Campgrounds and RV parks near Elberton, GA

Water recreation drives most trips. Richard B Russell State Park has multiple boat ramps, a seasonal swimming beach, kayak and canoe rentals, and the 18-hole Arrowhead Pointe Golf Course, plus roughly six miles of hiking and biking trails and a disc golf course. Anglers target bass, crappie, bream, and catfish on Lake Russell, and Calhoun Falls State Park offers a lighted fishing pier and marina access on the South Carolina shore. Watson Mill Bridge State Park draws visitors for its 229-foot covered bridge, cool river shoals below the bridge in summer, and miles of horseback-riding trails with on-site stables and stalls. Bobby Brown Park adds archery, disc golf, a swinging bridge, and access to Clarks Hill Lake.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel around Elberton. March through May brings mild days, blooming hardwoods, and manageable humidity, while September through early November delivers drier, clearer weather and cooler nights. Wildflowers and dogwoods are common in April, and lake temperatures warm enough for swimming by late May. Summer is peak season at every lakefront park. Weekends at Richard B Russell State Park and Calhoun Falls State Park fill months in advance, and holiday weekends often require booking as early as the reservation window opens. Expect hot, humid afternoons, frequent pop-up thunderstorms, and warm evenings. Winter is quiet and often overlooked. Richard B Russell State Park stays open year-round, as do Bobby Brown Park and the equestrian campground at Watson Mill Bridge. The main Watson Mill Bridge campground typically closes for several weeks during the off-season, so RVers should confirm dates with the park before booking. Freezing nights are common in January, so plan for hose and tank protection.

Sites at Richard B Russell State Park include 30-amp electric and water, grills or fire rings, a dump station, and coin laundry, with pads accommodating rigs up to about 35 feet. Some sites also have cable TV hookups. Calhoun Falls State Park has paved pads with water and electric service and a dump station, with lakefront loops that can hold larger rigs, though there are no individual sewer hookups. Watson Mill Bridge State Park is more compact and wooded. RV drivers should enter from Highway 22 because the covered bridge has a 9-foot clearance and 3-ton weight limit. Cell coverage is spotty at creek level, and primitive creek-side sites can flood in heavy rain. Bobby Brown Park offers water and electric hookups with 30 and 50-amp service, a dump station, comfort stations, laundry, and public Wi-Fi in many areas of the park.
