Campgrounds and RV parks near Homer, GA

Homer is the seat of Banks County in northeast Georgia, sitting in the upper Piedmont foothills between Athens and the southern Blue Ridge. The town is small, with historic sites like the Old Banks County Courthouse and the Banks County Jail, and it works well as an RV base because it sits near the intersection of I-85 and US-441, within an hour of Lake Lanier, Lake Hartwell, and the mountains around Helen and Clayton. Campground options in the area range from full-hookup private parks to Georgia State Park campgrounds. Commerce/Athens KOA and Georgia RV Park sit closest to town for pull-through, full-service stays, while Grove River Ranch, LLC - Equestrian Center and Retreat caters to travelers bringing horses. For state-park camping, Don Carter State Park on Lake Lanier offers developed RV sites with hookups, and Victoria Bryant State Park near Royston offers a smaller campground with creek access. Most trips from Homer combine one lakeside stay with a night or two closer to the mountains, using I-85 as the return route.

Georgia State Park campsites and cottages at Don Carter and Victoria Bryant are reserved through the Georgia State Parks system on ReserveAmerica or by phone at 1-800-864-7275. The booking window opens 13 months ahead for non-residents and 14 months ahead for Georgia residents. Summer weekends at Don Carter and Victoria Bryant's platform tent sites tend to fill early, and holiday weekends carry a three-night minimum. A daily ParkPass is required for parking and is separate from the site reservation. Private parks such as Commerce/Athens KOA and Georgia RV Park take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. For Grove River Ranch, LLC - Equestrian Center and Retreat, contact the property directly to confirm equestrian facilities and rig size limits before arrival.
