Campgrounds near Martinez, Georgia
Martinez sits in Columbia County just west of Augusta, giving RV travelers quick access to Clarks Hill Lake (also called J. Strom Thurmond Reservoir), one of the largest Corps of Engineers reservoirs in the Southeast. The area blends suburban conveniences with lakefront state parks and Corps recreation areas, so trip planners can pair full-hookup private parks with rustic public campgrounds within a short drive.
Close-in options include Heritage RV Park and Plantation Oaks RV Park, both handy for travelers who want to base near Martinez and Augusta. Carolina Hill Mobile Home and RV Park offers another nearby stay for RV travelers looking for a straightforward setup close to town.
For lake-focused trips, Mistletoe State Park on the Georgia side and Hamilton Branch State Recreation Area across the South Carolina shoreline both sit directly on Clarks Hill Lake. Both parks emphasize waterfront sites, boat access, and fishing, making them the primary public-land choices in the region.
Things to do near Martinez
Clarks Hill Lake is the anchor activity. Mistletoe State Park sits on a peninsula with boat ramps, a sandy swim beach, and shaded nature trails, and it is regarded as one of the top bass fishing spots in the country. Bikers can join the park's Muddy Spokes Club, and staff run seasonal programs including guided nature walks and astronomy events.
Across the water at Hamilton Branch State Park, most campsites face the lake, and a short bike path connects to the longer Stevens Creek Bike Trail. Self-serve kayak rentals are available lakeside through an automated kiosk.
Closer to town, RV travelers can reach downtown Augusta for the Riverwalk, restaurants, and Masters-adjacent sightseeing without a long drive.

The Martinez area has a humid subtropical climate: hot, sticky summers and short, cool winters. Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV camping, with mild days and lower humidity. Summer brings peak heat and frequent afternoon thunderstorms, and Clarks Hill Lake sees its highest use for boating and swimming during those months.
Mistletoe State Park and Hamilton Branch operate year-round, though the swim beach and other water-focused amenities are effectively summer-only. Summer weekends, spring break, and holiday weekends fill state park sites first, especially lakefront loops.
Fall is the driest stretch of the year, which makes it a favorite for extended RV trips. Winter is the quietest season and a reasonable time for cool-weather stays, though some services scale back and overnight lows can dip near freezing on the coldest mornings.
How to book campgrounds near Martinez
Georgia state parks, including Mistletoe State Park, use the state's ReserveAmerica-powered system. Reservations open up to 13 months in advance for out-of-state visitors and up to 14 months in advance for Georgia residents. Summer and holiday weekends book quickly, so reserving several months ahead is recommended for lakefront sites.
Hamilton Branch State Park is reserved through the South Carolina State Parks system, also up to 13 months in advance. There is a two-night minimum for camping reservations, and any booking made less than one day before check-in must be arranged directly with the park by phone.
Heritage RV Park, Plantation Oaks RV Park, and Carolina Hill Mobile Home and RV Park are private operators; book directly with each park by phone or their websites, and confirm rig-length limits when reserving.
What to expect on site
State park campgrounds in this area are lake-oriented and heavily wooded. Mistletoe State Park sits on a peninsula with campsites offering water views, and its main campground has water and electric hookup sites suitable for tents, trailers, and RVs. Ten fully equipped cottages, including several log cabins, are also available for those who want a break from the RV.
Hamilton Branch has around 200 single-family campsites spread across multiple loops, most with water and electric hookups and most fronting the lake. Parking spurs typically fall in the 30 to 35 foot range, with only a handful reaching 40 feet, so larger rigs should verify site length before booking.
Georgia state parks charge a daily ParkPass per vehicle that is not included in the campsite reservation. Leashed pets are permitted at both state parks.

No commercial driver's license (CDL) or special RV endorsement is required for any of the motorhomes, campervans, or travel trailers on RVezy, regardless of size. Approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and you'll verify your ID through the RVezy platform during checkout. Visiting from overseas? Every RVezy booking in Martinez includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the road with real peace of mind. During checkout you choose the level of coverage that fits your trip, and the plan covers most accidental damage to the RV itself. It provides meaningful financial protection so a minor mishap on Interstate 20 or a tight turn at a campground won't ruin your vacation. Roadside help is just a phone call away anywhere in Georgia or beyond. Pro tip: review the protection options carefully during booking, the higher tier typically pays for itself if you're new to RVing.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Martinez RV rental?
You can book with confidence: RVezy sets a clear cancellation policy on every reservation, including a money-back grace period right after you book so you have time to finalize plans. Cancellation flexibility depends on how far out from your trip you cancel and the circumstances (for example, natural disasters like a hurricane tracking up the Savannah River are reviewed with extra care). Because RVezy, not the individual host, manages cancellations, you get consistent, fair treatment no matter which Martinez RV you choose. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best rigs for spring azalea season or Masters week, knowing the grace period has you covered if your dates shift.

Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet fees and any size or breed notes, most are flexible if you ask upfront.
gastateparks.org/MistletoeStateParkCan the RV be delivered to my campground or driveway in Martinez?

Many local hosts will tow or drive the RV to your chosen campground (Wildwood Park, Petersburg, or Mistletoe State Park are common drop-offs), set up the hookups, level the rig, and walk you through every system before they leave. That means no white-knuckle driving for you, you just show up and start your vacation. Delivery fees usually scale with distance, and most hosts deliver within Columbia and Richmond counties, with many willing to go to Clarks Hill Lake or even Hilton Head. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Martinez,GeorgiaWhere are the best campgrounds near Martinez, GA?

Top picks include Petersburg Campground on Clarks Hill Lake (a Corps of Engineers park about 20 minutes north with full hookups and lakefront sites), Mistletoe State Park (Georgia state park with shaded sites, swimming beach, and miles of trails), Wildwood Park in Appling (lakeside sites just 25 minutes from Martinez), Hamilton Branch State Park across the South Carolina line, and Magnolia Springs RV Park about an hour south. For Masters week, RV camping is a local tradition, sites fill 6 to 12 months ahead. Pro tip: book Corps of Engineers sites on Recreation.gov as soon as the 6-month window opens.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/2725When is the best time to rent an RV in Martinez, GA?
Spring and fall are the sweet spots for an RV rental in Martinez, GA. From mid-March through May, daytime highs sit in the comfortable 70s and the azaleas, dogwoods, and Bradford pears put on a show across Columbia County. From late September through early November, you'll get 70 to 80°F days, lower humidity, and beautiful color along the Savannah River. Summers (June to August) are hot and humid with highs in the low 90s and afternoon thunderstorms, great for lake days at Clarks Hill but you'll want strong AC. Winters are mild (highs in the 50s and 60s), making December and January a quiet, cheap shoulder season. Pro tip: avoid Masters week in early April unless you've booked months in advance, as prices and demand both surge.
weather.gov/ffc/I've never driven an RV before. Is renting in Martinez easy for first-timers?
Yes, first time renting an RV in Martinez is honestly easier than most people expect. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the water, propane, electrical, slide-outs, generator, and dump procedures, and you can message them during your trip with questions. If driving a big rig feels intimidating, choose a smaller Class C motorhome or a campervan rental in Martinez, both handle much like a large van. Better yet, book a host who offers delivery and skip the driving stress entirely. The roads around Martinez (Washington Road, Furys Ferry, Bobby Jones Expressway) are wide and well-maintained, perfect for getting comfortable. Pro tip: do a short shake-out loop to Wildwood Park before heading farther, you'll build confidence fast.
rvezy.com/blog/first-time-rv-renter-guideWhat happens if I have a breakdown during my Martinez RV trip?
You're covered: 24/7 roadside assistance is included with every RVezy booking, so help is one phone call away whether you're on Interstate 20, deep in the Sumter National Forest, or parked at Clarks Hill Lake. Roadside service handles common issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing to the nearest qualified service center. For RV-system questions (a finicky water pump, a tripped breaker), your host is your first call, and most Martinez-area hosts respond within minutes and can often talk you through a fix. RVezy customer support is also available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: snap photos of the breaker panel and propane shutoffs during your walkthrough so you can troubleshoot faster on the road.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Martinez RV rental to South Carolina or other states?
Absolutely, crossing state lines is one of the best parts of an RV road trip from Martinez. The South Carolina border is minutes away across the Savannah River, and your RVezy rental is welcome there along with the rest of the continental US. Popular multi-state routes include Martinez to Charleston (about 2.5 hours), Martinez to Asheville, NC (about 3.5 hours), Martinez to the Florida Panhandle (about 5 to 6 hours), and a loop through the Great Smoky Mountains. One important note: travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because protection coverage doesn't extend there. Canada may be possible with host approval. Pro tip: message the host before booking if you're planning a long multi-state loop so they can confirm mileage policy.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a Martinez RV trip?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost, but it's easy to plan for. Travel trailers don't burn fuel themselves, but your tow vehicle's mileage typically drops 30 to 40% while towing. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 MPG, and big Class A rigs typically run 6 to 10 MPG. Gas in the Augusta metro area tends to be a bit cheaper than the national average, with plenty of stations along Washington Road, Furys Ferry, and Interstate 20 (Costco on Bobby Jones Expressway is a local favorite for the lowest prices). Diesel is widely available at the Pilot and TA truck stops just east of Martinez. Pro tip: download GasBuddy and fill up before leaving Columbia County for the best Georgia prices.
gasprices.aaa.com/state-gas-price-averages/How far in advance should I book a campground near Martinez?
For the best campgrounds near Martinez, GA, booking ahead pays off. Corps of Engineers sites at Petersburg, Ridge Road, and Hawe Creek on Clarks Hill Lake open reservations exactly 6 months in advance on Recreation.gov, and prime summer weekends often book within hours. Georgia State Parks like Mistletoe and Magnolia Springs use ReserveAmerica and accept reservations up to 13 months out. Private parks (Wildwood, Pointes West Army Resort for eligible guests) can usually be grabbed 1 to 3 months ahead. For Masters Tournament week in early April, RV sites in the area book a full year in advance. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for exactly 6 months before your target Saturday at Clarks Hill, log in at 10 AM Eastern, and you'll snag the lakefront site.
recreation.gov/What are driving conditions like around Martinez, GA?
You'll find Martinez very RV-friendly to drive. The main arteries (Interstate 20, Bobby Jones Expressway/I-520, Washington Road, and Furys Ferry Road) are wide, flat, and well-maintained, with no tight mountain passes or low bridges to worry about. Watch the I-520 and Riverwatch Parkway interchanges during morning and afternoon rush hours, and avoid Washington Road entirely during Masters week unless you enjoy traffic jams. Summer afternoons bring quick, heavy thunderstorms, slow down and pull off if visibility drops. Bridges crossing the Savannah River into South Carolina can be windy, take it easy with tall rigs. Pro tip: most local RVers use the Bobby Jones (I-520) loop to bypass Augusta's downtown core entirely, it's the smoothest route to Clarks Hill Lake or I-20 east.
511ga.org/What hookups and amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Martinez?
You'll find excellent facilities at campgrounds near Martinez. Corps of Engineers parks on Clarks Hill Lake (Petersburg, Ridge Road, Winfield) typically offer 30/50-amp electric and water at each site, with central dump stations, hot showers, and boat ramps. Georgia State Parks like Mistletoe provide full hookups (water, electric, sewer) at many sites plus laundry and Wi-Fi at the camp store. Private parks like Wildwood Park add cable and stronger Wi-Fi. Free dump stations are available at most state and Corps parks; the closest fresh-water fill is usually right at your site. Pro tip: if you're boondocking on the way in, the Pilot Travel Center at I-20 Exit 194 has dump and freshwater services, very handy on your drive back to drop off your Martinez RV rental.
gastateparks.org/CampingWhat features and amenities come with a Martinez RV rental?
Most motorhome rental Martinez listings come fully equipped so you can roll in and relax. Expect comfortable beds (queens are standard, many sleep 4 to 8), a functional kitchen with stove, fridge, microwave, sink, and cookware, an indoor bathroom with shower and toilet, roof-mounted air conditioning (essential for Georgia summers), propane furnace, and seatbelts for everyone riding. Many listings also include a flat-screen TV, Bluetooth speakers, an onboard generator, outdoor awning, and camp chairs. Wi-Fi varies by host, some include a hotspot, others recommend bringing your own. The listing page shows exactly what's included and what isn't. Pro tip: message the host to ask about linens, kitchen kits, and outdoor gear, many include them free while others offer them as inexpensive add-ons.
energy.gov/energysaver/rv-energy-efficiencyWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about for my Martinez RV rental?
You've got plenty of flexibility. Popular add-ons from Martinez hosts include linen and towel packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits ($25 to $50), outdoor chairs and tables, bike racks, portable grills, generators, and pet-cleaning fees for pet-friendly RV rental Martinez bookings. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Martinez, Evans, or Grovetown, and dropoff is at the same location at the agreed time; late returns may incur a fee. Many hosts also offer delivery and pickup directly to Clarks Hill Lake, Mistletoe State Park, or even your home driveway for a flat fee. Mileage policies vary, look for the daily allowance or unlimited-mileage tag on the listing. Pro tip: bundle delivery plus linens and a kitchen kit for a true turnkey trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Martinez,GeorgiaHow does payment and the security deposit work for an RV rental in Martinez, GA?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card at booking, never directly to the host in cash. A refundable security deposit is held separately from the booking payment (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig) and released after your trip once the host confirms the RV came back in good shape, fueled, and with tanks dumped per the listing. Choosing a higher-tier protection plan during checkout can reduce your out-of-pocket exposure if something accidental happens. To avoid deposit hiccups: take date-stamped photos at pickup and dropoff, refill propane and fuel as specified, and dump the tanks before returning. Pro tip: a quick wash on your way back to Martinez goes a long way with hosts.
