Campgrounds near Lincolnton, Georgia
Lincolnton sits in Lincoln County on the western shore of Clarks Hill Lake, also known as J. Strom Thurmond Reservoir. This 71,100 acre lake is one of the largest in the Southeast and is popular with anglers and boaters, with multiple boat ramps and an accessible fishing pier. The lake straddles the Georgia and South Carolina line, so RV travelers based near Lincolnton can reach campgrounds in both states within a short drive.
The closest option is Elijah Clark State Park, located on the Georgia side just outside town. Rental cottages sit on the lake's edge, the campground is set into the forest, and tent campers get extra privacy in a walk-in section. Across the water in South Carolina, Hickory Knob State Resort Park and Baker Creek State Park both sit on the same reservoir, and Mistletoe State Park anchors the Georgia shore closer to Augusta.
Hesters Bottom Campground rounds out the nearby options for RV travelers looking for waterfront sites. Together these parks make the Clarks Hill / Thurmond corridor a practical base for a multi-night RV trip focused on fishing, paddling, and lakeside camping.
Things to do around Lincolnton
Water recreation is the main draw. Elijah Clark State Park centers on Lake Thurmond, with a sandy swimming beach, boat ramps, and opportunities for kayaking, canoeing, and fishing. Clarks Hill Lake is known as one of the top bass fishing destinations in the Southeast, with largemouth bass along with bream, crappie, and catfish.
On land, Baker Creek and Hickory Knob offer mountain biking. Baker Creek has 10 miles of rolling loop trails through oak and pine woodlands, plus lakeside camping and easy lake access for boaters. Hickory Knob adds a marina, boat ramp, skeet shooting, archery, and an 18-hole championship golf course.
Families can also visit the log cabin replica of the Clark home and the graves of Revolutionary War figure Elijah Clarke inside Elijah Clark State Park.

The Central Savannah River Area has a humid subtropical climate. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit, with mild temperatures and good conditions for hiking and paddling. Summer brings hot, humid weather ideal for swimming and boating on Clarks Hill Lake, though campsites book up quickly on weekends. Winter is quiet and generally mild, with cool days that suit fishing and trail walking.
Georgia state parks near Lincolnton, including Elijah Clark and Mistletoe, keep their campgrounds open year round. Baker Creek in South Carolina runs on a seasonal schedule, opening March 1 and closing October 31. Hickory Knob's campground is open year round.
Hurricane Helene struck this part of Georgia and left several parks with lingering damage, particularly to trails and tree canopy. RV travelers should check current trail and site status with each park before booking a fall trip, since Atlantic hurricane season runs through November and inland effects from Gulf and coastal storms can reach the CSRA.
Booking and reservations
Campgrounds around Lincolnton use two separate state reservation systems. Sites, cottages, and shelters at Elijah Clark and Mistletoe are booked through the Georgia State Parks reservation system, powered by ReserveAmerica. Online reservations open up to 13 months in advance, and lakefront spots go quickly for summer weekends.
For Baker Creek and Hickory Knob, reservations run through the South Carolina State Parks system. Reservations may be made up to 13 months in advance, and reservations requested less than one day before check-in must be made directly through the park. The minimum length of stay is 2 nights, and the maximum length of stay is 14 nights per site.
At Georgia parks, overnight guests pay a daily ParkPass fee once per vehicle for the stay, and parking is not included with the campsite reservation. Hesters Bottom Campground is a Corps of Engineers site with its own booking process, so RV travelers should confirm availability directly.
What to expect on-site
Most developed sites in the area accommodate RVs with electric and water hookups, and only a limited number offer sewer at the pad. Mistletoe State Park has 92 single-family campsites with several right on the shore of Clarks Hill Lake. All developed sites have electric hookups and most also have water, and select sites offer full hookups; back-in and pull-through sites range from 30 to 50 feet, and many are tree-lined and shaded with waterfront views.
Baker Creek offers water and electric hookups with a dump station just outside the campground, plus restrooms with hot showers and a camp store. Cell coverage can be spotty in the more rural parks, and the closest full-service grocery towns are a drive from most sites, so RV travelers should provision before arriving.

A refundable security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) is held separately from your booking payment and released after the host confirms the RV came back in good shape. To avoid any deductions, do a quick walkaround video at pickup and dropoff, return the RV with the same fuel and propane levels, and dump the tanks (or pay the add-on). Pro tip: use a credit card with travel protection, you'll have an extra layer of security on top of the platform's built-in safeguards.
