Campgrounds and RV parks near Glennville, GA

At Jack Hill State Park, guests can rent boats and kayaks, fish the lake, and play Brazell's Creek Golf Course, an 18-hole course on the property. Land-based recreation includes hiking trails, biking, geocaching, nature observation, and a family playground, which is useful for families traveling with kids. Off-park, the Ohoopee and Altamaha rivers offer paddling, bass fishing, and river access points. Glennville itself sits in Vidalia-onion farm country, and day trips reach Savannah's Historic District, Fort Stewart, and the Georgia coast within about 60 to 90 minutes by road. The area is part of Georgia's Wiregrass and Woodpecker Trails region, which links birding and driving routes through Tattnall County.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons for RV travel in south Georgia. From March through May, daytime highs move from the low 70s into the mid-80s Fahrenheit, insect pressure is lower, and campgrounds are easier to book midweek. Fall brings similar temperatures through October, with cooler, drier nights arriving in November. Summer is hot and humid, with highs frequently in the low 90s and afternoon thunderstorms common. Rainfall is spread relatively evenly through the year, though summer is the wettest season and can bring heavy downpours. Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, with peak risk from late August into October, and inland Tattnall County can still see tropical rain and wind from landfalling systems. Winters are mild. Freezing nights occur but daytime highs typically reach the low 60s, so state park and private campground sites in this part of Georgia generally stay open year-round, making Glennville a viable cool-season base for travelers heading between the Southeast coast and interior Georgia.

Expect flat, sandy terrain with tall pines, live oaks, and Spanish moss. Sites in the region are generally level and pull-throughs are common, which suits first-time renters. Jack Hill State Park has a small, well-spaced campground with modern bathroom and shower facilities. The park is within a few minutes of basic amenities like gas, groceries, and fast food, with the nearest Walmart about 30 minutes away in Vidalia. Cell coverage is generally reliable along the U.S. 280 and U.S. 301 corridors but can drop off on river-access roads. Bring insect repellent from spring through fall, expect biting flies and mosquitoes near water, and pack a rain plan for summer afternoons. Alligators are present in area rivers and ponds, so keep pets leashed and away from the water's edge.
