RV camping near Ocilla, Georgia
Ocilla sits in Irwin County in south-central Georgia, in a rural stretch of the state's coastal plain roughly between I-75 to the west and I-16 to the northeast. The town is the seat of Irwin County and part of the Fitzgerald micropolitan area, with a population of a little over three thousand. For RV travelers, it works as a quiet base for exploring farm country, small-town festivals, and the wiregrass region of southern Georgia.
Campground options in the immediate area are limited but practical. The Trolley Stop RV Park sits closest to town, while Georgia Peanut RV Park and Dreamland Parks/Dreamland RV Park serve travelers passing through on regional highways. Tifton KOA Journey, about half an hour west near I-75, offers a full-service option for rigs of any size. Golfers can pair a round with a hookup at Wanee Lake Golf Course and RV Park.
Many visitors combine an Ocilla stay with a day trip to General Coffee State Park near Nicholls, the nearest Georgia state park with a developed campground and Heritage Farm.
Things to do around Ocilla
The biggest local draw is nearby Fitzgerald, about fifteen minutes south, where flocks of wild Burmese chickens roam the historic downtown. The town celebrates the birds with the annual Wild Chicken Festival on the third weekend of March, and a large steel chicken topiary frame stands downtown as a work in progress toward what organizers hope will be the world's tallest topiary.
General Coffee State Park near Nicholls preserves 1,511 acres along the Seventeen-Mile River. Its Heritage Farm features 19th-century log cabins, a corn crib, tobacco barn, and cane mill, plus farm animals that typically include goats, sheep, chickens, pigs, and donkeys. A boardwalk crosses a cypress swamp where pitcher plants, indigo snakes, and gopher tortoises live, and 13.4 miles of equestrian trails wind through the park.
Other day trips include the Jefferson Davis Memorial Historic Site in Irwinville and the Georgia Sweet Potato Festival, an Ocilla tradition centered on the town's farming heritage.

Afternoon thunderstorms are frequent from June through August, so plan outdoor activities for morning hours and expect brief but heavy downpours.
Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV travel. March through May brings mild days, blooming wiregrass and pine flatwoods, and the Wild Chicken Festival on the third weekend of March. September through November typically delivers the driest, coolest weather of the year, with November often the driest month.
Winter is short and generally mild, with January highs around 60°F and lows in the upper 30s. Freezes occur but hard freezes are uncommon, and measurable snowfall is rare. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, and remnants of tropical systems occasionally bring heavy rain to Irwin County.

Holiday weekends and spring break dates should be secured months ahead.
What to expect on the ground
Ocilla is small and rural. Expect flat terrain, pine and pecan farms, and quiet county roads rather than dense tourism infrastructure. Cell coverage is generally reliable in town but can thin out on back roads and inside state park loops.
Private RV parks in the area lean toward practical, no-frills hookups suited to overnight and short-stay travelers. General Coffee State Park has 50 tent, trailer, and RV sites with water and electric hookups, picnic tables, fire pits, and a comfort station with hot showers and laundry. Many sites are pull-through and can accommodate larger rigs, though a few in Loop 1 are more primitive and can be uneven.
Grocery and fuel stops are easiest in Ocilla, Fitzgerald, or Tifton. Bring insect repellent from spring through fall, and watch for gopher tortoises and indigo snakes if hiking in the wiregrass ecosystem.
