Camping near Jekyll Island
Jekyll Island sits on Georgia's Golden Isles coast, connected to the mainland at Brunswick by a causeway. The island is a state-managed barrier island with a compact footprint, paved bike paths, wide flat beaches, and a historic district on the interior. For RV travelers, the base of operations is Jekyll Island Campground on the island's north end, close to Driftwood Beach and Clam Creek.
Additional RV options sit just off-island along the I-95 corridor. Coastal GA RV Resort, Southern Retreat RV Park, and Huck's RV Park cover the Brunswick and Kingsland areas for travelers who want highway access, larger pull-throughs, or overflow when the island fills. Crooked River State Park, on the southern tip of Georgia near St. Marys, has campsites surrounded by palmettos and Spanish moss-draped oaks along the Intracoastal Waterway and maritime forest, and it serves as a launch point for the Cumberland Island ferry.
Expect maritime forest cover, humid coastal air, and a mix of family campers, cyclists, and anglers year-round.
Things to do near Jekyll Island
The island's flat, paved multi-use trail circles the shoreline and connects the campground to Driftwood Beach, the fishing pier at Clam Creek, the Historic District, and Great Dunes Beach Park. Bike rentals are widely available, and many families ride the loop in sections. The Georgia Sea Turtle Center on the island runs daily programs, and Summer Waves Water Park operates in the warm months.
Off-island, day trips work well from any of the nearby RV parks. Crooked River State Park is popular with anglers for its bass fishing, and other activities include boating, picnicking, birding, and exploring the park's ecosystems via trails. The Cumberland Island ferry departs from St. Marys and reaches wild beaches and free-roaming horses. Fishing charters run from Brunswick and Jekyll's own marina.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel on the Georgia coast. March through May and October into November bring warm days, cooler nights, lower humidity, and reduced storm risk. These months line up with peak booking pressure at Jekyll Island Campground, and reservations for spring break, holiday weekends, and fall shoulder season should be locked in well ahead.
Summer is hot and humid with frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Rainfall is heaviest from June through September, and hurricane season formally runs June through November with peak activity in September. Travelers should monitor National Hurricane Center advisories and be prepared for evacuation orders on barrier islands.
Winter is mild by North American standards, with daytime highs commonly in the low 60s Fahrenheit. Snowbirds and quieter-camping travelers favor December through February, though occasional cold fronts push overnight lows into the 30s. Most island amenities operate year-round.

How to book
Jekyll Island Campground takes reservations online through its official site or by phone, and applies weekend and holiday minimum-stay requirements around Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day. Confirm cancellation and early-departure policies at booking. Crooked River State Park is booked through the Georgia State Parks reservation system, with campsites reservable up to 13 months in advance, and overnight guests pay a daily ParkPass fee once per vehicle regardless of stay length. Coastal GA RV Resort, Southern Retreat RV Park, and Huck's RV Park each take reservations directly through their own sites. For spring break and holiday weekends, book several weeks to months ahead.
What to expect on site
Jekyll Island Campground sits under a live-oak and Spanish-moss canopy on the island's north end, with tent sites plus back-in and pull-through RV sites, full hookups, bathhouses, laundry, and a general store. Sites are relatively close together, and mosquito pressure is typical of coastal Georgia.
Crooked River State Park has spacious gravel pads under tall Georgia pines, with open layouts that accommodate RVs up to 60 feet across two areas connected by paved one-way roads; sites range from pull-throughs to long back-ins, and roughly half now include full hookups with sewer. Off-island RV parks along I-95 lean toward open, sunnier layouts with easier big-rig access.
Bring bug spray, sun protection, and a bike. Jekyll Island charges a separate daily parking fee at the causeway gate to enter the island.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Jekyll Island, GA?

On RVezy, travel trailers in coastal Georgia typically range from about $90 to $175 per night, Class C motorhomes generally run $150 to $275 per night, and Class A coaches and luxury fifth wheels are priced higher. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Jekyll%20Island%2C%20GeorgiaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Jekyll Island, Georgia?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Jekyll Island. Georgia does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for personal motorhomes or travel trailers in the size range you will find on RVezy. Approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID securely through the platform during checkout, so there is no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from outside the United States? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your local automobile association. Most first-time renters are surprised how quick the verification process is.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs my RV rental protected if something goes wrong on Jekyll Island?
Yes, every RV rental in Jekyll Island booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can focus on Driftwood Beach instead of worst-case scenarios. Protection plans help cover damage to the vehicle during your trip, giving you meaningful peace of mind. During checkout, you choose the protection tier that fits your comfort level, so you stay in control of your coverage. If a tire goes flat on the Sidney Lanier Bridge heading into Brunswick or you lock yourself out at Clam Creek, one phone call gets help dispatched to your location.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Jekyll Island RV trip?
Booking is low-risk because RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy across the platform. That means consistent, predictable rules whether you book a campervan rental Jekyll Island weekend getaway or a two-week family motorhome trip. There is a money-back grace period right after booking, and refund eligibility after that depends on factors like how far out your trip is. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, so if a named storm threatens Glynn County, RVezy support works with you directly. Pro tip: book early for spring break and Shrimp & Grits Festival weekends, since those sell out fast.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Jekyll Island RV rental?
Absolutely, and Jekyll Island is one of the most dog-friendly destinations on the Georgia coast. To find a pet-friendly RV rental Jekyll Island hosts welcome, toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you will see only listings that allow your pup. Dogs are allowed on Jekyll Island beaches year-round when leashed (6 ft maximum), including iconic Driftwood Beach and Glory Beach. The Jekyll Island Campground is also pet-friendly with shaded walking areas under the live oaks. Pro tip: pack a towel and a freshwater jug, since the salt marsh tides leave plenty of sand and pluff mud on paws after a beach walk near Clam Creek.
jekyllisland.com/activities/beaches/Can the RV be delivered to my campsite on Jekyll Island?
Yes, RV delivery is one of the most popular booking options for Jekyll Island travelers, especially first-timers who would rather not drive a large rig over the Jekyll Island Causeway. Many RVezy hosts in nearby Brunswick, St. Simons, and Kingsland will deliver your motorhome rental Jekyll Island setup directly to your reserved site at the Jekyll Island Campground on Riverview Drive, level it, hook up water, electric, and sewer, and walk you through every system before they leave. Apply the Delivery filter on RVezy to find these hosts. Pro tip: confirm your campsite reservation first so you can share the exact site number with your host through the RVezy message thread.
jekyllisland.com/lodging/campground/How far can I drive on a Jekyll Island RV trip, and how does mileage work?
You will find plenty of options, including RV rental with unlimited mileage from select hosts in coastal Georgia. Each RVezy listing shows the host's daily mileage allowance up front (commonly 100 to 150 free miles per day) plus the cost of any additional miles, so there are no surprises. From Jekyll Island, day trips are easy: Cumberland Island ferry departures in St. Marys are about 35 miles south, Savannah's River Street is roughly 80 miles north, the Okefenokee is about 75 miles inland, and Amelia Island, Florida is about 45 miles down the coast. Pro tip: if you are planning a longer Georgia RV road trip from Jekyll Island, message hosts who advertise unlimited miles before booking.
nps.gov/cuis/planyourvisit/directions.htmWhere should I stay with my RV on or near Jekyll Island?
You have great options for RV camping Jekyll Island visitors enjoy. The Jekyll Island Campground on the island's north end offers shaded sites under live oaks within walking distance of Driftwood Beach, with full hookups and Wi-Fi. If it is full, try Blythe Island Regional Park in Brunswick (about 20 minutes away) with waterfront sites, or Coastal Georgia RV Resort in Brunswick for resort-style amenities. Crooked River State Park in St. Marys (about 40 minutes south) is another beautiful pick. Pro tip: book the Jekyll Island Campground several months ahead for spring and holiday weekends to secure your preferred site.
gastateparks.org/CrookedRiverWhen is the best time to visit Jekyll Island in an RV?
Spring and fall are the sweet spot for a Jekyll Island RV trip. March through May brings daytime highs in the mid-70s to low 80s with lower humidity, while September through November offers 70 to 85 degree days, lighter crowds after Labor Day, and lower nightly rates on many RV rentals. Summer (June to August) is peak family beach season with highs around 88 to 92 degrees and high humidity. Winter is mild (highs in the low 60s, lows in the mid-40s) and great for snowbirds escaping northern cold. Pro tip: time your visit with the Shrimp & Grits Festival in mid-September for live music, food, and arts.
weather.gov/jax/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay on Jekyll Island?
You will do great, and Jekyll Island is one of the friendliest places in Georgia for first time renting an RV. The Downing Musgrove Causeway (the only road on and off the island) is a wide, flat divided roadway with no steep grades or tight turns. Once on the island, speed limits stay at 45 mph or less and traffic moves slowly. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup covering everything from leveling jacks to dump valves, and you can message your host through the app anytime during your trip. Pro tip: choose a Class C motorhome or travel trailer under 30 feet if you are nervous, since they handle much like a large van.
dot.ga.gov/DriveSmartWhat if my RV breaks down during my Jekyll Island trip?
You are never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and tow service across the United States, including remote spots near the Okefenokee or the marshes around St. Simons Sound. One phone number reaches a dispatcher who sends qualified help to your GPS location, whether you are at the Jekyll Island Campground or on the shoulder of I-95 near exit 29. Your host is also a message away through the RVezy app for system questions, and RVezy customer support backs you up before, during, and after the trip. Pro tip: snap a photo of the breaker panel and fuse box during your walkthrough.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Jekyll Island RV rental into Florida or other states?
Yes, an RV road trip from Jekyll Island into Florida or across the Southeast is doable on RVezy, since the protection plan and roadside assistance cover travel throughout the United States. Amelia Island and Fernandina Beach are about 45 miles south, St. Augustine is roughly 115 miles, and Walt Disney World near Orlando is about 230 miles, an easy two-day RV haul. Heading north, Savannah is about 80 miles and Charleston is around 180 miles. One rule to know: travel into Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals because insurance and protection coverage end at the border. Pro tip: confirm cross-state plans with your host through the RVezy message thread so they can adjust mileage if needed.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on my Jekyll Island RV trip?
Fuel is one of the more predictable expenses on a coastal Georgia trip because terrain is flat, which keeps mileage on the higher end of the RV range. Class C motorhomes typically get 8 to 10 mpg, travel trailers towed by a half-ton truck average 10 to 14 mpg, and Class B campervans can hit 16 to 20 mpg. Georgia gas prices usually run below the national average. The closest fuel stops to Jekyll Island are in Brunswick (about 10 miles via the causeway), including Murphy USA, Circle K, and a Pilot truck stop near I-95 exit 29 that accommodates large rigs. Pro tip: fill up before crossing the causeway, since there are no gas stations on Jekyll Island itself.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Jekyll Island?
Book early and you will have your pick of the best campgrounds near Jekyll Island. The Jekyll Island Campground accepts reservations well in advance through its online booking system, and full-hookup sites often sell out months ahead for spring break (mid-March to mid-April), holiday weekends, and the Shrimp & Grits Festival in September. Blythe Island Regional Park in Brunswick books through Glynn County's online system and fills several months out in peak season. Crooked River State Park reservations are available up to 13 months in advance via the Georgia State Parks site. Pro tip: if your dates show as unavailable, check back periodically since cancellations often free up sites.
gastateparks.org/ReservationsWhat are the driving conditions like on and around Jekyll Island?
Driving conditions around Jekyll Island are some of the easiest in the Southeast for an RV. The terrain is flat, roads are wide, and the only access is the Downing Musgrove Causeway (Georgia 520), a smooth multi-lane road with a generous shoulder and no clearance issues. On the island, the speed limit tops out at 45 mph and most roads are 35 mph or less. Watch for cyclists on the paved bike paths and the occasional white-tailed deer near the Horton House ruins at dusk. Summer thunderstorms can roll in fast off the Atlantic, so pull over and ride them out. Pro tip: avoid the causeway between 4 and 6 pm on Sundays when day-trippers head home and traffic can back up at the entry gate.
511ga.org/What amenities and hookups will I find at Jekyll Island campgrounds?
You will be well taken care of. The Jekyll Island Campground offers full-hookup pull-through sites with 30/50 amp electric, water, sewer, and cable TV, plus Wi-Fi for registered guests, bathhouses with hot showers, laundry, and a general store stocked with firewood, propane refills, ice, and RV supplies. There is a dump station on-site for anyone in a partial-hookup site. Potable water fills are easy at every full-hookup site and at the dump station. Each site has a fire ring and picnic table under live oaks dripping with Spanish moss. Pro tip: bring a long sewer hose (20 feet) since some of the larger pull-throughs place the sewer connection farther back than average.
jekyllisland.com/lodging/campground/What's inside the RVs available for rent in Jekyll Island?
Most RVs you will rent through RVezy in the Jekyll Island area come fully equipped for a comfortable coastal trip. Expect a queen or king bed, a full kitchen (fridge, freezer, stovetop, microwave, sink, cookware), a wet or dry bath with a hot shower and toilet, roof or ducted air conditioning (helpful for Georgia summer humidity), a furnace, and a propane or electric water heater. Larger Class A and Class C motorhomes often include slide-outs, multiple TVs, and onboard generators for boondocking. Seatbelts are provided for travel passengers, just confirm the count on the listing if you are a family of five or more. Pro tip: filter by sleeps count and look for listings that include beach chairs, an outdoor shower, or bikes as add-ons.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Jekyll%20Island%2C%20GeorgiaWhat add-ons and pickup options should I expect when I rent an RV in Jekyll Island?
RVezy hosts in the Jekyll Island area offer flexible options to make your trip easier. Common add-ons include camping kitchen kits, linen and bedding packages, generator hours beyond the included allowance, bikes, kayaks, beach chairs, and propane refills. Pickup is usually at the host's home base in Brunswick, St. Simons, or Kingsland, and many hosts offer delivery directly to the Jekyll Island Campground for a fee that typically scales with distance. Daily mileage allowances and pet fees are listed on each listing. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a linen package when you are flying into Jacksonville International Airport (about 75 miles south) so you can rideshare straight to the campsite.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Jekyll%20Island%2C%20GeorgiaHow does payment and the security deposit work for a Jekyll Island RV rental?
Payment is straightforward and fully handled through the RVezy platform, so you never exchange cash or cards with the host. When you book, you pay your trip total (rental, protection plan, service fee, taxes, and any add-ons) by credit card. A refundable security deposit is also pre-authorized on your card before the trip; the amount is shown on the listing and varies by RV value. As long as the RV is returned on time, clean, and undamaged, the hold is released after the trip. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos and a short video of the interior and exterior at both pickup and dropoff so any deposit questions resolve quickly.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat's a local insider tip for making the most of an RV trip to Jekyll Island?
Here is a tip locals love: head to Driftwood Beach on the island's north end about an hour before sunrise. Staying nearby at the Jekyll Island Campground, you can walk or bike over with a thermos of coffee and have the otherworldly fallen oaks almost to yourself before the photographers and day-trippers arrive. Then bike the paved trail south to the Historic District for breakfast near the Jekyll Island Club. Keep in mind that every vehicle entering the island pays a daily parking fee at the gate (your campground reservation does not cover it), so grab a multi-day pass to save time. Pro tip: visit the Georgia Sea Turtle Center on a rainy afternoon, it is the perfect indoor backup.
