Campgrounds near Franklin Springs, Georgia
Franklin Springs sits in Georgia's upper Piedmont in Franklin County, just west of Royston and roughly 90 minutes northeast of Atlanta. The area gives RV travelers quick access to a mix of state park campgrounds, private RV parks, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers lakefront sites on Hartwell Lake, one of the most popular Corps reservoirs in the nation.
The closest overnight option is Victoria Bryant State Park, a 502-acre state park set in the rolling hills of the Piedmont, with a stream running through the property, two fishing ponds, and the Highland Walk Golf Course. A short drive east leads to Hartwell Lake, where nearly 56,000 acres of water and 962 miles of shoreline surround Corps-operated campgrounds and day-use areas.
Private options add flexibility for full-hookup travel. Rock Springs RV Park in nearby Lavonia and Hartwell Lakeside KOA Holiday sit close to I-85, while The Rivers Edge Members Only Resort caters to members. Together the cluster covers weekend lake trips, longer family stays, and quick overnight stops off the interstate.
Things to do near Franklin Springs
Water recreation drives most trips. Hartwell Lake supports boating, water skiing, swimming, and fishing for largemouth bass, hybrid and striped bass, crappie, bream, and catfish across its 56,000-acre reservoir. Boat ramps, swim beaches, and day-use areas are spread around the shoreline at Corps sites and nearby state park access points.
On land, Victoria Bryant State Park offers a full slate of family activities. The park has hiking, creek exploration, fishing, platform camping, and a full golf course, and Sliding Rock draws summer visitors with a natural creek waterslide. Hikers can follow a short nature trail or a longer perimeter trail through hardwoods and creek crossings, two ponds are open for public fishing, and a swimming pool operates during summer.
Off-park attractions include small-town dining in Royston and Lavonia, antique shopping, and short drives to additional Piedmont state parks.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel in this part of the Piedmont. Days warm quickly by April, hardwoods leaf out, and overnight lows stay cool enough for campfires. Fall brings drier weather and color in the oak and hickory canopy through October and into early November.
Summer is the busiest season. Hartwell Lake, the Victoria Bryant pool, and Sliding Rock all pull heavy family traffic from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and lakefront Corps sites fill fastest on holiday weekends. Warm, moist air from the Bermuda High drives frequent afternoon and evening thunderstorms through spring and summer, so plan outdoor activities around passing storms.
Winters are mild but wet. Georgia winters bring mild temperatures and little snowfall, with the potential for snow and ice increasing in the northern Piedmont. Victoria Bryant's campground is open year-round, and most Corps loops at Hartwell stay open through the season, though some seasonal loops close between late fall and early spring.
How to book campgrounds near Franklin Springs
Georgia State Parks use a central reservation system. Campground and shelter reservations at Victoria Bryant can be made up to 13 months in advance through the Georgia State Parks reservation system, and a daily ParkPass is required for vehicles, with overnight guests paying only one ParkPass fee for the duration of their stay.
Corps of Engineers campgrounds around Hartwell Lake book through Recreation.gov, which lists 12 campgrounds and associated day-use facilities around the reservoir. Standard campsites open on a six-month rolling window, while some shelters and group sites open up to 12 months ahead. Lake Hartwell State Park on the South Carolina side uses the South Carolina State Parks system and requires a minimum two-night stay for camping reservations.
Private parks such as Rock Springs RV Park and Hartwell Lakeside KOA Holiday take reservations directly through their own websites. Book summer weekends and holiday periods several months out.
What to expect at campgrounds
Sites in the area range from primitive tent pads to paved full-hookup pull-throughs. Corps campgrounds around Hartwell are known for lakefront settings, with water and 50-amp electric standard at most RV sites, comfort stations, and dump stations, though not every loop offers showers or sewer at the site. Victoria Bryant's campground provides water and electric hookups, hot showers, laundry, and covered platform sites with power and water.
Rock Springs RV Park in Lavonia offers full-hookup RV sites with 30/50 amp power, water, and sewer, plus Wi-Fi, a bathhouse, laundry, a community room, a pavilion, a playground, and a fenced dog park.
Expect wooded, hilly terrain, gravel access into some Corps loops, and cell service that varies by cove. Bring leveling blocks, as many lake sites slope toward the water.
