Lithonia camping overview
Lithonia sits in eastern DeKalb County, about 20 miles east of downtown Atlanta and within a short drive of some of metro Atlanta's most-used camping infrastructure. The area works well as a base for RV renters who want quick highway access to the city while still parking overnight in a wooded or lakeside setting. Interstate 20 runs directly through town, and US-78 connects north toward Stone Mountain Park in minutes.
Stone Mountain Park covers 3,200 acres of natural beauty with family adventure, historical sites, and annual events, and its campground anchors the area for many RV travelers. Nearby private options include Stone Mountain Heights RV-Mobile Home Park, Brooks Lake, and Riverside Estates RV Park, along with Jones RV Park for travelers looking for straightforward hookups outside the main tourist zone.
Georgia International Horse Park in nearby Conyers rounds out the local options and is a useful staging area for events, trail riding, and access to the Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area just south of Lithonia.
Things to do around Lithonia
Stone Mountain Park is the anchor attraction, with a walking and cycling path around the granite dome, a summit trail, a lake with boat rentals, and a cable car to the top. South of Lithonia, the Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area protects granite outcrops, wildflower flats, and the paved PATH trail system used by hikers and cyclists.
Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers offers equestrian trails, mountain-bike singletrack, and disc golf on the former 1996 Olympic venue grounds. Brooks Lake and Riverside Estates RV Park sit near quiet fishing water for slower days, and downtown Atlanta's aquarium, zoo, and museums are a straight shot west on I-20 for a day trip out of the RV.

Lithonia has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and cool winters. Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel. Daytime highs sit in the 70s Fahrenheit, humidity is manageable, and the granite outcrops around Arabia Mountain and Stone Mountain are at their most comfortable for hiking. Mid March through May and mid September through October generally deliver the best conditions.
Summer is the busiest camping season and also the hottest. August is the month with the most rainfall in Lithonia, with rain accumulating around 5.35 inches, so afternoon thunderstorms are common and outdoor activities are best planned for the morning. Bookings around Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day fill early at Stone Mountain, where holiday weekends carry a longer minimum stay.
Winters are mild but variable. Overnight freezes occur on some nights from late November through early March, so RV renters should be prepared to disconnect or drip water lines on the coldest nights.

Working with Rob was wonderful. We had a medical issue that required a shift in dates and possible postponement and he could not have been more accommodating. We are new to rv travel and he gave thorough walk through, let me record it, and was also very available via text as we had questions on the trip. The rv itself is older, which greatly helped with containing the price and Rob is generous with mileage limits. Despite an older model, everything is clean and in good working order. The beds were very comfortable. We loved getting to try out the rv life and Rob was the perfect host to let us do so.

Perfect size RV with an awesome host! We take a yearly RV camping trip with friends (12 years running). This was my second time renting from Rob and of all the hosts we have used, he is the best!!! Not only is he on top of everything, his RV has everything we need and is so easy to drive. Great experience from start to finish!

How to book a campsite near Lithonia
The Stone Mountain Park campground takes reservations online through its own site and through third-party platforms. Popular waterfront and full-hookup sites go quickly, so aim to book several weeks out for weekends and several months out for major holidays. A two-night minimum reservation requirement and a one-night deposit apply at the time of booking, except on major holidays including Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day, which require a minimum three-night stay with all three nights paid as deposit.
Cancellations more than five days before arrival receive a refund of the deposit less a cancellation fee, and cancellations within five days of arrival forfeit the deposit. Private campgrounds around Lithonia, including Stone Mountain Heights RV-Mobile Home Park, Riverside Estates RV Park, and Jones RV Park, are typically booked directly by phone or through their own booking pages, and monthly stays are common at the mobile-home-oriented parks.
What to expect on arrival
At Stone Mountain, RV renters should route carefully. GPS may route drivers to the Park's West Gate, where there is a 12-foot underpass; to avoid the low underpass, use the East Gate via Exit 8 on US-78. A one-time parking fee is required and can be purchased online in advance or at the park entrance gate upon arrival.
The campground is large and family-oriented. Most RV sites come equipped with full hookups including electricity, water, and sewer, with picnic tables, grills, and bathhouse access, plus a swimming pool, playground, supply store, and laundry. A night registration desk outside the campground office handles arrivals after the office is closed, and yurts, rental trailers, and safari tents must be checked in by 10 PM. Cell service is generally solid across the Lithonia area; site-level Wi-Fi at Stone Mountain is limited.

How much does an RV rental in Lithonia typically cost?
An RV rental in Lithonia is often more affordable than booking a hotel and rental car together. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lithonia%2C%20GeorgiaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Lithonia, GA?
A regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Lithonia. The Georgia Department of Driver Services classifies recreational vehicles outside the commercial category, so a standard Class C license covers nearly every rig on RVezy, including Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, travel trailers, and fifth wheels. Approved drivers on RVezy are generally 25 or older with a valid license, and ID is confirmed quickly through the platform. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit from your home country's auto association and you're set to roll toward Stone Mountain.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection is included with my RV rental in Lithonia?
Every RV rental in Lithonia booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit I-20 toward Arabia Mountain with peace of mind. The protection plan covers most physical damage to the vehicle during your trip, and you choose your level of coverage at checkout. It is not traditional auto insurance, but it provides meaningful financial protection if something unexpected happens. Pair that with a host walkthrough at pickup and an RVezy support team a phone call away, and a first time renting an RV starts to feel a lot more like an adventure than a leap of faith.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Lithonia RV rental?
Booking is low risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every rental in Lithonia, including a money-back grace period right after booking so you can lock in plans early without stress. The exact refund window depends on how far out you are from your trip start date, and special situations like natural disasters or major travel disruptions are reviewed by the RVezy support team. You'll see the full policy laid out during checkout before you confirm. Pro tip: if severe weather threatens your trip, message RVezy support early so your options open up fast.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Lithonia RV trip?
Yes, your pup is welcome on plenty of rigs. Filter for a pet-friendly RV rental in Lithonia on RVezy and you'll find many dog-friendly listings, often with a small pet fee. Once you're on the road, head to the Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve on Klondike Road where leashed dogs can roam granite outcrops and forest trails, or follow the paved Arabia Mountain PATH trail that connects Lithonia toward the Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Conyers. Stone Mountain Park Campground also welcomes dogs at most RV sites, so the whole family can camp together.
arabiaalliance.org/davidson-arabia-mountain-nature-preserve/Can the RV be delivered to my campground or driveway in Lithonia?
Yes, RV delivery in Lithonia is one of the most popular options on RVezy and is a game changer for first-timers. Many local hosts will tow or drive your motorhome rental in Lithonia straight to Stone Mountain Park Campground, Panola Mountain State Park, a friend's driveway in Stonecrest, or a family event near the Mall at Stonecrest. They'll level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every switch before handing over the keys. Filter listings by Delivery on RVezy to see who serves your zip code. Pro tip: ask about delivery to Stone Mountain, only a short drive from Lithonia, for an effortless weekend setup.
stonemountainpark.com/things-to-do/stay/campground/How far can I drive on a Lithonia RV trip, and is unlimited mileage available?
You have plenty of range to play with. Most hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night in their pricing, and many offer an RV rental with unlimited mileage as a flat-rate add-on, perfect for longer hauls. From Lithonia you can reach Helen and the North Georgia mountains in about 2 hours, Chattanooga in roughly 2 hours, the Great Smoky Mountains in about 3.5 hours, and Savannah's historic district or Tybee Island in around 4 to 4.5 hours. Each listing on RVezy shows the host's exact mileage policy, so you can plan your RV road trip from Lithonia with confidence.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lithonia%2C%20GeorgiaWhere are the best campgrounds near Lithonia for RV camping?
You're spoiled for choice. The best campgrounds near Lithonia start with Stone Mountain Park Campground, just a short drive away, with hundreds of wooded sites, full hookups, and lake views of the granite dome. Panola Mountain State Park in Stockbridge offers quieter, conservation-focused camping just south of town. For Class A rigs needing easy interstate access, Atlanta South RV Resort is a solid option. Lake lovers can head about an hour north to Bald Ridge Creek Campground on Lake Lanier. Pro tip for RV camping in Lithonia: book Stone Mountain well in advance for spring and fall weekends, which fill up quickly.
stonemountainpark.com/things-to-do/stay/campground/When is the best time of year to rent an RV in Lithonia?
Spring (mid-March through May) and fall (late September through early November) are the sweet spot for an RV rental in Lithonia, with daytime highs typically in the 65 to 80F range, lower humidity, and the granite outcrops at Arabia Mountain at their most photogenic. Summers run hot and humid with highs often in the upper 80s to low 90s, but RV air conditioning makes lakeside sites at Stone Mountain a comfortable escape. Winters are mild with highs in the 50s, so year-round camping really works here. Pro tip: visit in late winter to catch the rare red diamorpha blooms covering Arabia Mountain's granite.
weather.gov/ffc/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay starting in Lithonia?
You'll do great, especially in Lithonia. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering driving, hookups, slide-outs, and dumping tanks, and they are a text away during your trip. Lithonia sits right off I-20 with wide lanes and easy access east toward Augusta or west into Atlanta, so you can build confidence on flat suburban roads before tackling anything tight. For first time renting an RV in this area, start with a travel trailer or Class C motorhome under 28 feet, and book delivery so your host parks the rig for you. Pro tip: practice a few turns in a large open parking lot before heading onto I-285.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if my RV breaks down during my Lithonia trip?
You're covered, day or night. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on GA-138, a dead battery at Panola Mountain State Park, or a tow off I-20 is one phone call away from being handled. You can also message your host directly through the RVezy app, since most Lithonia owners know their rig inside and out and can troubleshoot common questions instantly. If a mechanical issue affects your trip, RVezy support steps in to help find a solution. Pro tip: snap a photo of the roadside-assistance number on the dashboard before you pull out of the driveway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Lithonia RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is wide open and one of the best parts of an RV road trip from Lithonia. You can roam freely across the contiguous United States, with popular routes heading north to the Great Smoky Mountains, west to Birmingham and Gulf Shores, or south to Florida's Atlantic beaches. Travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and their insurance, so message the host directly from the listing before booking to confirm. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage does not extend there. Lithonia's location on I-20 makes it a great launchpad for multi-state Southern loops.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for gas on a Lithonia RV trip?
Fuel is often easier on the wallet than people expect. Georgia tends to have some of the lower fuel prices in the Southeast, and Lithonia has plenty of stations along I-20 and US-78 with diesel pumps for bigger rigs. Class B campervans typically get 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A rigs run 6 to 10 MPG. For a typical 300-mile weekend loop, budget roughly $80 to $120 in fuel for a Class C, depending on current gas prices. Pro tip: top off at a major truck stop along I-20 before heading into Stone Mountain Park, where in-park fuel options are limited.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Lithonia?
Earlier is better, especially for the marquee spots. Stone Mountain Park Campground often books 4 to 6 months in advance for spring and fall weekends and holidays. Georgia State Parks like Panola Mountain and Hard Labor Creek open reservations up to 13 months out, with summer weekends filling fast. National forest sites and Army Corps of Engineers parks on Lake Lanier and Lake Allatoona use Recreation.gov on a 6-month rolling window. Pro tip: weekdays at Stone Mountain often have openings even when weekends are sold out, making a Tuesday to Thursday Lithonia getaway surprisingly easy to book.
gastateparks.org/ReservationsWhat are driving conditions like around Lithonia for RVs?
Driving an RV around Lithonia is friendlier than you might expect for a metro Atlanta suburb. I-20 runs right through town with generous lanes and gentle grades, and US-78 offers a calmer alternative toward Stone Mountain. Avoid I-285 (the Perimeter) during rush hour, roughly 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m., when traffic gets heavy, and steer clear of older downtown Atlanta routes where low railroad bridges can surprise tall rigs. Summer afternoon thunderstorms pop up quickly from June through August, so plan driving in the morning. Pro tip: take GA-124 for scenic, low-stress access to Arabia Mountain without ever touching the interstate.
511ga.org/What amenities and hookups can I expect at Lithonia-area campgrounds?
You'll find full-service comforts at most parks within 30 minutes of Lithonia. Stone Mountain Park Campground offers full-hookup sites (water, 30/50 amp electric, sewer), partial-hookup sites, hot showers, laundry, a pool, and a general store. Panola Mountain State Park provides water and electric sites with a dump station on site. Most Georgia State Parks have potable water fill-ups and dump stations available for a small fee. Cell service across the area is generally strong on major carriers. Pro tip: Stone Mountain has dump stations on the way out of the campground, so save the chore for departure day instead of mid-trip.
gastateparks.org/RVCampingWhat's inside a typical RV rental in Lithonia?
More like a rolling apartment than you might expect. A typical campervan rental in Lithonia (Class B) sleeps 2 to 3 with a kitchenette, fridge, and wet bath. Class C motorhomes sleep 4 to 6 with a queen bed, dinette, full kitchen (stove, microwave, fridge), bathroom with shower, roof AC, propane furnace, and seatbelted seats for travel. Class A rigs and larger travel trailers often add slide-outs, smart TVs, outdoor speakers, and onboard generators. Many listings note Wi-Fi hotspots, solar setups, and outdoor grills. Each RVezy listing shows a complete amenities checklist with photos, so you'll know exactly what's onboard before you book your Lithonia RV trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lithonia%2C%20GeorgiaWhat add-ons and pickup options should I look for when I rent an RV in Lithonia?
The little extras turn a good trip into a great one. When you rent an RV in Lithonia, popular host add-ons include linen and kitchen kits, camp chairs and outdoor tables, bike racks, generators for boondocking, propane tank fills, and pet-cleaning packages. Most hosts offer pickup at their home base in or near Lithonia, Stonecrest, or Decatur, and many offer paid delivery to Stone Mountain, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (roughly 30 miles away), or your chosen campground. Mileage policies usually run 100 to 150 free miles per night with a per-mile charge beyond that, or you can buy an unlimited mileage upgrade. Filter listings on RVezy to match the perks you want.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lithonia%2C%20GeorgiaHow do payment and security deposits work for an RV rental in Lithonia, GA?
Booking is smooth and fully digital. RVezy charges your card the full rental amount at booking and holds it securely until your trip starts, then releases funds to the host after you return the rig. A refundable security deposit, typically several hundred to a couple of thousand dollars depending on the RV, is pre-authorized on your card a few days before pickup and released after drop-off, assuming the RV comes back in the same condition. You'll never hand cash to the host. Pro tip: do a quick time-stamped video walkaround at pickup and drop-off with your phone to make any deposit return quick and drama-free.
