Campgrounds near Palmetto
Palmetto sits in south Fulton County, Georgia, roughly 25 miles southwest of downtown Atlanta and within an easy drive of the Chattahoochee River corridor. The town works well as an RV base for travelers who want quick access to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the southern metro attractions, and rural west Georgia at the same time.
Campground options in the surrounding area range from a large state park on the Chattahoochee to private RV parks and event camping at a major motorsports venue. Chattahoochee Bend State Park covers about 2,910 acres with roughly five miles of river frontage in Coweta County, and Banning Mills RV Park operates in Snake Creek Gorge near Whitesburg.
Closer to the interstate ring, Sweetwater Creek RV Reserve in Austell and Atlanta-Marietta RV Resort provide full-hookup private-park stays, while Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton adds event-driven camping tied to the NASCAR calendar. Between these options, RV travelers can pick a wooded state-park loop, a residential-style private park, or a raceway infield depending on the trip.
Things to do near Palmetto
The Chattahoochee River is the main draw west of town. Chattahoochee Bend State Park is a haven for paddlers, campers and anglers, protects five miles of river frontage, and offers a boat ramp along with the 5.5-mile Riverside Trail. Paddlers should bring kayaks or canoes, as the park does not provide shuttle service.
Adventure travelers can head to Banning Mills RV Park for a zipline canopy tour, a free-fall tower, and hiking through mill ruins in Snake Creek Gorge. On-site activities include a long zipline canopy course, a free-fall tower, horseback riding, kayak tours, and aerial challenge courses.
For city days, Sweetwater Creek RV Reserve and Atlanta-Marietta RV Resort put guests within easy reach of downtown Atlanta attractions, and Atlanta Motor Speedway anchors NASCAR weekends in nearby Hampton.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel in this part of Georgia. Daytime highs are mild, humidity drops well below midsummer levels, and state-park loops book heavily on weekends. Spring also lines up with the NASCAR Cup Series weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway, which pulls thousands of RVs into Hampton and tightens site availability across the southern metro for several days.
Summer brings hot, humid conditions with frequent afternoon thunderstorms. The average July high in Atlanta is about 90 degrees Fahrenheit, and shaded sites at Chattahoochee Bend State Park go first. Families often plan around river paddling and early-morning hikes to beat the heat.
Winter is short and generally mild, with occasional freezes rather than sustained cold. Freezing temperatures happen during about 36 nights a year on average from November to March, and roughly once a year the temperature does not climb above freezing all day. Most private RV parks in the area stay open year-round, and reservations are easier to secure outside race weekends and peak spring weekends.

How to book campgrounds near Palmetto
Georgia state park sites, including those at Chattahoochee Bend State Park, are managed by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and can be booked through the state's reservation system operated by ReserveAmerica. Popular loops fill months out for spring and fall weekends, so book early or set a cancellation alert.
Private parks such as Sweetwater Creek RV Reserve, Atlanta-Marietta RV Resort, and Banning Mills RV Park take reservations directly through their own sites or booking platforms like Campspot. Sweetwater Creek RV Reserve caters more toward long-term stays, so short-stay travelers should confirm availability before travel.
For Atlanta Motor Speedway, book race-weekend camping through the speedway ticket office well in advance; non-race dates are typically easier to secure.
What to expect on-site
Expect a mix of wooded state-park sites and paved private-park pads. Chattahoochee Bend accommodates RVs up to 55 feet with full hookups, plus walk-in tent sites and platform camping options scattered across forested terrain, and sites are surfaced in crushed slate and the terrain requires some leveling.
Private parks lean utilitarian rather than resort-style. Sweetwater Creek RV Reserve features 96 level sites with full hookups, including 50-amp and 30-amp electrical service, water, and sewage connections. Atlanta Motor Speedway offers full hookups with 30-amp and 50-amp service, shower and restroom facilities, and pull-through sites for larger rigs.
Cell service is generally solid near the interstates and thinner inside the state park. Bring bug spray in warmer months and expect red-clay dust after dry stretches.

Popular delivery spots include Chattahoochee Bend State Park, Stone Mountain Park Campground, and Atlanta South RV Resort just off I-75. To find delivery-ready listings, use the Delivery filter on RVezy and check each host's delivery radius and per-mile fee. weather.gov/ffc/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay?
You will be in great shape, even if it's your first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup, covering how to operate the slide-outs, hookups, water system, generator, and dump valves, plus how to handle the rig on the road. You can message your host with questions before booking and during your trip, and 24/7 RVezy support is always one tap away. Palmetto is an ideal launchpad for first-timers: I-85 south of the city is wide and straight, and quieter back routes lead to Chattahoochee Bend or FDR State Park without dealing with downtown Atlanta. Pro tip: choose a smaller Class C or travel trailer for your first trip, they are easier to drive and park.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002007693-For-rentersWhat happens if I break down during my Palmetto RV trip?
Don't worry: 24/7 roadside assistance is included with every RVezy booking, so help is just a phone call away whether you are on I-85, deep in the Chattahoochee Hills, or pulled over near Serenbe. The service covers flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing to the nearest qualified repair shop. Your host is also a quick message away for RV-specific questions like how to reset the inverter or restart the fridge. The Atlanta metro region has many RV-friendly service centers, including Camping World in Forest Park, so parts and repairs are rarely far off. Pro tip: save the RVezy support number to your phone before pickup so it's ready if you ever need it.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityCan I take my Palmetto RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, multi-state RV road trips from Palmetto are allowed and encouraged. Palmetto sits at a great crossroads: you can be in Alabama in under an hour, the Tennessee mountains in about 2.5 hours, and the South Carolina coast in about 5 hours. Some hosts also permit travel into Canada with advance notice so coverage can be confirmed for cross-border use. One firm rule across the platform: travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because coverage does not extend there. Message the host before booking to confirm your route, especially for longer trips like a Florida Keys run or a Smoky Mountains loop. Pro tip: the Blue Ridge Parkway is about 3.5 hours away and a bucket-list drive every fall.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Palmetto RV trip?
Georgia typically has some of the lower gas prices in the country, which helps keep fuel costs reasonable on any RV rental in Palmetto, GA. Expect a Class C motorhome to deliver 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG) on gas, a travel trailer to drop your tow vehicle to roughly 10 to 14 MPG, and a Class B campervan to do a respectable 16 to 20 MPG. With Georgia gas often near the national average, a 300-mile weekend in a Class C costs roughly $100 to $140 in fuel depending on current prices. Diesel rigs cost a bit more per gallon but get better mileage. Pro tip: use the GasBuddy app and fill up at warehouse club or major highway stations along I-85 for the best per-gallon prices before leaving town.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Palmetto?
For the most popular Georgia State Park campgrounds near Palmetto, book as soon as your dates are firm. Georgia State Parks open reservations 13 months in advance through ReserveAmerica, and prime weekends at Chattahoochee Bend, Sweetwater Creek, and FDR State Park can fill within hours for spring and fall. Private parks like Atlanta South RV Resort and The Pines Campground typically take reservations 6 to 12 months out and usually have more last-minute availability. For weeknight stays you can often book 1 to 2 weeks ahead with no problem. Pro tip: if a state park is full, set up a notification on ReserveAmerica — cancellations happen constantly and a Friday night spot at Chattahoochee Bend often pops back up within days.
gastateparks.org/ReservationsWhat are the driving conditions like around Palmetto, GA?
Palmetto is one of the easier places in metro Atlanta to launch an RV trip because the worst city traffic is north of you, not on top of you. I-85 south and Highway 29 give you smooth, wide lanes heading toward Newnan, LaGrange, and Alabama, while Highway 154 winds through the rolling Chattahoochee Hills. Avoid driving north on I-85 toward downtown Atlanta during rush hour (7 to 9 AM and 4 to 7 PM weekdays). Watch for the Georgia 400 toll lanes and the I-285 perimeter, which has some lower overpasses, most are at least 13'6". Pro tip: plan your big-mile days for mid-morning or early afternoon to dodge metro Atlanta congestion entirely.
dot.ga.gov/DriveSmart/TravelWhat amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Palmetto?
Campgrounds near Palmetto run the full range, so you can pick exactly the experience you want. Private parks like Atlanta South RV Resort offer 30/50-amp full hookups (water, electric, sewer), Wi-Fi, pools, laundry, and dump stations at most sites. Georgia State Parks like Chattahoochee Bend and FDR offer water and 30/50-amp electric with central dump stations and clean bathhouses, but Wi-Fi can be spotty under the pine canopy. Fresh water fills are standard at all of them. Pro tip: if you need to dump on the way home, many travel plazas and KOAs along I-85 offer dump stations to non-guests for a small fee, usually $10 to $20.
gastateparks.org/RVCampingWhat's inside the RVs I can rent in Palmetto?
RVezy listings in Palmetto come fully equipped so you can roll in and start vacationing. Expect a queen or king bed, bunks or convertible dinette for kids, a full kitchen with fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, and sink, plus a bathroom with toilet and shower in most Class B, Class C, Class A, and travel trailer models. Air conditioning, a furnace, and a propane or generator setup are standard for Georgia's hot summers and cool winters. Many listings also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and seatbelted seating for travel. Wi-Fi and bike racks are common add-ons. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count on RVezy so you only see rigs that fit your group, then check the photos for floorplan details before messaging the host.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Palmetto,%20GeorgiaWhat add-ons and extras can I get with my Palmetto RV rental?
Hosts in Palmetto love to make trips turnkey, so most listings offer a menu of add-ons you can select at booking. Common ones include linens and towel packages ($30 to $75), camp chairs and outdoor rugs, propane top-offs, generators, bike racks, and pet packages. Delivery and setup is the most popular add-on for first-time renters, with fees typically based on distance from the host's location. Pickup is usually between 1 and 4 PM with drop-off by 11 AM, though many hosts will flex for an early flight or a Friday-after-work start. Standard mileage allowances run 100 to 150 miles per day, with overages around $0.35 to $0.50 per mile. Pro tip: bundle linens, camp chairs, and delivery up front to lock in a true zero-effort RV trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Palmetto,%20GeorgiaHow do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment on RVezy is straightforward and handled securely through the platform, no cash and no third-party apps. You pay your trip total (rental, fees, and any add-ons) by credit or debit card when you book, with no surprise charges later. A refundable security deposit is held separately from the booking payment before pickup and released after drop-off, assuming the RV is returned in the same condition it left. Deposit amounts vary by RV and are clearly shown on the listing before you confirm. Pro tip: do a quick walkaround video with the host at both pickup and drop-off, it protects everyone and makes deposit returns smooth and fast on every RV rental Georgia trip.
