Camping near Lithia Springs, Georgia
Lithia Springs sits in Douglas County about 15 miles west of downtown Atlanta, just off Interstate 20. The area works well as an RV base for families combining city attractions with time outdoors, with Sweetwater Creek State Park inside the city limits and the Lake Allatoona recreation area a short drive north.
Sweetwater Creek State Park covers a wooded tract along Sweetwater Creek and the George Sparks Reservoir. The state park itself does not offer RV camping, so RV travellers typically stay at nearby private parks such as Sweetwater Creek RV Reserve or Atlanta-Marietta RV Resort, then drive in for day use.
North of the city, Lake Allatoona anchors a cluster of options including Red Top Mountain State Park, Allatoona Campground and Beach, and Holiday Harbor Marina and Resort. Allatoona Lake is one of the most frequently visited U.S. Army Corps of Engineers lakes in the nation, located roughly 30 miles from Atlanta, and it draws millions of visitors each year for picnicking, camping, fishing, swimming and other water sports.
Things to do around Lithia Springs
At Sweetwater Creek State Park, a wooded trail follows the creek to the ruins of a Civil War textile mill, and the reservoir supports fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and paddleboarding. During warmer months, the park rents fishing boats, canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and pedal boats. The George Sparks Reservoir is popular for fishing, but there is no beach and swimming in the reservoir is not allowed.
On Lake Allatoona, Red Top Mountain State Park offers a sand swimming beach, boat access, and interpretive programs. More than 15 miles of trails wind through the forested park, and a reconstructed 1860s cabin adds a history stop for families.
Atlanta attractions including Zoo Atlanta, the Georgia Aquarium, Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield, and White Water Park in Marietta are all within easy driving range.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons for RV camping in the Atlanta metro. Daytime highs are mild, humidity is lower than summer, and the hardwood forests around Sweetwater Creek and Red Top Mountain show wildflowers or fall color. Weekends fill quickly, so booking early is wise.
Summer brings hot, muggy weather and afternoon thunderstorms. It is also the busiest period on Lake Allatoona for boating and the beaches, and campgrounds around the lake see heavy demand. Reservable Corps of Engineers sites and state park sites near the water are typically the first to sell out.
Winter is the quietest season. Sweetwater Creek and Red Top Mountain state parks are open year-round, with reservations available up to 13 months in advance through Georgia State Parks, or 14 months for Georgia residents. Some Corps of Engineers campgrounds on Allatoona operate seasonally and close during the off months, while McKinney Campground stays open year-round. Freezing nights occur but rarely last long.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Lithia Springs, GA
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Lithia Springs, GA?
RV rental in Lithia Springs is approachable for most budgets. Travel trailers typically start around $90 to $150 per night, campervans around $150 to $250 per night, and larger Class A or Class C motorhomes around $200 to $375 per night. Because hosts on RVezy set their own nightly prices, you can find a cheaper RV rental in Lithia Springs by booking midweek, traveling in February or November when Atlanta-area demand dips, or choosing an older travel trailer with delivery included. Pro tip: bundle delivery to Sweetwater Creek State Park (only a few miles away) instead of paying mileage on a self-drive, and you will often come out ahead.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lithia%20Springs%2C%20GeorgiaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Lithia Springs?
Good news: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Lithia Springs, Georgia. Georgia does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) for personal motorhomes or travel trailers used recreationally, so a standard Georgia or out-of-state Class C license works for everything from a campervan to a 35-foot Class A. RVezy approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and your ID is verified inside the platform during booking. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home-country license. Most first-time renters in the Atlanta area are surprised how quick the verification process is.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs my RV rental in Lithia Springs protected if something goes wrong?
Yes, every RV rental in Lithia Springs booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you are covered from the moment you pick up the keys. The protection plan covers physical damage to the RV, and you choose your coverage level (not the host) during checkout, so you can pick what fits your comfort level and budget. Pick your plan at booking and head out with peace of mind, whether you are parked at Sweetwater Creek State Park or cruising up I-75 toward the North Georgia mountains.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Lithia Springs RV trip?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy (not the host) sets the cancellation policy, and you can see the exact terms that apply to your trip during checkout. After that grace window, refund amounts depend on how close you are to your trip start date. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or provides travel credit so you can rebook another rig. RVezy support is available before and during your trip to help if plans change, so you can book that Lithia Springs RV trip with confidence and finalize your campground details once you are locked in.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Lithia Springs?
Yes, plenty of hosts offer a pet-friendly RV rental in Lithia Springs, so your pup can come along for the adventure. Toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you will see rigs whose owners welcome dogs (some allow cats too). Once you are rolling, Sweetwater Creek State Park allows leashed dogs on the park trails, and nearby Boundary Waters Park in Douglasville has a fenced off-leash dog park. Heads up: pets are not permitted inside the yurts or cabins at Sweetwater Creek, but RV-friendly campgrounds nearby such as Atlanta West Campground in Austell welcome dogs. Message the host before booking to confirm pet fees and any size limits.
gastateparks.org/PetPolicyCan the RV be delivered to my campground or driveway in Lithia Springs?
Yes, RV delivery in Lithia Springs is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it is perfect if you would rather not drive a big rig through Atlanta traffic. Many local hosts will deliver and set up your motorhome rental in Lithia Springs at Sweetwater Creek State Park, Atlanta West Campground, Stone Mountain Park (about 30 miles east), or even your own driveway. They will level the rig, connect water and power, walk you through the systems, and then come back to pick it up at the end of your trip. Filter for Delivery on the search page and review each host's delivery radius and fee, which is usually quoted per mile from their location.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lithia%20Springs%2C%20GeorgiaHow far can I drive on a Lithia Springs RV trip?
You have plenty of range, and several hosts in the area offer RV rental with unlimited mileage if you ask. Most listings include a daily mileage allowance (often 100 to 150 miles per day) with a small per-mile fee beyond that, which is plenty for trips around metro Atlanta. From Lithia Springs you are about 20 minutes to downtown Atlanta, 90 minutes to Helen in the North Georgia mountains, about 2 hours to Chattanooga, TN, around 4 hours to Savannah, and roughly 5 to 6 hours to the Gulf Coast beaches near Panama City. Message the host before booking if you want unlimited miles bundled in, and many will happily customize the package.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lithia%20Springs%2C%20GeorgiaWhere should I camp near Lithia Springs?
You are spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping in Lithia Springs. Sweetwater Creek State Park (1750 Mount Vernon Road, just a few miles from town) is the local gem with yurts, walk-in tent sites, and easy hikes to the New Manchester Mill ruins; note it does not offer RV hookup sites, so larger rigs should look elsewhere. For full hookups, try Atlanta West Campground in Austell (about 6 miles away), Stone Mountain Park Campground (around 30 miles east), Red Top Mountain State Park (about 35 miles north on Lake Allatoona), and John Tanner State Park near Carrollton (about 35 miles west) with lakeside electric and water sites. Book 3 to 6 months ahead for spring and fall weekends.
gastateparks.org/SweetwaterCreekWhen is the best time to visit Lithia Springs in an RV?
Spring (mid-March through May) and fall (late September through early November) are the sweet spots for an RV trip from Lithia Springs, with daytime highs in the 65 to 78°F range, lower humidity, and gorgeous Piedmont foliage. Summer (June to August) gets hot and humid with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s and afternoon thunderstorms, but it's still great for lake days at Allatoona or Lanier if your rig has solid air conditioning. Winters are mild (40s to 50s highs) so RV camping near Lithia Springs is a year-round option, especially for snowbirds escaping the north. Local insider tip: visit Sweetwater Creek in late October for peak fall color along the Red Trail.
weather.gov/ffc/climateI've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
You're going to be fine, and Lithia Springs is actually a great place for a first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering the slide-outs, generator, water systems, propane, and dump procedure, so you won't be left guessing. If big-city driving makes you nervous, just book delivery and skip Atlanta traffic entirely. Stick to I-20 west out of town toward Tallapoosa or take Highway 92 south to escape the metro quickly. Pro tip for first-timers: practice turning in the parking lot at Sweetwater Creek's overflow area before hitting the highway, and remember most rentals here are 25 to 32 feet, which handle a lot like a large pickup truck.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/rv-safetyWhat happens if my RV breaks down on the trip?
Take a breath, you are covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so if you get a flat on I-20, a dead battery at Red Top Mountain, or a propane issue at Sweetwater Creek, one call gets help dispatched. Your host is also a great first resource for quirks specific to their rig, and most Lithia Springs hosts respond quickly through the RVezy app. The RVezy support team is reachable before, during, and after your trip. Save the roadside number in your phone when you pick up the keys and you will be ready for anything.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Lithia Springs RV rental out of Georgia?
Yes, interstate road trips from Lithia Springs are welcome. Popular RV road trips from Lithia Springs include Great Smoky Mountains National Park (about 3.5 hours north into Tennessee), the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina (around 3 hours), Charleston, SC (about 4.5 hours), and the Gulf Coast around Gulf Shores, AL (around 5 hours). Travel anywhere in the continental US is generally fine. Heads up: travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because the protection plan and insurance coverage do not extend there. If you are planning a longer multi-state route, give your host advance notice so they can confirm mileage details and any add-ons you may want.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much will fuel cost on my RV trip from Lithia Springs?
Fuel is the single biggest variable cost, but it is easy to budget once you know the numbers. Gas prices in the Atlanta metro typically run near or slightly below the national average; check current prices before you head out. Expect roughly 8 to 10 MPG for a Class A, 10 to 14 MPG for a Class C, 14 to 18 MPG for a campervan, and 12 to 16 MPG for a truck-and-trailer combo. For a 3-day weekend trip to Helen and back (about 180 miles round trip), most motorhomes burn $80 to $130 in fuel at typical prices. Pro tip: fuel up before getting on I-285, as perimeter exits often run higher than stations further out.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Lithia Springs?
For the best campgrounds near Lithia Springs, plan to reserve 3 to 6 months in advance, especially for spring and fall weekends when metro Atlanta heads out to state parks. Georgia State Parks (including Sweetwater Creek, Red Top Mountain, and John Tanner) take reservations up to 13 months ahead through the Georgia State Parks reservation system or by calling 1-800-864-7275. US Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds on Lake Allatoona and Lake Lanier book through Recreation.gov up to 6 months out. Pro tip: if your dates are full, set a cancellation alert and you will often snag a site within a week as plans shift. Booking your RVezy rental first, then matching it to campground availability, is the smoothest path.
gastateparks.org/ReservationsWhat is driving like around Lithia Springs and Atlanta?
Lithia Springs itself is easy driving (think suburban roads and the wide I-20 corridor), but plan smartly around Atlanta. Skip the I-285 perimeter between 7 to 9:30 AM and 3:30 to 7 PM on weekdays, when traffic crawls. The Downtown Connector (I-75/I-85 through downtown) fits all standard RVs, but city streets in Buckhead and Midtown have low-hanging trees and tight turns, so keep big rigs on the highways. Heading north on I-575 toward Blue Ridge or east on I-20 toward Augusta is straightforward and scenic. Local insider tip: take Thornton Road (Exit 44 off I-20) to access Sweetwater Creek and avoid the often-congested Lee Road exit.
511ga.org/What hookups and amenities will I find at campgrounds near Lithia Springs?
Most full-service campgrounds near Lithia Springs offer 30 and 50 amp electric, water, and sewer hookups, along with dump stations, hot showers, and laundry. Red Top Mountain State Park has electric and water sites, a dump station, and a Lake Allatoona swim beach. Atlanta West Campground in Austell offers full hookups and is the closest full-service RV park (about 6 miles away). Sweetwater Creek State Park has hot showers and flush toilets but no RV hookups or dump station, so plan to dump at a nearby travel center or at a full-service campground. Bring a drinking-water hose, a sewer hose, and a 30-to-50 amp adapter, just in case.
gastateparks.org/RedTopMountainWhat's inside a typical RV rental in Lithia Springs?
You'll be impressed by how livable these rigs are. Most Lithia Springs RV rentals sleep 4 to 8 people across a queen bed, convertible dinette, and bunk or sofa beds, with seatbelts for everyone traveling. Expect a full kitchen with fridge/freezer, propane stove, microwave, sink, cookware, and dishes; a wet or dry bathroom with toilet and shower; air conditioning (essential for Georgia summers); and a furnace for cooler months. Many rigs include a flat-screen TV, Bluetooth stereo, and a generator or solar setup for off-grid camping. WiFi varies by host (some include a mobile hotspot), but Sweetwater Creek and most Atlanta-area campgrounds have strong cell signal for personal hotspots. Check the listing's amenity list to match the rig to your trip.
energy.gov/energysaver/recreational-vehiclesWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about for a Lithia Springs RV rental?
Lithia Springs hosts offer a great range of add-ons to customize your family RV trip in Lithia Springs. Common extras include bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits, camp chairs and outdoor tables, generators, bike racks, kayak racks, and pet cleaning fees. Pricing varies by host and is shown on the listing. For pickup and dropoff, you can either meet the host at their location (often near I-20 in the Lithia Springs, Austell, or Douglasville corridor) or pay for delivery to your campground. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and bedding upfront in one message to the host, and you will often save versus adding them piecemeal later.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lithia%20Springs%2C%20GeorgiaHow do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. You pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card when you book, so you never hand cash to a host. A refundable security deposit (set by the host, typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the rig) is held separately from your booking payment and is only used if there is damage or a policy violation. To avoid issues, do a quick walkaround video at pickup and dropoff with your host, return the rig with the agreed fuel and propane level, and dump the tanks if your contract requires it. Your deposit is released after the trip ends, per RVezy's deposit terms.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat are the best road trip routes from Lithia Springs?
Lithia Springs is an incredible launchpad for an RV road trip. Top routes include the North Georgia Mountains loop through Helen, Blue Ridge, and Amicalola Falls (90 minutes to 2 hours north, gorgeous in fall); the Lake Allatoona and Red Top Mountain weekend (about 35 miles north, perfect for first-timers); the Chattanooga and Lookout Mountain run (about 2 hours northwest via I-75); the Savannah and Tybee Island coastal trip (around 4.5 hours east); and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park adventure (about 3.5 hours north into Tennessee, with Townsend-area campgrounds as a popular base). Local insider tip: leave Lithia Springs on a Friday before 2 PM to beat Atlanta's I-75/I-285 rush hour, and your trip starts stress-free.
