Campgrounds near Mountain Park, Georgia
Mountain Park is a small residential CDP straddling northern DeKalb and Fulton counties inside metro Atlanta, roughly a fifteen-minute drive from Stone Mountain Park. For RV travelers, the area works best as a base for exploring the eastern Atlanta suburbs, Stone Mountain, and the surrounding lake country, with quick highway access to downtown Atlanta and the airport.
Most overnight capacity sits at Stone Mountain Park Family Campground, a large property with more than 400 wooded sites offering full hookups, partial water-and-electric hookups, primitive tent spots, yurts, and safari tent rentals. Nearby private options such as Stone Mountain Heights RV-Mobile Home Park and Jones RV Park serve travelers who want longer stays or simpler pull-through parking, while day-use destinations like Brooks Lake and Stone Mountain Campground round out the local recreation mix.
Because the region draws heavy weekend traffic from Atlanta, sites near the water and full-hookup pads book earliest. Travelers arriving midweek generally have more flexibility on site selection and loop assignment.
Things to do near Mountain Park
Stone Mountain Park is the anchor attraction. Visitors can hike the walk-up trail to the summit, ride the Summit Skyride cable car, board the scenic railroad around the mountain, and attend the seasonal laser show at the base of the carving. The park also hosts family events including the Yellow Daisy Festival, the Pumpkin Festival, and the winter Stone Mountain Christmas program.
On the water, Stone Mountain Lake offers non-motorized boating and shoreline fishing, though swimming is not permitted in the lake. Regional add-ons include Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area for hiking and cycling on granite outcrops, the Atlanta BeltLine trails, the Georgia Aquarium, and Zoo Atlanta, all within a short drive from Mountain Park.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in the Atlanta area. From late March through May, daytime highs climb from the 60s into the 70s and low 80s Fahrenheit while dogwoods and azaleas bloom around the park. September and October generally bring drier, cooler weather and heavy weekend demand tied to the Pumpkin Festival at Stone Mountain and to college football traffic.
Summer is hot and humid, with highs commonly near 90 Fahrenheit and frequent afternoon thunderstorms from June through August. Full-hookup sites with 50-amp service and shade are the most comfortable choice in this window, and reservations should be locked in well ahead of holiday weekends.
Winters are short and mild by RV standards, with occasional overnight freezes and rare snow or ice events. December through February are among the wetter months in the metro area, and some seasonal park programming and rental units may operate on reduced schedules. Freshwater hose management and cold-weather insulation matter on the coldest nights.

How to book campgrounds near Mountain Park
Stone Mountain Park Family Campground accepts reservations online through its own website at stonemountainpark.com and by phone through the campground office. A daily per-vehicle parking permit is required for entry to the park and is typically handled at the gate or at campground check-in.
Private parks such as Stone Mountain Heights RV-Mobile Home Park, Jones RV Park, and Stone Mountain Campground generally take direct phone or online reservations and tend to be more flexible on short stays and monthly arrangements. For peak spring and fall weekends, booking several weeks in advance is typical for waterfront and full-hookup sites, while midweek stays can often be secured much closer to arrival.
What to expect on arrival
Access to Stone Mountain Park is via Highway 78, and the campground sits off Stonewall Jackson Drive on the north side of the park. Rigs stop at the gate for the parking permit before proceeding to campground registration, and standard check-in runs from mid-afternoon into the evening.
Sites vary considerably in width, levelness, and shade. The campground is heavily wooded with mature trees and some tight interior roads, so drivers of longer Class A and fifth-wheel rigs should confirm site dimensions when booking. Cell coverage is generally reliable across the major carriers, though on-site Wi-Fi can be inconsistent.
Expect a family-oriented atmosphere with a seasonal swimming pool, playground, laundry, and a supply store on site. Alcohol policies, quiet hours, and pet rules are posted at registration and enforced by campground staff.
