Campgrounds near Pearson, Georgia
Pearson sits in Atkinson County in south-central Georgia, within the state's Wiregrass region. The town lies between Douglas and Waycross, giving RV travelers access to Georgia's coastal plain, the Okefenokee Swamp to the southeast, and the Seventeen-Mile River corridor to the north. The surrounding landscape is flat to gently rolling, with longleaf pine, cypress swamp draped in Spanish moss, and wiregrass lining small farm roads that suit larger rigs.
Campground options within a short drive include Dreamland Parks/Dreamland RV Park and the Equestrian - General Coffee State Park campground near Nicholls. Pebble Hill RV Resort, The Trolley Stop RV Park, and Cain's Creekside RV Park round out the private-park choices, offering full-hookup sites geared toward travelers, snowbirds, and equestrian visitors.
Most sites in the area are pull-through or long back-in, and roads leading into the region are two-lane state highways rather than interstates. Drivers should plan fuel and grocery stops in Douglas or Waycross, since Pearson itself has limited services for larger RVs.
Things to do near Pearson
At General Coffee State Park, the Seventeen-Mile River and a boardwalk wind through cypress swamp where rare and endangered plants grow, and pitcher plants, indigo snakes, and gopher tortoises make their homes in this wiregrass community. The park has 13.4 miles of equestrian trails, and horse owners can stay at the park's equestrian campground with their animals.
Heritage Farm inside the park displays log cabins, a corn crib, tobacco barn, cane mill and other exhibits, and children enjoy feeding the park's farm animals, which usually include goats, sheep, chickens, pigs and donkeys. Fishing and paddling on the park's four-acre lake are family-friendly and low-key.
Farther afield, day trips reach the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge for boat tours and alligator viewing, Laura S. Walker State Park for lake swimming and golf, and downtown Douglas for restaurants and groceries.

South Georgia has a humid subtropical climate. The most pleasant time to visit is from March to May and October to November, when temperatures sit in a comfortable range and humidity eases. Spring wildflowers and mild nights make this a peak season for RV travel, and state park sites often book out on weekends.
Summer is long, hot, and humid. July is the warmest month, with an average high near 89°F, and July and August have the highest average lows, around 73°F. Afternoon thunderstorms are common, and biting insects are active near swampy areas. Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, with peak activity in August and September.
Fall cools gradually through October and November, and winters are short and mild. January is the coldest month, with an average high near 58°F and an average low near 41°F, making Pearson a workable winter stop for snowbirds heading south on I-75 or US-1.
How to book a campsite near Pearson
General Coffee State Park is operated by Georgia State Parks. For reservation inquiries call 1-800-864-7275, and sites are also bookable online through the Georgia State Parks reservation system. A ParkPass is required for all vehicles, and the price for ParkPasses is not included with the reservation.
Equestrian sites at General Coffee are limited to 4 equestrian campsites and are popular with horse owners, so book several weeks ahead for weekends in spring and fall. Private parks such as Dreamland Parks/Dreamland RV Park, Pebble Hill RV Resort, The Trolley Stop RV Park, and Cain's Creekside RV Park take reservations directly by phone or through their websites, and monthly rates are common for snowbird stays.
Check-in at the state park is during regular office hours, and after-hours instructions can be obtained by calling the park during business hours.
What to expect on the ground
General Coffee State Park has 50 tent, trailer, RV campsites with water, electric, picnic table, fire pit at each campsite with a nearby comfort station offering indoor plumbing and hot showers. The campground features two loops: Campground #1 with dirt roads and sites, and Campground #2 with paved roads, with both pull-through and back-in sites, and a dump station is located near the campground.
Campground #2 is generally recommended for larger RVs since it is newer and more level, though many pull-through sites have a C-shape driveway that can be a tight curve. Cell service is spotty in the rural areas around Pearson, and grocery runs generally mean driving into Douglas or Waycross.
The road leading to the campground is a bit curvy, so drivers of larger rigs should take it slow. Expect Spanish moss, sandy soils, and mosquitoes near the swamp, especially at dawn and dusk from spring through fall.

For the best Pearson RV camping experience, book your campsite as early as possible. Georgia State Parks open reservations up to 13 months in advance through their online reservation system at gastateparks.org. Laura S. Walker, General Coffee, and Stephen C. Private RV parks around Waycross usually accept reservations 3 to 6 months ahead and have more last-minute flexibility. US-82 (east to Waycross, west to Tifton) and US-441 (north to Douglas, south to Fargo) are two-lane and four-lane highways with wide shoulders, gentle terrain, and almost no hills. Watch for occasional logging trucks, deer at dawn and dusk, and sudden afternoon thunderstorms in summer that can drop visibility fast. There are no low bridges or weight restrictions on the main routes. Pro tip: avoid driving the unpaved forest roads off GA-187 and GA-135 in a big rig after heavy rain, the sandy soil can get soft quickly.
