Campgrounds and RV parks near Evans, GA

Water recreation drives most trips. Clarks Hill Lake (also called J. Strom Thurmond Lake) has public boat ramps, a swim beach at Mistletoe State Park, and shoreline fishing for bass, crappie, and catfish. Mistletoe also offers about 15 miles of shaded hiking and biking trails through surrounding forest. Land activities include the Euchee Creek Greenway and Savannah Rapids Park in Evans itself, plus riverfront walking and biking along the Augusta Canal. Hamilton Branch has a short trail that connects to the Stevens Creek Bike Trail on adjacent Corps of Engineers land. In Augusta proper, plan for the Augusta Canal National Heritage Area, Riverwalk Augusta, and the Morris Museum of Art. During the first full week of April, Augusta National hosts the Masters, and lodging and RV sites across the region fill months in advance.

The Central Savannah River Area has a humid subtropical climate. Augusta has hot summers and mild to cold winters with strong seasonal contrast, rainfall spread relatively evenly through the year, heavy summer downpours and afternoon thunderstorms, with fall the driest stretch. Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons for camping. Summer highs regularly push into the low 90s Fahrenheit with high humidity, so shaded lakefront sites at Mistletoe State Park and Hamilton Branch State Recreation Area are prized. Afternoon storms are common and can be intense; RVers should watch radar and secure awnings. Water levels on Clarks Hill Lake can shift with Corps of Engineers releases, which affects shoreline camping and swim areas. Winter is mild but not tropical. Frost and occasional freezes happen, and some private parks reduce services. Mistletoe State Park operates its campground year-round, and Hamilton Branch also stays open through the winter, though red clay access roads can become messy after heavy rain. Early April brings peak demand around the Masters.

Private parks near Evans lean utilitarian rather than resort-style. Expect full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service, gravel or paved pads, reliable WiFi, and easy interstate access, but limited on-site recreation. Heritage RV Park, Plantation Oaks RV Park, and Carolina Hill Mobile Home and RV Park cater primarily to work travelers, monthly guests, and Masters-week visitors. State-park campgrounds trade amenities for setting. Mistletoe's campground sits on a peninsula on Clarks Hill Lake with tree-lined, shaded sites, back-in and pull-through options, and electric and water hookups. Hamilton Branch is spread across a 731-acre peninsula in Lake Strom Thurmond; most sites have paved parking pads, a table, and a fire ring, with two boat ramps for lake access. Larger rigs should confirm site length before booking, as spurs vary.
