Campgrounds near Hampton, Georgia

Hampton sits in Henry County, Georgia, about 30 miles south of downtown Atlanta and just off I-75. The area functions as a practical base for RV travelers heading to race weekends, exploring the southern Atlanta metro, or continuing south toward Macon. Most nearby camping options fall into two categories: event-focused speedway camping and quieter state-park campgrounds a short drive down the interstate. Atlanta Motor Speedway anchors the town itself, with hundreds of acres of on-property camping used during NASCAR weekends and other events. A few miles away, Atlanta South RV Resort offers full-hookup private sites for travelers who want standard resort amenities year-round. To the south along I-75, High Falls RV Park and Tiny Home Community, the River campground at High Falls State Park, and Indian Springs State Park round out the options. High Falls and Indian Springs are both within easy reach of Hampton, and each puts campers next to water, trails, and historic features that work well for family stays.

Things to do near Hampton

Motorsports drive much of the local calendar. Atlanta Motor Speedway hosts NASCAR Cup Series weekends and other racing and fair events throughout the year, with tram service connecting campgrounds to the grandstands. Outside race weekends, families typically head south to the state parks. High Falls State Park is named for the cascades on the Towaliga River, and visitors can hike along the river to the ruins of an old hydroelectric power plant, rent boats on the lake, fish for hybrid and white bass, and swim in the seasonal pool. Indian Springs State Park offers wading in Sandy Creek, swimming and boating on McIntosh Lake, mini golf, a seasonal museum covering Creek, resort, and CCC history, and access to the stone Spring House built by the Civilian Conservation Corps. A 3.25-mile trail links the park to nearby Dauset Trails, a nature center with additional hiking and mountain-bike routes.

Short mild winters; easiest season to book state park sites

Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons for RV travel in this part of central Georgia. Daytime highs run mild, humidity is lower than in midsummer, and the state park campgrounds around High Falls and Indian Springs book heavily on weekends. Spring also aligns with the Ambetter Health 400 NASCAR weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway, which pulls thousands of RVs into Hampton and can affect traffic and grocery availability for several days. Summer brings hot, humid conditions and frequent afternoon thunderstorms, with July typically the wettest month of the year. The swimming pool at High Falls State Park and the lakes at both state parks make the heat manageable for families, but shaded sites fill quickly. Winter is short and mild. Sites are easier to book, though some seasonal amenities such as the outdoor pool at High Falls and the small museum at Indian Springs operate on limited hours or close entirely.

Working with Rob was wonderful. We had a medical issue that required a shift in dates and possible postponement and he could not have been more accommodating. We are new to rv travel and he gave thorough walk through, let me record it, and was also very available via text as we had questions on the trip. The rv itself is older, which greatly helped with containing the price and Rob is generous with mileage limits. Despite an older model, everything is clean and in good working order. The beds were very comfortable. We loved getting to try out the rv life and Rob was the perfect host to let us do so.

Perfect size RV with an awesome host! We take a yearly RV camping trip with friends (12 years running). This was my second time renting from Rob and of all the hosts we have used, he is the best!!! Not only is he on top of everything, his RV has everything we need and is so easy to drive. Great experience from start to finish!

How to book campgrounds near Hampton

State park campgrounds at High Falls and Indian Springs are reserved through the Georgia State Parks system, online or by phone, up to 13 months in advance for out-of-state visitors and 14 months ahead for Georgia residents. Weekends fill quickly, especially in summer, and any sites not reserved are held for first-come, first-served arrivals. A daily ParkPass is required for each vehicle, separate from the campsite reservation. Atlanta Motor Speedway sells its own event camping directly through the speedway, with separate inventory for family, tent, dry, and full-hookup RV campgrounds. Race weekends sell out well in advance, so book as soon as the schedule is posted. Private options such as Atlanta South RV Resort and High Falls RV Park and Tiny Home Community handle their own reservations year-round through their operator websites.

What to expect on-site

State park sites at High Falls and Indian Springs are wooded and shaded, with electric and water hookups, a central bathhouse, and a dump station. Cell coverage inside Indian Springs can be weak in lower areas, and some loops are 30-amp only. Site-specific booking is now available through the Georgia State Parks system, but confirm at check-in, which for High Falls is at a separate park office rather than at the campground itself. Atlanta Motor Speedway camping ranges from grass tent sites to premium full-hookup RV pads sized for larger rigs, with pull-through and back-in options. Quiet hours vary by campground, generators are generally allowed, and pets on leash are welcome. Expect crowds, noise, and heavier traffic during race weekends; family-designated areas enforce stricter quiet hours.
