North High Shoals is a small town in Oconee County, Georgia, located in the Piedmont region between Athens and Atlanta and just south of Watkinsville. The Apalachee River shoals that give the town its name mark a landscape of rolling hardwood forest, small lakes, and creeks that shape most of the nearby camping options. Hard Labor Creek State Park sits about a half hour south near Rutledge and covers a wide expanse of Piedmont woodland with two lakes, a golf course, and extensive equestrian facilities. Fort Yargo State Park lies to the northwest near Winder and surrounds a 260-acre lake with a swim beach and wooded trail network. Closer to town, Pine Lake RV Campground offers a smaller private-park setting, while Country Boys RV Park provides another private option in the surrounding area. Together the mix of state-park and private campgrounds covers electric and water pads, tent-friendly loops, and dedicated equestrian sites at the Equestrian - Hard Labor Creek State Park area.

Hard Labor Creek State Park and Fort Yargo State Park are both part of the Georgia State Parks system and use the same reservation platform. Bookings can be secured online or by phone up to 13 months in advance and are strongly recommended. A Georgia ParkPass is required for each vehicle and is not bundled with a campsite reservation. Weekend and holiday sites fill fastest. Reservations are accepted and recommended for weekends and summer stays, when campgrounds fill quickly, while weekday visits in shoulder seasons tend to have more availability. For horse trailers, the equestrian loop at Hard Labor Creek books separately from the standard campground and should be reserved as early as possible for spring and fall weekends. Pine Lake RV Campground and Country Boys RV Park are private and book directly with the campground. Confirm rig length limits, hookup type, and check-in times when reserving.
