwater Creek State Park book through the Georgia State Parks reservation system (gastateparks.org) and fill quickly on holiday weekends like Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) campgrounds around Lake Allatoona and Lake Lanier book through Recreation.gov up to 6 months in advance. Tip: midweek arrivals (Sunday through Wednesday) often have same-week openings even in peak season.
recreation.gov/What are local driving conditions like around East Point and Atlanta?
Metro Atlanta driving is busier than it looks on the map, but it's manageable in an RV with a few smart habits. Rush hours (roughly 7 to 9 am and 4 to 6:30 pm weekdays) are the main times to avoid. Most RV drivers use the I-285 perimeter to skirt downtown rather than threading the Connector (I-75/85). East Point itself has flat suburban streets that are easy to maneuver. Watch for low-clearance bridges in older Atlanta neighborhoods, particularly downtown and around Midtown. Summer thunderstorms can pop up fast, so check radar before pulling out. If city driving feels intimidating, book delivery and let the host handle it.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=East%20Point%2C%20GeorgiaHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment for your East Point RV rental is handled entirely through RVezy's secure online platform, no cash or paper checks change hands with the host. You pay your booking total (rental cost, protection plan, fees, and taxes) by credit card when you confirm, and RVezy holds funds in trust until your trip begins. A separate refundable security deposit is pre-authorized on your card before pickup, with the amount set by the host and shown on the listing. As long as you return the rig clean, with tanks emptied per host instructions, fuel topped off, and no damage, the hold is released after your trip. Photograph the RV at pickup and dropoff to avoid disputes.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I drive my East Point RV rental to Florida, Tennessee, or across state lines?
Yes, interstate travel from East Point is allowed with most RVezy hosts, just confirm your route with the listing owner before booking. Popular runs include I-75 south to Florida's Gulf Coast (about 6 hours to Panama City Beach), I-24 northwest to Nashville (about 4 hours), and I-85 northeast to the Carolinas and Asheville (about 3 to 3.5 hours). Cross-border trips into Canada are allowed with many hosts and RVezy insurance coverage extends, but always confirm with the host. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage stops at the border. Tip: download GasBuddy and Recreation.gov apps before you leave for a smoother long-haul road trip.
