Camping near Gresham Park, Georgia
Gresham Park sits in DeKalb County just southeast of downtown Atlanta, close to I-285 and I-20. The area works well as a base for RV travelers who want quick access to Atlanta attractions without parking a rig in the city core. Most nearby campgrounds cluster to the east around Stone Mountain, with additional metro options south along I-75.
The closest full-service option is Stone Mountain Park Family Campground, a lakeside campground inside Stone Mountain Park with over 400 RV, pop-up, and tent sites, plus yurt and safari tent rentals. It is sometimes listed under the shorter name Stone Mountain Campground on booking platforms. Stone Mountain Heights RV-Mobile Home Park offers a smaller, longer-stay style property nearby.
For travelers arriving from the south, Atlanta South RV Resort in McDonough sits just off I-75, roughly a half-hour drive from downtown Atlanta. Jones RV Park is another regional option for RV travelers routing through the metro area.
Things to do near Gresham Park
Stone Mountain Park is the dominant draw, with a granite dome hike, the Summit Skyride, a scenic railroad, and seasonal laser shows. Trails circle the lake and connect to the campground, and the park runs family attractions and events throughout the year.
Closer to Gresham Park, families can bike and hike the paved paths at Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area and the PATH trails along the South River. Downtown Atlanta is a short drive for the Georgia Aquarium, World of Coca-Cola, Zoo Atlanta, and the Atlanta BeltLine.
For day trips, the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area offers tubing and fishing north of the city, and Panola Mountain State Park adds guided hikes and paddling closer to home.

Spring and fall are the prime windows for RV travel in the Atlanta area. March through May brings mild days, blooming dogwoods and azaleas, and lower humidity than summer. October and November deliver cool nights, changing leaves, and some of the region's driest weeks, which makes hiking at Stone Mountain more comfortable.
Summer is peak family-travel season and also the busiest booking window. Highs regularly reach the upper 80s and low 90s Fahrenheit, humidity is high, and afternoon thunderstorms are common. Sites at Stone Mountain Park Family Campground fill weeks in advance around Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day weekends, when the park runs its largest seasonal events.
Winter is mild by North American standards but can be wet, with March typically the wettest month of the year. Freezing nights occur from November through March, and occasional ice storms can affect travel. Most private RV parks in the metro area, including Atlanta South RV Resort, stay open year round, which makes the region a viable winter stopover for snowbirds heading further south.

How to book a campground near Gresham Park
Stone Mountain Park Family Campground takes reservations through its own booking platform, which runs on Campspot. Book early for holiday weekends and for lakefront sites, since those are the most in demand. The campground is also listed as Stone Mountain Campground on Campspot and some third-party sites.
Atlanta South RV Resort accepts reservations online and by phone, with pull-through and back-in sites and full hookups including 50 amp service. Stone Mountain Heights RV-Mobile Home Park and Jones RV Park lean toward direct phone booking; call ahead to confirm nightly availability, since some sites are held for longer-term guests.
For any metro Atlanta stay, check the campground's rig-length limits and Interstate access before locking in, especially for larger Class A motorhomes.
What to expect on the ground
Traffic is the single biggest planning factor. I-285, I-20, and I-75 all run near Gresham Park, and rush-hour delays are heavy on weekday mornings and late afternoons. Time arrivals and departures outside those windows, especially with a towed vehicle.
Stone Mountain Park Family Campground is a large, wooded property with a swimming pool, laundry, camp store, and comfort stations. Campers should scout site photos before booking, since some sites sit close together and shade varies. Atlanta South RV Resort skews toward practical stopover use with a pool, laundry, and easy interstate access.
Expect summer thunderstorms, active insects including mosquitoes and fire ants, and warm nights. Pack for humidity, bring bug repellent, and confirm shade and hookup type at your specific site.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Gresham%20Park%2C%20GeorgiaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Gresham Park?
Good news: your regular Class C driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Gresham Park. The Georgia Department of Driver Services does not require a commercial driver's license for recreational vehicles used for personal travel, so even larger Class A motorhomes are covered under a standard license. To book on RVezy, approved drivers are generally required to be 25 or older, and your ID is verified through the platform during checkout. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit and you're set. Most first-time renters are surprised how straightforward the paperwork really is.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection is included when I rent an RV in Gresham Park?
Every RV rental in Gresham Park, GA comes with an RVezy renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built right into your booking, so you're never out there alone. The protection plan helps cover damage to the vehicle during your trip, giving you real peace of mind. During checkout you'll choose your preferred coverage level, depending on how much extra protection you want. Hosts don't pick the level for you, you do. That means whether you're heading to Stone Mountain for the weekend or doing a longer Georgia RV trip, you can focus on the campfire, not the what-ifs.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Gresham Park RV booking?
You can book with confidence: RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not individual hosts), and it includes a money-back grace period right after booking so you have breathing room to lock in plans. The exact refund amount after that window depends on how far out you are from your trip start date. If a host needs to cancel, guests are refunded or offered travel credits. Because hurricanes occasionally affect travel routes from Atlanta down to the Gulf or Florida coast, it's smart to book early and review the cancellation details at checkout. If life happens, our support team can walk you through your options.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Gresham Park?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental Gresham Park options are plentiful. Just use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) in their rigs, and message them ahead of time about any size or breed notes. Gresham Park itself sits minutes from leash-friendly green space, and nearby Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area and Stone Mountain Park both allow leashed pets on most trails. Sweetwater Creek State Park, about 25 minutes west, is a fantastic day trip with dog-friendly riverside paths. Pro tip: pack a collapsible water bowl and a tie-out for your campsite, since Georgia summer heat means shaded breaks matter.
gastateparks.org/PetsCan a host deliver the RV to my campground or address near Gresham Park?
Yes, RV delivery is one of the most popular options on the platform, especially for first-timers renting in Gresham Park. Many local hosts will drive the RV straight to your driveway, a vacation rental, or directly to a campground like Stone Mountain Campground or Sweetwater Creek RV Reserve, then level it, hook it up, and walk you through every system before they leave. Delivery fees are set by the host and typically scale with distance. Use the Delivery filter when searching to instantly see hosts who offer it. It's the easiest way to enjoy RV camping in Gresham Park without ever towing or maneuvering a big rig yourself.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Gresham%20Park%2C%20GeorgiaHow far can I drive on an RV trip from Gresham Park?
You can go just about anywhere from Gresham Park: Atlanta is one of the most connected metros in the Southeast. Popular RV road trip from Gresham Park routes include the Blue Ridge Mountains (about 1.5 hours north), Savannah and Tybee Island (roughly 4 hours southeast), the Great Smoky Mountains near Gatlinburg (about 3.5 hours northeast), Chattanooga, TN (under 2 hours), and the Florida Panhandle beaches (about 5 hours south). Each host sets their own mileage policy, and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage which is gold for road-trippers. Always confirm the mileage allowance on the listing page before booking, and ask about additional miles upfront if you're planning a big loop.
dot.ga.gov/DriveSmartWhat are the best campgrounds near Gresham Park?
You're spoiled for choice on the best campgrounds near Gresham Park. Stone Mountain Campground (about 20 minutes east) offers hundreds of sites inside a large park with a laser show, lake, and hiking. Sweetwater Creek State Park in Lithia Springs (about 30 minutes west) is wooded and close to beautiful waterfall trails. Atlanta South RV Resort along I-75 is convenient for southbound trips. For something quirkier, McKinney Campground on Lake Allatoona (about 45 minutes north) has lakeside sites with electric and water hookups. Pro tip: Stone Mountain books out months ahead for fall and holiday weekends, so reserve early through stonemountainpark.com to lock in your spot.
gastateparks.org/StoneMountainWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Gresham Park?
Spring (mid-March through May) and fall (late September through November) are the absolute sweet spots for an RV trip from Gresham Park. Daytime temperatures hover in the comfortable 65 to 78 degree Fahrenheit range, humidity drops, and the dogwoods and fall colors are stunning, especially up toward the North Georgia mountains. Summer (June through August) is hot and humid with regular afternoon thunderstorms and highs in the upper 80s to low 90s, so plan on full hookups to run the air conditioning. Winter is mild (40s to mid-50s during the day) and great for off-season pricing, with occasional frost but rarely snow. Atlanta's pollen can be intense in April, so pack allergy meds if you're sensitive.
weather.gov/ffc/climateI've never rented an RV before. What should I expect at pickup?
First time renting an RV? You're going to be fine, and your host is the secret weapon. At pickup, the owner will give you a full walkthrough of every system: water, propane, generator, slide-outs, awning, leveling, dumping the tanks, and how to hook up at a campsite. Most orientations run 30 to 60 minutes, and you can record video on your phone for reference. If you'd rather skip driving entirely, pick a host who offers delivery and setup so you start your Gresham Park RV trip already parked and powered up. Message your host with questions before booking, day-of, or mid-trip. They want you to succeed.
exploregeorgia.org/things-to-do/outdoors-natureWhat if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You're covered around the clock. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so if you get a flat tire on I-285, run into battery trouble at a Lake Lanier campsite, or need a tow off the side of US-78, help is one phone call away. Your host is also available by message for quick questions, and RVezy's customer support team can step in if something bigger comes up. Save the roadside number in your phone before you leave Gresham Park, and snap photos of the rig at pickup so any issue is well documented. The vast majority of trips go off without a hitch, and when they don't, you're not handling it alone.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Gresham Park rental on a cross-state road trip?
Yes, interstate travel is fully fair game and one of the biggest perks of an RV rental in Georgia. From Gresham Park you can easily roll into Tennessee, the Carolinas, Alabama, or Florida, all without any special paperwork. Just confirm the host's travel policy on the listing (a few set state limits) and message them if you're planning something epic like a Smoky Mountains to Asheville loop. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Canada-bound trips from Georgia are rare due to distance but possible with host approval. Pro tip: the coastal Charleston-to-Savannah run is a fan favorite from Atlanta.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Gresham Park RV trip?
Fuel is usually the second-biggest line item after the rental itself, but it's easy to budget. Most Class C motorhomes around Atlanta get 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG), Class B campervans manage 16 to 20 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (typically 10 to 14 MPG combined). Georgia gas prices tend to run below the national average, and you'll find plenty of large-rig-friendly stations along I-75, I-20, and I-285. For a 300-mile weekend loop in a Class C, plan roughly $100 to $150 in fuel. Pro tip: use the GasBuddy app and fill up in Georgia before crossing into pricier states like North Carolina or Florida.
gasprices.aaa.com/state-gas-price-averages/How far in advance should I book a campground near Gresham Park?
Earlier is better, especially for the prime spots. Georgia State Parks (including Stone Mountain, Sweetwater Creek, and Red Top Mountain) accept reservations up to 13 months in advance through gastateparks.org, and the best lakeside and pull-through sites disappear fast for spring weekends, summer holidays, and fall color season. Aim for 3 to 6 months out for peak weekends and 2 to 4 weeks for off-peak. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers sites on Lake Lanier and Lake Allatoona book through recreation.gov on a 6-month rolling window. Pro tip: if you strike out, check Tuesday mornings, when cancellations often free up unexpectedly.
gastateparks.org/CampingWhat are the local driving conditions like around Gresham Park?
Gresham Park sits inside metro Atlanta, so the main thing to plan around is traffic, not terrain. I-285 (the Perimeter) and I-20 get heavy between 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. on weekdays, so try to roll out mid-morning or after dinner. The roads themselves are flat and well-maintained, with no mountain passes until you head north past Cartersville. Watch for low clearances in older neighborhoods and downtown Atlanta (some bridges are under 12 feet) and stick to interstates and major US routes with a tall rig. Summer afternoon thunderstorms can pop up quickly, so check radar before driving. If city driving makes you nervous, book a host with delivery and you'll never have to navigate I-285 yourself.
511ga.org/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Gresham Park?
Most campgrounds within an hour of Gresham Park offer the full setup: water and electric hookups (30 and 50 amp), dump stations, hot showers, flush toilets, and laundry. Stone Mountain Campground, Sweetwater Creek RV Reserve, and Atlanta South RV Resort all have full-hookup pull-through sites, and Georgia State Park campgrounds include free dump station access for registered guests. Cell service is solid almost everywhere in metro Atlanta, and many private parks add Wi-Fi and cable. For potable water fills on the road, state park campgrounds and most truck stops along I-75 and I-20 are reliable stops. Pro tip: pack a 25-foot drinking-water hose and a basic surge protector. They'll save your trip more than once.
gastateparks.org/CampingWhat's typically included inside an RV rental in Gresham Park?
You'll be impressed by how move-in ready these rigs are. A typical motorhome rental Gresham Park listing includes a queen or king bed, kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink, indoor bathroom with shower and toilet, dining area, air conditioning, furnace, and a TV (many with streaming or DVD). Most sleep 4 to 8 people with seatbelts for travel-mode passengers, and Class C and travel trailer rentals often add bunk beds for kids. Generators, solar, and outdoor speakers are common upgrades. Wi-Fi varies, so confirm with the host if you need to work remotely. Check the listing's amenity list and message the owner if you have a must-have item, they'll tell you exactly what comes packed.
exploregeorgia.org/things-to-do/outdoors-nature/camping-rv-parksWhat add-ons and pickup options are available for a Gresham Park RV rental?
Hosts in the Gresham Park area offer some genuinely useful add-ons: linen and kitchen kits ($30 to $75), camping chairs and outdoor rugs, propane refills, generator hours, bike racks, portable grills, and even pre-stocked groceries. Many also offer delivery (often $2 to $4 per mile) which is a game changer if you'd rather not drive a big rig through Atlanta traffic. Mileage policies vary by listing, with daily allowances often between 100 and 150 miles plus a per-mile overage fee, and some hosts advertise unlimited mileage for longer trips. Pickup and dropoff times are flexible, just coordinate directly with your host. Pro tip: bundle delivery plus a linen kit and you'll arrive to a fully made campsite.
exploregeorgia.org/atlantaHow does payment and the security deposit work when I rent an RV in Gresham Park?
Payment is simple and fully handled on the RVezy platform: you'll pay your rental total at booking using a credit or debit card, with no cash or off-platform transfers required. A refundable security deposit is also placed on your card before the trip starts, separate from your booking payment, and the amount varies by host and RV class. As long as the RV comes back in the same condition it left, your deposit is released after the trip. To avoid surprises, do a thorough video walkthrough at pickup and dropoff with your host, refill the propane and fuel as agreed, and empty the tanks if that's part of your agreement.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park or stay overnight in an RV around Gresham Park?
You've got great options for where to park an RV in Gresham Park and the broader Atlanta area. Established campgrounds like Stone Mountain Campground, Sweetwater Creek RV Reserve, McKinney Campground on Lake Allatoona, and Atlanta South RV Resort are your best bets for legal, hookup-equipped overnights. The City of Atlanta and DeKalb County (where Gresham Park is located) restrict overnight RV parking on residential streets, so don't plan to boondock curbside. A few Cracker Barrel and Walmart locations along I-285 allow overnight stays with manager permission, useful for a quick travel-day rest. For a true insider move: Indian Springs State Park (about an hour south) is one of Georgia's oldest state parks and rarely fills up midweek, even in peak season.
